@shericrazyladyI eat to fart too... I think my biggest hurdle right now is learning this slow down thing. I used to always be first one done at the table, and now I'm just hurting trying my best to keep pace. Not good. The mental is far greater struggle than anything physical for me...

I agree with the change habits idea in theory. For myself, I know sugar and spice don't matter. I ate a couple 5cent candies last night. Wasn't an issue at 5 weeks postop. What you asked was "Can you"... the answer is up to your stomach... "Should you" thats something we all need to find our own answers to...

Probably not mentally healthy for any thing more than just fun. But! As a big dude looking to get skinny. Any others want to have a friendly compitition on weight loss. I was sleeved July 10th. We can do monthly check ins. Encourage each other though friendly rivalry. Keep the bad stuff out of our mouths and keep us excersjsing... Maybe I'm just geared up for fantasy football starting up soon that now this too has to have some competition elements. No? Just me? Ok...

Everyone is different. Every doctor will tell you different stuff. My Dr. said I need to stay away from carbonation for the first 6 months to help my stomach heal. But I can drink brown liquor after 3-4 weeks with no issue. I, in fact had a whiskey and half a glass of wine 2 nights ago at a wedding. I'm almost 4 weeks out and it went great. No issue. People also talks about how you become a light weight.. well, that isn't my case. I was fine. Now, I'm not a heavy drinker, but consult your DR. and NUT.

July loss competitive spirit
Mersh replied to Mersh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@gwbicster it's less about the actual results and more about mutual support and pushing others to keep taking the right steps. Obviously people will lose at their own pace. But there is also factors we must play ourselves to ensure success... eating right, excersise etc. So I know for me having people I can "compete" with would help me do that to an even greater level. I think for most of us we all have fairly similar bad habits we need to break and then build healthy ones and this will help and encourage us with that. -
So I'm in the middle of week 4 post op and I seem to have hit a stall for the past 4-5 days. My weight bounces around the same 2-3lbs which is a solid BM and some water weight by my guessing. I'm not too worried as I keep reading stalls are part of this. I moved into purée and since then my loss has drastically slowed to this stall. Not sure if I should blame it on that or not. But has anyone experience this this early?

@PatientEleventyBillion You post on here as if people care about your opinion. You are irrelevant on a thread like this. Yes, we are to do our do diligence, but we also rely on God for wisdom, discernment and for His hand to provide. If you don't agree, move on. Now go outside and find a hug cause it sounds like you need one kid.

My closest friend is my gut. We've been together longer than anyone I know. So loosing him will be hard. But I'm glad he'll go away. As for people. People suck, even at the best of times. Words will come out and they will fall hard. I'm learning that offence is only mine to take hold of if I choose to. I'm way stronger and way more confident in who I am and who I am becoming to allow misguided words or even pointed on purpose words effect me. Its a hard process to walk through to come to this point, but trust me. You are way more valuable than you realize and you deserve to be treated as such. And don't feel bad calling out some of that bullshit as well. Simply ask people, what changed to make they say something like that, because those words aren't comfortable. Usually its jealously and ego. As for your husband, he likely wants to celebrate with you and show you off a bit... Enjoy that attention.

I am the same way and I'm 4 weeks out. At 2 weeks I even started pushing my intake to see if there was indeed a limit.. I can confirm to you all... There is... Its science. I'm on puree now and its awesome. Even though weirdly enough I tried a scrambled egg the other day and had a bite and wanted to puke.... which is weird because 2 days prior I had eggs and was golden... The body has a mind of its own. Good luck

Starting puree/soft food stage. STOKED!
Mersh posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I'm starting week 3 post op tomorrow. But I'm heading up to the lake for a few days. So I did some meal prep here. First off. I'm so done with chicken broth, cream soup with all the good stuff missing, popsicles and jello.... I've eaten so much jello... ugh... But I just quickly made up that Ricotta cheese bake and what I call my Ground Turkey Burrito Casserole. And HOLY. Real food tastes so damn good. I'm a day early but snuck a bite from each and I thanks God for a solid 5 minutes as I just let it sit in my mouth. I know 2 oz. is only like 5 bites, but I'm going to milk the **** out of those 5 bites. The hard part is over. Loosing Weight and Feeling Great! M -
Gain that weight in muscle mass. Gives you that attainable goal and keeps you working.

So I'm on day 11 of my VSG post op and I feel like I can eat anything. But I know I shouldn't. I also feel like I can do almost anything I did pre-op. But I know I shouldn't. About me. I'm 33, male. Muscular but crazy overweight. I'm stubborn as a mule and am a farm boy. Since my Max Capacity weight during pre-op I'm already down 45lbs. Which is awesome, but I have a long way to go before I'll start celebrating too much. I am so bored of my liquid diet that today I've even had a scrambled egg and a piece of deli turkey. No issue. I've also started eating apple sauce. No issue. I'm crushing protein shakes no problem and hitting of my liquid goals daily most of the time. I'm scared I'm being an idiot and not allowing my stomach to heal, but I can't stare at another mug of chicken broth and I'm jello'd out from crushing insane amounts of that stuff. My fear is that I'm rushing back into things. I took my dog out for a hour long walk in the hills and felt great. And I haven't had any pain what so ever since I got home from the hospital... my stab wounds (incisions) are healing up nicely even though I scratched one pretty good the other day... Help with any advice and encouragement. Also, is there any guys on these forums? Thanks. Mersh

Starting puree/soft food stage. STOKED!
Mersh replied to Mersh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think I'm going to make some Protein Peanut Butter Cookies tomorrow. Not sure if they fit in my "soft food" category or not. But I'm craving something sweet that isn't jello... Apparently this one recipe I found the stats per cookie is. 151 calories10g fat, 8g carbohydrate, 10g protein... Which is pretty slick. -
What was the biggest surprise for you at or after surgery? What do you wish you had known?
Mersh replied to sunmeadow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@nomorefattypatty Love how you generalized and marginalized an entire people group with some pretty un-empathetic ignorance towards peoples individual journey's. Oh and by "love", I mean, you are ridiculous and need to get your head out of your backside. I am one who has a high pain threshold and had zero issues with my surgery. I'm almost 4 weeks post op and doing great. But so many have other health issues that I am blessed not to have. But I cannot make such asinine assumptions about peoples lives and struggles. Not sure where you get off with a post like yours above... -
So my wife who is a RN just pointed out that I probably have thrush. Which is a yeast imbalance in my mouth. Likely from antibiotics. My tongue has this white film on it and my teeth feel fuzzy regardless how much I brush and use mouth wash. Anyone else experience this?
-
I went to the DR and he said mine was likely nothing but gave me meds just in case.. So 1 week of swishing some other gross thing and I'll be good to go again.
-
@JupiterSky @Emailkariann I'm glad we can relate to each other. Good luck on your journey's.
-
@OutsideMatchInside Thank you for ensuring I'm not a crazy person. Even though I feel for those having rough go's at it. The only issues I have is when I eat too fast these days and get that gross feeling after a meal. But thats totally on me not learning fast enough... It will come.

Mersh replied to sunmeadow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@Apple1 the first time I showered I had my bandages on and was pull them off as they got saturated. The drain was full of water and blood and it pour out onto my feet... was kind of cool in a gory sort of way. -

For me. Mexico is only scary in theory. But was a breeze. The Drain in the shower makes you feel like you are in a horror movie. Blood everywhere. barium swallow is awful but watching it on a monitor was worth it knowing surgery was successful. very little pain. Off meds by day 3. Flying sucks 4 days post op. how normal you feel until you put something in your mouth and quickly get that "full" feeling. liquid diet is the worst and graduating to soft food is the most rewarding feeling ever. The psychological struggle of keeping pace subconsciously with others you eat with. So many stomach aches because I ate too quick. Take smaller bites and fork down for a min or two kids. The head cravings suck and don't go away easily. need to break those habits. How quick I'm dropping lbs is awesome. 3.5 weeks postop and down 52lbs. Gaining confidence in the weight loss is a weird feeling. Especially when I haven't done much except eat less. Those are some of the things I'm finding. -
Please help...soft foods phase
Mersh replied to shazwott13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started the puree/soft food stage this week too. I might be a rebel, but I will have the odd sip with a meal just to keep things flowing. But yes, 30 min before and after... I think the hardest part was eating with the family and the psycological game of trying not to keep up to the "normal" pace, but realizing my new "normal"... -
Starting puree/soft food stage. STOKED!

@bl1988 it's classified in the phase 3 of the diet. Puree/soft food phase. Only thing really chewy is the ground turkey in the burrito/Mexican casserole. -
