Most absurd thing people said to you when you told them you were having WLS?
nessavsg replied to mytime4me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was just reading your post again (now that I'm fully awake lol) and what your benefits manager said to you was basically illegal. I worked in HR for quite a few years and you DO NOT even have to tell them what you are having surgery for and they HAVE to give you the time off as requested. That person should not be in that position and you should DEFINITELY file a complaint with that persons supervisor. Anyways, I hope your surgery went well today!! My thoughts are with you today!! For all of these reasons, my husband and I have not told anyone about getting sleeved! I am 3 weeks post op and he is 2 weeks pre-op right now. This is a secret we are keeping between the two of us. We don't need the negativity, as you all have said, this decision is hard enough! I almost backed out of the surgery after I was admitted to the hospital on surgery day. I went through with it and I'm feeling pretty good about my decision so far. My fear came from having my gallbladder removed exactly 1 month prior to getting sleeved, but it has helped me keep the secret, by blaming my small portions or lack of eating on the lack of gallbladder to aid in digestion! Ha ha! People are so rude and ignorant and they think they know what is best for you. Only you know what is best for you! -
I'm 6 days post-op and I've had hunger pangs or 'flavor pangs' since day 3! I'm getting in about 50-60 oz of water without a problem and I'm able to take in about 4-5oz at each meal. I'm sticking to skim milk with added milk powder or unflavored hot cereal with unflavored protein for breakfast, 1/2c vegetable juice for a snack, cream soup for lunch, sugar free jello for snack and broth or kefir for dinner. Sugar free popsicles have been my lifesaver this last week. I want all of my drinks super cold and I could chew on ice chips all day long! My first post-op appointment is tomorrow so I'm going to bring up a few of my issues with him, in hopes that I can stay on track for the long haul!

I had my surgery on July 10th as well! I had thoughts of backing out the night before and also the morning of the surgery! Obviously that didn't happen. Ha Ha. But I was prepared for what was to be expected after having emergency abdominal laparoscopic surgery only 4 weeks prior for my gallbladder - just not the smaller stomach. QUESTION: Did anyone do a 'carb-loading' prep the night before surgery?

You should be able to shower as soon as you return home. Just try to shower mostly with your back to the shower so that your steri-strips are 'pushed' off your body by the shower water. As stated above, they will fall off on their own. I am 1 week post op and I still have 5 out of 6 of my steri-strips! Just try to avoid scrubbing the incision sites and let the soapy water run over the front of your body. Hope this helps!
