How much did/could you "eati during whole liquids phase?
shazwott13 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am whole liquids phase since yesterday, and have found myself able to eat 3 oz of cottage cheese at a time. My Dr. told me at discharge that my pouch was approximately 3 oz, so I guess this makes sense. However, I was told before the surgery that it is usually only 2 oz and my diet instructions indicate eating 2 oz of cottage cheese at a time and I started out with that but don't feel satiated without the extra ounce. Is it because this is still the liquids phase or am I overeating, or is this really the size of my pouch? -

There are 2 liquid stages in my diet, clear liquid and full liquid, I am in the full liquid stage and can have pureed foods with no lumps. The one exception is that I am allowed to eat cottage cheese without pureeing it first -

You guys have some really great responses! Thank you sooooo much! -
Ive been having these too, especially when I am laying down. they really feel like hunger pains, but the spasming sound about right. I am 8 days post op and they have been getting less and less. I have found that keeping a heating pad on my tummy helps a lot. I have not been concerned about it except that I worry that I will continue to be hungry all the time and gain weight

My own recipe, week 2 whole liquids (also works for soft foods)
shazwott13 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
During my clear liquids phase, I so craved savory foods, especially a ricotta bake recipe I found online. The ricotta bake was for soft food phase, but I figured out a great alternative for my full liquid phase! 1 oz of tomato bisque soup ( try deli dept of King Soopers or Kroger) 1 oz cottage cheese Pour soup through mesh strainer to get any lumps out. Mixed strained soup with cottage cheese. Heat in microwave for 30 seconds. Enjoy the taste of lasagna! Please note that my Dr okayed cottage cheese during the full liquids phase, please make sure it is okay on yours as well. Enjoy! -
4 days post-op and barely drinking
shazwott13 replied to Old2NewMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
this is dangerous! If you don't get enough liquids you will get dehydrated and will end up back in the hospital. Are you counting all of your liquids including protein shakes and jello, etc? -
first stage is clear liquids, next stage is full liquids, 3rd stage is soft foods. I would guess this is more of a soft food, but it would depend on if you were able to liquefy it. I am 8 days out and just started full liquids today

Sleeved Yesterday 7/19 - having trouble!!
shazwott13 replied to Kyle Lukas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your emotional response is not surprising given the pain you are in. Also, we were warned that it is common for people to have a short bout of "buyers remorse" after the surgery due to a hormone released by the body. Are you able to tell whether the pain is due to gas from the laparoscopy or from the incisions? If it is gas, walking or at least changing positions and stretching your body in different directions helps. If it is from the incisions, I would contact the doctor. The inside pains from the surgery and staples is generally much better by 24 hours after the surgery which is why they send you home. If your pain is not controlled then you should be in the hospital until they are able to control it -

I'm mostly self conscious. Only 2 people know about the surgery and those wont be the people I will be eating with. I just don't want to have to keep explaining to people and have them make a big deal about it or get the weird looks :\ -
New here in Colorado
shazwott13 replied to natasha0820's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Born and raised in Colorado. I just had my surgery in Mexico (my insurance wouldn't cover it), but have some knowledge about bariatric surgery here. My mom got the Bypass from Dr. Snyder 15 years ago. He was one of the first surgeons in the state to offer it. My sister is scheduled to get her sleeve with him in September. The reason I would recommend him is because of all of the extra precautions he took and because of how much experience I personally knows that he has. I have actually been able to attend his pre-op classes with my sister and will attend his post-op classes with her as well. -
As long as you get the sleeve instead of gastric bypass, there shouldn't be a problem. My mom got the bypass and because it shortens the intestines, you absorb fewer calories so you tend to lose more weight. With the sleeve, if you feel like you are losing too much weight, all you would have to do is adjust the types of foods you are eating and lean towards higher calorie foods and you would be fine. I have actually never heard of anyone becoming too thin from either surgery unless they develop post-op anorexia. Post op anorexia is super rare because instead of obsessing about food after your surgery, it kind of become in consequential.

What to eat, drink?
shazwott13 replied to northstar9148's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery 2 days after you! I just started my full liquid diet today. I had my surgery in Mexico, so don't have a nutritionist. Here are the some of the things I was approved to eat this week (please note that everyone's diet is different). I was warned that tomato based products may be too acidic but that I could try them and see how I tolerate them. single grain baby cereal thinned with milk or protein shake thinned cream of wheat boiled chicken (can be seasoned) pureed with enough broth to go through through a funnel level 1 or 2 baby food (stick with fruits cuz I hear the other stuff is gross) I am actually allowed to have cottage cheese and don't have to blend it Yoplait whipped yogurt low sodium V-8
