I have just started this process. I always thought weight loss surgery was for those that were well let's just say, weigh more than me. I found Kaiser's Bariatric Clinic just by chance and made an appointment. The doctor I met with said I was a candidate for surgery but it would cost $13,000, she gave me phentermine instead. I've been down that road before. When I was younger it worked great. This time I lost 8# in four weeks and had excruciating headaches even while consuming a gallon of water a day. The next doctor I saw gave me Belviq which my insurance doesn't cover. I lost another 7# but other health problems make mobility difficult and the potential for regaining the weight. This doctor immediately identified my obstructive sleep apnea which has really helped with my brain fog and carb craving. I've started the Surgery Connections class and have my second appointment with psych in a few weeks. I'm really excited!
