Which celebrity do YOU think needs the Lap Band?

Susan, I like that website too where they had the full size women wearing the suits. I still don't look as good as they do yet so I'll save the miracle suit for next summer hopefully. I'm assuming they're good because they'd hold in extra skin etc... I'm an Upstate, up up up state New Yorker so you never know we could still have snow in May! I miss going down to Florida to take care of my dad when he was ill and fell in love with it, he was near Tampa. I remember flying through Chicago to get to Florida, one of those airline hub situations, anyway it was winter the people working the luggage carts outside looked so miserable and then you fly into Tampa and everyone is happy and in shorts! brandyII
  2. Telecia, Have you gone to CPAPTalk.com? That's where I was told to go when I first had some probs with my machine. Everyone has a picture of their machine and mask etc... up with their names, it's kind of funny. After two payments my insurance company bought the machine for me so that was nice. But I've found that I buy new mask parts and filters on line where they are cheaper. Your doctor is a nut if he/she won't let you have the humidifier, maybe you need a new doc! take care, brandyII.
  3. Suz, glad you found something appetizing for dinner, and it is crazy how you eat something and get really thirsty afterwards but can't drink. Is your throat dry at night because you're sleeping with your mouth open? If I don't sleep with my machine my throat hurts because I've somehow, don't know how, but trained myself to sleep with my mouth shut when I'm wearing my mask. It sits right above my upper lip so I kind of force down my mouth when I sleep. I don't use the heater but I do have a humidifier on mine. PCOS is polycystic ovarian syndrome and there are many signs that women have who have it and it can affect your weight and a lot other issues. A lot of women who have fertility issues are found to have it. I'm no doctor and that wasn't my issue but I can list some signs: Infrequent periods or messed up cycle Infertility from not ovulating Increased hair growth, can be on many parts of the body Ovarian cysts Acne, oily skin, dandruff, dry skin Weight gain especially around the waist Insulin resistant or type II diabetes High cholesterol/blood pressure Male pattern baldness or hair thinning Dark skin Patches on neck, arms, breasts or thighs Skin tags arm pits and neck area Pelvic pain Anxiety or depression due to appearance and/or infertility Sleep Apnea Does any of this sound familiar? I have most of these and that's why my primary thought I had pcos. There is a thread for PCOS here near the diabetes one. I'd search it on the web and find a site that explains it to you better. I guess from what they say there's no cure it's just managed. But anyway like Telecia said sleep apnea can cause heart attacks and it can be dangerous if it's not treated and whether or not the insomnia is related to your apnea isn't clear but if you could kill two birds with one stone wouldn't it be worth it? Anyway let me know what you think, Nancy.

Which celebrity do YOU think needs the Lap Band?

Ready, I meant if "I" had Oprah's money I would have all the fat sucked out because I could buy my surgeon but she wouldn't do it. My little sister, younger, shorter, decided after her "divorce" that she would have a tummy tuck and in the process got lipo and the weird thing is that they cut out a new hole for your belly button but you can still see where her old one was....it kind of creeps me out. I know it's probably hard to picture and maybe you don't want to picture it but it's true. Nancy. I miss the old thread with the bathing suits.............................Are they going to close this tread too????????????????????sad face

    Crab bake...BAD idea.

I have to ask this question, exactly what is crab bake at a Chinese restaurant. I never heard of Chinese food and cheese being an ingredient. Just curious, live on east coast up a ways, brandyII.

I hate it when people post just to post.....

Other thread was "closed" so I have to post just to post here. Crab dip made from blue crab, I'm from Maryland originally and it's really good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Fat people in movies

Glou, I'm a bit weird too, and don't like all the work bs that happens hence I prefer to work at home when I can but at the moment not working. I don't think I could deal with a guy who was that controlling either, too weird, belongs on Dr. Phil! I'd go for the better school district too! Nancy

    Fat people in movies

Ready/Glou Okay I was watching half of BJ's Diary on Bravo Friday night, love that movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Own both movies. I love her friends and I love the end when she's out in her unders under the snow fall and he wrapped her in her coat, it's so romantic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!brandy II Oh and didn't they make her gain 25 or 40 pounds for each movie and she ended up losing it again and seems very thin to me but that's just me. I appreciate it when actresses aren't all bones in the movies they're more real.

Which celebrity do YOU think needs the Lap Band?

Oprah wouldn't do it, she's afraid of surgery or something. Did you see where she got her ears pierced, it was major trauma for her. I think she's just afraid of pain/surgery etc.. If I had her money, I just have the fat sucked out every time it came back!
  10. No, from what I remember from Phen and from that other drug I was on that can't remember the name it was more of a nauseous/speed feeling. On the lap band you still get hungry but it doesn't take as much food to take the hunger away but with the drug you don't have the head hunger. Does that make sense? brandyII.
  11. Do you think that people that crave sweets have a harder time getting the band to work because they're easier to eat no matter how restricted you are? I know there are people that prefer certain foods to others or have weaknesses for certain foods. During hormonal times of the month I crave sugar and when I'm sleep deprived I do also. Any thoughts out there? brandy II, who is trying to Weight Watchers and they have sweets 2 points and under and hopefully that won't screw me up!!!!!!!:tt2:
  12. GraceU You are way too perfect! lol.

I am going to be honest ....

Calinurse, I have a weird thing where I feel hungrier on the days I exercise, which is mainly walking on the treadmill and/or weights. Anyone else feel hungrier? Sometimes I feel like I'm better off concentrating on my diet than exercising.

Which celebrity do YOU think needs the Lap Band?

Just a thought but have you noticed that more famous male celebs seem to die from obesity related illnesses than women, maybe it's because they're allowed to be celebs and still be obese. Did I start something, I don't know but if I did it's okay because I know a lot of us are bored. You mentioned Luther Van..., he was a yo yo dieter, from what I remember, and looked kind of scary really thin to me, I preferred him heavier. There are many others but it just seems to me that there are more males.

I am going to be honest ....

Cajuncutie, I got banded in 8/07 and have gained back all the weight I had lost prior to weight lost about 25 lbs. Anyway my fills were a bit screwed up all this time and I was basically overfilled or way underfilled and finally after pleading with my surgeon to take some out he took out half and now I'm at 2 ccs and I have a 10 cc band. I ate around the band also with sweets because they were going down easily and were satisfying but now that finally I can eat a piece of bread again I can eat healthy choices as opposed to the bad choices of the sweets and can eat a whole Weight Watcher's TV dinner etc... And on top of that I still have restriction with just 2 ccs and he didn't think I would. I don't know if that will help you but I know how frustrating it is especially when you see everyone's tickers going down and everyone screaming "I love my band!" and you're like "what's wrong with me?". Anyway just wanted to share my experience so you know you're not alone out there, I finally feel somewhat good and it hasn't even been a week yet but I think taking out those two ccs is finally working for me. Good luck to you okay and talk to you doctor and see what suggestions he/she has for you too. brandyII.,

    Some people, I swear...

I'm an apple but my goal is to be a crabapple:lol: I know I'm way too funny!
  19. Only problem is the lap band doesn't give you that "burst" of energy that drugs will give you but that's okay, as long as I can still lose weight. I was taking Phen-fen when I was a transcriptionist at home and after 4 hours of typing I was completely drained. Then I went on Phen-fen for only about a month until it was taken off the market and I could type up a storm!

    Some people, I swear...

Ready, I'm glad you found a suit you liked. I like the two pieces because you can usually find one that fits your body type. We have an Avenue at a mall but it's pretty far away but I'd like to check it out sometime. I've just looked on line. Also I forgot about Fashion Bug, they seemed to have a ton of suits the last time I was in there.
  21. When I started researching on why I might be having problems with my band I came across Dr. R.'s site and it listed hundreds of issues that people had with the band so it made me feel like maybe I screwed up because I got the band. Now I realize he was just trying to sell himself. I then found this forum and have learned that a lot of it has to do with my restriction and what I'm eating/not eating etc... So I'm happy I got the band because I still think the other is more drastic and scary to me even though my 19 year old is having gastric bypass surgery next month. Of course I worry like hell for her but it's her decision and she's researched it and seems to be happy with her choice and her surgeon. So all we do is support each other.:smile2:

Gloucester, I can tell by your avatar, you can be a tough beeach! LOL. It's true though once you become a mother, you turn into a bear of sorts. Which is the most important. I guess it has a lot to do with our personalities and how we were raised. But it'd definitely an easier world on the internet than it is in "real life" if that even exists anymore. I've been with the same man for 27 years so it would be really hard to relate to you situation but independence can be a good thing. Who has the nicer house? Does he have good taste in furnishings, will he let you rearrange. It's better to live with him than to marry him so at least you can test out the waters first. I did for the first two years my husband and I were together, I don't know if it helped then because I was so young at the time but these days you kind of have to. Good luck with your move with your bf! Nancy

    Where is everyone from???

Greenfield Center, New York, banded in Schenectady, New York banded 8/22/07 brandyII
  24. My primary care physician also did not want me to get the lap band as he thought the gastric bypass would work better but to most people it seems to be more of a drastic thing to do to your body and so they opt for the band. It has taken me months to get to work out the kinks in my band as to the right fill for me but once you do most people seem to be happy that they made this choice. You're always going to have people push their own procedure or product so you have to try to weed through a lot of the pitches to find out what's really going to work for you. Reading the negs as well as the positives can help also. Weigh them both and discuss with your surgeon. Get a second opinion if you can.
  25. asenft, I don't know how common that is and actually have never heard of that prior to you bringing it up. There are probably lots of freaky things that can happen and also things like erosion and leakage but those are probably more rare than anything else. Talk to you surgeon about the things that you are worried about and bring it all out in the open and see if he/she makes you feel better about it afterwards. It's good to be informed ahead of time but we all knew there were risks but our longing for weight loss always outweighed any of the risks to most of us. Good luck and stay informed and remember you are your own advocate! brandyII
