Thanks ingyrob, see if you can rent the movie sometime it's pretty funny. Walter Mathau (sp) played Mr. Wilson in the movie Dennis the Menace and there were some other famous actors in it as well. brandyII

Which celebrity do YOU think needs the Lap Band?

Yes, yes I did. Have you ever smoked? I have and I know why a lot of people do prior to the actual addiction. Research old smoking ads and you'll see that some were directed towards women to keep their weight down! This woman was a nurse so I think she knew that "smoking may cause cancer". I'm still a bit confused as to what your actual shtick is but let's just say it's different from mine. So we'll just have to agree to disagree because there's no way I am going to get my point of view across to you and there's no way vice versa. Did I ever say "the whole thin world is out to get me?" No, I don't think so. It's being sold to me left and right but out to get me no. I love thin people, some of my best friends are thin. I actual have thin relatives too. My dog is thin and I really love her but she loves to snuggle with me at night to keep her warm! If I put Oprah on a pedestal, and I never mentioned her before, it's because she's a very successful African American woman not because she has weight issues but DESPITE her weight issues!!! People like to watch TV, they like to see people on TV that represent them. African Americans like to see shows with African American people in those shows. Asians like to see themselves represented on TV and in movies too. Most people like to see themselves represented in a positive light. The world is not made up of all perfect looking white people and so it's nice to be represented in our world by good roll models. We already have plenty of good thin roll models can't we have a couple large size ones too, please, pretty please!!!!!!! brandy II, still awake at 1:37 AM Eastern time!

Why are people afraid of atheism?

I'd say something about this topic but then I'd be going against my policy on not discussing politics, religion and the "Great Pumpkin", brandyII who is the proud mother of one agnostic and one pagan. My mother would be rolling in her Catholic grave!

    FINALLY-A New Grey's Anatomy

Athinnerdenise, That's funny, I'm on the east coast but I'm trying to dry my nails so you know it's almost 1:00 AM here. I have to drive 8 hours to go to a funeral tomorrow. I was kind of irate at one of the posts in rants and raves so I'm still recovering from that, lol. I haven't heard back from her though. She must be asleep. There are times you don't tick me off, before a big trip to a funeral or when I'm pmsing! Oh but anyway Mad Men is really good, it's a drama on AMC on Sunday nights and they've been repeating them. It takes place in NYC in the very early 60s and everyone smokes even the gyno when he gives you an exam is smoking, lol. It's pretty juicy too. Check it out if you can it's worth the watch. I was born in 1960 so it's kind of nostalgic I guess.

Which celebrity do YOU think needs the Lap Band?

Sorry I was so angry but tomorrow I'm going to drive 8 hours for a funeral for my sister-in-law's mother who died way too young because of lung cancer. My own mother died of lung cancer at the age of 51. Women have used cigarettes for years to keep from eating too much and gaining weight. This woman died thin. I don't know if that's what she was striving for. I'm sure she would have rather have spent a few more years alive to see her grandson graduate from medical school.:blushing: brandyII still striving to be happy in her own skin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Hi Jachut, Hence I did put "healthy" self acceptance. I know you're down to your goal weight or past it and are happy with your body as I can see by your avatar, if that is you, then you look marrvalous. But anywho, there are a lot of women no matter what size they are who will never feel completely accepting of their own bodies. Men too. It's not just a women issue anymore. I currently weigh 248.03 lbs, I have weighed 125 pounds, I may have looked better, may have been healthier physically, I was also 20 but I still did not feel good about my body. This maybe something you cannot understand or relate to. But there are many of us who will not be a size 0 but are being told in so many ways that a size 0 is what we should strive for. Men, I think it's a size 6"+, that's a :blushing:. Seriously though, there should be no harm or shame in a girl or boy who is overweight in feeling good about themself even though they may not fit the "standard" of our cultures. I'd like to think that we humans have evolved a bit more than that. We live with enough shame every day because of our size, if there are others out there that we can relate to size-wise and they are good people where is the harm in that and why does it bother you so much that it makes us feel good!!!!! I don't even want to be a size 0 again, I'm freakn 48 years old and I've been with the same loving man for 28 freakn years. He loves me as I am but I have been brainwashed to think my whole life that unless I'm a certain size I'm WORTHLESS! I'd think someone who has been there would be able to be a bit more empathetic. I never said I think everyone in the world should weigh 500 lbs but no matter what we weigh or how we look we don't need people reinforcing those bad feelings like you seem to want to do. Am I only to be happy when I've reached "goal", am I only acceptable to you once I've reached goal? I accept you at your weight can you accept me and others are our weights? Thanks brandyII:closedeyes:

plain, Thanks, get some male input in here about women of size, I'm still reading Jachut's post....brandyII I'm not familiar with Carrie Otis so I'll have to look her up on the web. I saw Emme on one of those CNN type shows, I forget which one but she was talking about cancer and had lost her hair and it was at the growing back phase, but seriously Plain jump with your "male" perspective on this issue.

    FINALLY-A New Grey's Anatomy

Guys, If I ever talk about a show just remember I'm really bad at remembering names. Do you watch Desperate Housewives too? I also started watching Mad Men on AMC this year and that's a really good show. Anyone else watch Mad Men? brandyII

Which celebrity do YOU think needs the Lap Band?

Turler, You're right. I got the impression that Queen L. was suffering from diabetes possibly. You're also right about Emme, I guess I confused her with Elle McPherson? I think Emme might have cancer. I don't remember all the details but I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere. Now I'm not sure if I know of the same Dove campaign. I remember it was average women who were older. But not on billboards, just in ads. That reminds me of that show that Carson Kresley (sp) had about women accepting their bodies and at the end of the show he'd take a picture of them in just bra and panties or covered with something and put it up on a bill board but everyone was so positive on the streets. Could have been editing but still proves how much self hatred we have for our own bodies no matter what size we are really. :blushing: healthy self acceptance brandyII.

Which celebrity do YOU think needs the Lap Band?

Nikkiiii, (I lied I changed it again) You're right and without people like you this forum would not be as awesome!!! She's almost 20 and starting her 3rd year in college and it's been a tough last few years on the girl it's really our only choice at this time. As long as we have insurance coverage on her we're going to use it! She lost a total of 19 pounds now for two weeks, she's really showing me something. As you can see after a few of my failures I'm down 2 whole pounds now yippee!!! She's much stronger and braver than I'll ever be! brandyII

It's a really funny commercial. There's also a funny movie that came out a some years ago Dennis the Mennis after the old tv show and comic strip. Anyway I don't know if you saw that movie but it was really funny. I guess I have a really mature sense of humor:rolleyes2:. But anyway, Dennis is spending the night at Mr. Wilson's house, I'm hoping you're familiar with the character. Anyway he's playing in Mr. Wilson's bathroom and starts fooling around with his dentures like they talk or something. The kid is really adorable. And he drops the dentures and the two front teeth break off and he glues "Chicklets" (sp) they're a square gum we sell in a little box, you probably have it but don't want to assume. Anyway they're obviously white pieces of gum and Mr. Wilson has to have his picture taken so he puts in his dentures and it's just funny because he never checked in the mirror after putting them on and he has the big grin with the gum for teeth:lol: it's just really funny, brandyII.

    Fat people in movies

I grew up with three older brothers and a younger sister and we fought like cats and dogs, she was the evil one, natch. Anywho, I don't know if that has anything to do with it but it was always easier for me to be friends with gay males than girls. I don't know why and I see that in my own daughters too. What's with that? :confused:Nancy Oh and I don't work anymore but always hated offices where people gossiped all the time, that's why I liked typing at home and being my own boss but that can get a bit boring after a few years!!!

ingyrob, Do you have the commercial where this elderly couple puts in each other's false teeth by accident> I don't even remember what the commercial was for but it's really funny because she has his large teeth and he has her small ones.

I was watering hanging baskets on my front porch and using a glass picture and I accidentally:embaressed_smile: bumped it into my daughter's mouth, as she was behind me and broke half of one of her front teeth:scared2: Anywho, it's fixed but she still reminds me of that little story every once in a while to make me feel :blushing: bad!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm a bad mommy!!!!!!!! brandyII

Which celebrity do YOU think needs the Lap Band?

Niki, I'm sticking with that so don't think me a control freak but I'll screw it up all the time. She's 19 and is on the five week pre-op liquid diet phase and I have to bring her once a week to get weighed and get her blood pressure taken and pick up the packs of Medifast. She lost 12 pounds her first week and this is a partial second week because I have to go out of town for a funeral tomorrow. She's not getting the lap band, she's getting the gastric bypass. Can't do what he mother did it would be copying! No but this is what she really wanted to do and she's over 18 so I letting her make her own decision. Anyway she's been pretty syched about it but doesn't like to go on forums even though I tell her they're nice she still won't. Well maybe she will one day. Have a great day and I'll talk to you later gator, brandyII.
