Patti, I don't think you're alone when it comes to losing weight and then it stopping and putting it back on. I've heard from several bansters who are in the same situation. I myself found that many factors kept me from losing after being banded and then I put back the 25. Talk to your surgeon about what's going on and see how much is in your band and if adding more should be an option for you or if you're too full. Either one can sabotage your efforts. Everyone is different but some people seem to do better with something more regimented like following Weight Watchers and they can tell you exactly how much food you can consume a day and still lose weight. We all put ourselves through hell by our weight gain and you know what we're better than that. March into that doctor's office and say I have a problem with some weight gain let's get this thing turned around. It's your life not his/hers! Do you think you need a punishment for gaining weight, well too late you're already punishing yourself! Do you think you're the first patient your doctor has seen put on weight, no. If things continue to get worse then say to your doctor what do we do next? Be proactive with your health and good luck, and don't hate yourself, you're not a failure by all means!!!:thumbup:brandyII.

Go to "tickerfactory.com" and there should be instructions. Of course I depend on my husband or kids for computer help but I think there should be something instructional there.

SDBM, Well it may seem like we're alone out there but we're not. There are plenty more of us who have issues they're just not always comfortable coming out about it. Maybe if they were they'd be able to get more help to turn things around. brandyII.

Hey I've been up in NY for over 20 years now and they still say I have an accent, they're not sure what it is though! I think I'm more southern than northern y'all!!!
-
Well that's understandable, you do what you have to do to get them down. It can be harder in the morning to get anything down so maybe hot tea or something might help after surgery. For me some go before food, some after food, some with food, it's always something!

All doctors must be different, I'm on many meds for many different things and I don't have to do anything special with my drugs. Maybe right after surgery if a pill is very large but other than that I'm fine. Time released meds may be different and I'm not on any of those.

No probs! brandyII:smile:

three sixty six, she was taking a dosage that was under the danger zone for addiction and everyone is different. She's working with a psychiatrist and is finally getting her panic attacks under control. Lexapro and other similar drugs by themselves maybe helpful as an antidepressant but when it comes to anxiety and panic attacks they don't work for all people and they may need more assistance.
-
benhamgal, I think you're fine and you were just worried that you'd be able to take your meds prior to surgery. I'm glad you finally feel better now and hope you continue to, brandyII.

Is Maryland considered southern? We had an attic fan and the door to the attic was in my closet and instead of opening the door and letting out all the hot air my dad put a little door in the door so that he could switch on the fan when he wanted to. I don't remember hearing the fan though. But I can't sleep without one and we had central AC then too.

I'm glad things are working out for you. You probably freaked her so much by standing up for yourself! Wouldn't hurt to keep track of the stupid stuff she does or says to you but if she staying out of you way now that's the best gift she could give you besides quitting! Good luck! brandyII.

What are your thought on candles these days. My sister had cancer and afterwards went through a time where she got anything out of the house that could be a carcinogen. This happen to include her favorite brand of jar candle that is in most malls. (She loves sugar cookie or was it Christmas cookie) Anyway I don't remember if it had something to do with the scents they were using or what but now says it's better to buy soy candles. I love my candles and buy them as gifts a lot and was wondering if you all have opinions on the matter or knowledge about this. Thanks brandyII.:smile:/:wink2:

Help me please! AGB vs RNY
brandyII replied to BabyNicole's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I guess I'm the only one whose diabetes II got worse after surgery than before! I would put lol but it's really not funny. I'm also now on lipitor for high cholesterol! brandyII:frown: -
MintyMew, I'm one of those that have had some problems in the weight department, meaning I gained back what I lost prior to surgery, 25 lbs. It's been a very frustrating road for me trying to get things working right. I chose this surgery over RNY because I was afraid and have had issues eating around the band ever since because I had been too tight or not tight enough. I can't say I definitely would have been more successful with the RNY because I don't know for sure but my GP wanted me to have it and I kind of convinced all my docs that I could do the lap band even though I didn't know what I was in for. I thought the only difference was that I would lose weight at a slower pace and I was fine with that but what I didn't realize is that the foods that were considered "junk foods" went right through the band and the healthy ones were the ones you had to work on to chew and could only eat so much of like proteins and veg and fruit. So if I was frustrated from only being able to eat a tbs of protein I knew I could eat a cookie I would. It's not like the band kept me from changing any bad behaviors I had before I was banded. They tell you to avoid those foods but really only tell you that the high caloric drinks are the ones that will make you gain weight. My 19 year old daughter is having the RNY this coming Tuesday and I'm really proud of her because she's done so well so far and has lost about 35+ in the past 6 weeks on her liquid diet. I am nervous because because she is my baby and because I wish she didn't have to go through all of this in the first place but for her own happiness and sanity it's a choice she has made and I'm supporting her decision. At my age and with yo yo dieting for years and a bad sweet tooth anyway it probably wasn't the right choice for me. I may never get down to a healthy weight again, it's just something I may have to accept because of my struggles. There maybe some other contributing factors to this failure of mine but for now it's neither here nor there and I have to deal with what I've chosen and how I behave. Anyway take everything into consideration before you make such a life changing decision. I'm not very popular because I have somewhat regretted my banding and this is a place where people want to support each others success with the band and that's understandable. No one wants to hear something bad about something they really are passionate about and has changed their lives for the better! There could be problems with weight gains with any of the surgeries so don't think only one type has those issues, read as much as you can. There's a good book out there that I bought for my daughter called "Weight Loss For Dummies" and she read it and enjoyed it and learned a lot from it. It doesn't cover much on the lap band though so take that into consideration. Anyway good luck with your decision I know it's not an easy one but if someone could stopped me and told me I'd totally screw this up prior to surgery I may have thought twice. Take care brandyII:smile:

Wendy, Wish I could help, I went down to 2 ccs from 4 and haven't gone back up yet and hoping to soon. 4 was too tight and still having issues getting this thing working the way it should, good luck to you brandyII. -
Jenna, That's so cute you got a baby from your birds. We have a brother/sister pair of cockatiels also and I'm hoping it won't stress them out too much. We'll see, we've had them for about 9 years. We also have two rescue dogs and the baby is being raised around German shepherds that they raise also so I'm happy about that, talk to you later, brandyII.

Thanks Jenna, We're going to pick him/her up next month from a breeder. He's being hand fed now, but we won't know the sex until we get a test done at the vets. I'm going to change his picture to a more updated one when my husband gets a chance. It's going to be quite the experience. He/she is actually going to be my daughter's bird and she's 19 and goes to school but still lives at home and wants to be the one to bond with the bird. She's getting gastric bypass surgery next Tuesday so it's kind of a special gift for her bday this year with all the stuff she's had to go through for the surgery etc... Anyway I'm sure that's TMI:lol: thanks, brandyII

It's true everyone is different after getting the lap band. Some need the type of structure that WW provides and some can just handle the 3 meals a day thing. You were provided with a lot of good information prior to your surgery that some people were not that's all. I never expected that I'd be back full circle going to WW again after my lap band and still struggling to stay within my points! I'm sure I'm only a small percentage who feel that way, brandyII.

Sorry to hear that SDBeachMom, I've never had the reflux problem a lot of people have but know too well what it's like to get down to a small size and put it back on. To me it's more devastating than never having lost it at all because you were there and got to "taste" thin, and then you have to deal with all the people in your life who wonder or say how could you go back to that size again and they obviously have no clue whatsoever of what a real struggle it is. Sometimes I wonder if I'm just fooling myself thinking I'm actually going to get this to work. But I walked today on the treadmill and that in itself made me feel better and everyday I deal with my band failure, although no one likes to hear it called that but what am I to say "my failure", I'm trying to be specific, I could have many failures going on at the same time, who knows!! But anyway I don't know your whole story about if you've gained it back or just are at a standstill for now but good luck with whatever you choose to do and this is a good start for talking it out, it's been keeping me from jumping off a bridge, brandyII.

I just looked at my WW book "getting started 1" and it's from the year 2001, last time I actually joined WW. I checked with my SIL who is currently going and looked at her book and she figured out I should get 31 pts for someone my age and weight but it seems high but oh well, I'll just use the old book I don't think it's that much different than the new one I just won't count the exercise when I walk. Well it really doesn't surprise me that the people would be like that. I never would tell anyone at WW that I had a band especially since I wasn't doing well and needed to go there, lol. There's always people that knock wls and think you've gotten off easy like it's lipo or something and it's totally not. Some people do seem to lose weight very easily with the lap band but some people like me have been struggling since the beginning. But I'm not giving up, just trying to deal, brandyII
