Down a total of 15 pounds so far!

I'm trying to restrict myself to weighing once a week. The fluctuations every day drive me nuts.

Eating past the 20 minute mark

LOL! I'm not a big fan of tuna so I'm basically forcing myself to eat it. My stomach has no issue with it but my nose does.

Eating past the 20 minute mark

The grazing comment hit home for my brain. I have a tendency to work through lunch, thus making my meals last quite a while. This habit is probably what lead me to eat everything in sight at dinner since I didn't eat "on time". (I.e every 4 hours) I've added an eating timer to my other timers to help break this habit. Thank y'all. I love this forum! I'm learning so much to help me make the most of my new tummy.
  4. I finally figured out that room temperature non-caffeine herbal tea worked for me in the first few days. A lot of people have suggested chamomile tea and peppermint tea. It does get better. I'm 12 days out and no longer have issues with plain water.

Good luck all! You will rock it!!

    LET'S TACKLE FALL CHALLENGE

    Exciting!
  7. I have basically been hungry since day 2 after surgery. I am 9 days post op and have started getting shaky and light headed, kind of a hypoglycemic feeling. I am getting in my protein and water and have set a timer to remind me to eat every 3 hours. I handle liquids, yogurt and some mushy foods with no issues. I will stop when I feel at little pain at the bottom of my stomach. That might be my "full" but I can't say for certain. Since I am unsure about being full I am portioning out 1/4 to 1/2 cup per meal (depending on consistency). This might sound stupid but I'm not sure what my body is telling me I need. I know when I would feel like this pre-sleeve I would eat everything I could to make the feeling go away and was rarely successful. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Feeling shaky and light headed

Thank you for the feedback. I bought some Fairlife milk today and a sample of a non-whey protein. I made the shake this afternoon and was surprised that I could only drink 2-3 oz comfortably over 20 minutes. I was able to drink the whey protein shakes much faster. I currently take a Prilosec every morning. Is there something else I can take in addition for acid? I'm slowly moving on to soft foods starting tomorrow so I hope to be able to consume much less artificial sweeteners. I hated them pre-op and still hate them now.

    9 days postop...

The major hormone fluctuation can bring on feelings of depression. Very common. Sorry I can't add more advice. I'm bi-polar so I already take a mood stabilizer that is helping me avoid this issue. Just a thought- Exercise helps with the happy endorphins. Good luck.

    Goal weight??

My husband and I were talking about this today. I have more of a goal shape rather than a goal weight. If I have to pick a weight I'm going with the weight I was at 18 years ago, before I got pregnant with my youngest. That number is still too high according to the incredibly antiquated BMI charts but I was in the best physical shape of my adult life at that time. I was toned, looked good in clothes, and was wearing a size of clothing that made me happy. That shape is my goal.
  11. So I had surgery on Aug 10 and have been relatively pain free. However today my main incision is really hurting. It is not red but is really bruised. Has anyone else had this where everything was fine and then started hurting?
  12. Once you get them you are prone to them for life.
  13. Amen! I've had four drug free labors and I will take that over a kidney stone ANY day! I've also experienced the full realm of stones from the easy, stints, lithotripsy, and even had kidney stones during my last two pregnancies.

    Incisions are EXTREMELY itchy

I've been using vitamin E lotion multiple times a day. It sounds odd but I also kind of slap the parts that itch. I will have to give the ice a try My husband has offered to duct tape pot holders on my hands so I don't scratch my skin raw. (Eye roll)

    5 days out Incision hurting

I'm feeling the same way. I know it is an individual journey and blah, blah, blah but someone please give me some hard goals and limits so I can tell if I'm doing this right. I have so many questions for my nutritionist appointment on Friday. I have a feeling I'll either come out feeling confident or more overwhelmed and lost. I recognize a lot will be trial and error, so not 100%, but I at least want to feel confident about the path. Hang in there. We can't be newbies forever (right?) :-)

    5 days out Incision hurting

I asked my surgeon about my pain yesterday and he just smiled and said it will take a while. They cut through a lot of muscle that needs to heal. I'm not sure I'll ever stop worrying about a leak, but I wouldn't think the stomach ache alone indicates a leak. I would never say ignore the pain though and I would definitely call my surgeon for peace of mind. "Symptoms of stomach leak include: rapid heart rate, dizziness, shortness of breath, fever, worsening abdominal pain, left chest or shoulder pain, abdominal distention, the appearance of illness and a general feeling that something is very wrong."
  17. I've had both types of stones Calcium and Muric Acid. (pre-surgery) The Muric ones pass with much less pain. I did not really feel it until it was getting closer to my bladder. The calcium stones usually will bring you to tears as it passes. The pain does usually start in the lower flank. My kidneys usually feel like they are contracting (not sure how else to explain it). As the stone moves, the location of the pain will move with it. A urine test is an easy way to quickly determine if kidney stones are an issue. If you are passing any blood (not always visible) or protein in your urine they will probably do more tests. Calcium stones show up really well on an x-ray.
  18. Hard to explain. What are you feeling?

    Swallowing vitamins

Is it one patch or multiple? I HATE chewable vitamins and, even though I have no problem swallowing pills, am not a fan of swallowing so many throughout the day.

    Dehydration?

And don't be embarrassed, getting fluids down is so much easier said than done.
  21. gotime0810

    Dehydration?

Call your surgeon ASAP. Dehydration is very dangerous.

I MADE MYSELF SICK AFTER EATING.

Take a breath and Don't beat yourself up. The important thing is that you recognized immediately that you might have slipped backwards. It's also a good sign that it worries you and you didn't feel that sense of relief you used to feel when you would purge. I don't have a history of eating disorders but I do have a history of mentally sabotaging myself. Personally I would make an appointment with my therapist ASAP, call your surgeon to discuss if he thinks there might have been any damage done and talk to your Nutritionist. If eating scares you right now it won't hurt if you go back to liquids. As they say, recognizing there is a problem is the first step. (((HUGS)))

    Second thoughts

I'm only about a week post-op but I have not regretted my decision at any point. During the healing process you will have a lifestyle change because you can only consume a limited amount of food. However as you progress you will be able to eat real food again, granted your portions will be smaller but that shouldn't prevent you from enjoying time with family and friends. Not going to lie, the healing process is no joke. It is not easy but if you REALLY want to lose the weight for the right reasons then you will make it. If you are not ready to commit to healthier food choices and exercise then I would say you should put the surgery off. As far as malnutrition goes, take your vitamins and make healthy food choices and you will be fine. If you are not ready to commit to a healthy way of eating then this may not be the right time to go through with this. Have you ever done Weight Watchers where they basically teach that you can eat almost anything you want but you have to stay within your points. They highly encourage making good choices but at the same time not depriving yourself with the key being the portion control. Well, this is like the Weight Watchers plan with a built in portion controller.
