Surgery and Working
Shariberry replied to Tanyatata's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also work a desk job, had surgery on a Monday, went back to work the following Monday. I felt OK, but was a kind of a zombie that whole week. Depending on you situation, you can probably go back after 1 week off, but I'd suggest 2. -
Thanksgiving? I’ll be 3 weeks post op....TORTURE!
Shariberry replied to GeTnBackuP's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Whatever you decide cook WAY less. If you eat out, eat off some one elses plate. You will be able to eat mashed potatoes or candied yams. Getting it done just before the holidays might sound tough, but look at the bright side- no holiday season weight gain this year. Also, I started to feel a lot better with more energy about the 1 month, so although the food experience will be much different, you should still be able to enjoy good company. Good luck! -
I hiccup when I'm full. I had a runny nose for the first month post op (annoying but totally gone now). Also, my taste buds must have changed because I do not miss beer. Not even a little bit. I was so worried about having to give up beer, but now I dont even want it. My old self would be sad, but my new self is just so happy getting healthy. I wonder if people think their nose has grown because they have lost weight in their face?

Not coping with lack of support
Shariberry replied to monkeyol's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome @monkeyol! If I have learned anything, some people will support you and others will not. Many do not understand the surgery, and a lot of people have never been over weight. They may just be worried for your safety. Now saying that, there is a reason I only decided to tell a couple family members and my husband. You need all the support you can get, and any negativity just needs to be shut out and ignored if possible. I am the same height, and a very similar weight and chose to have the surgery as well. I was having serious arthritis issues, due to the extra weight, which made it hard to exercise. I am only 1 and a half months post op, but can tell you I do not regret my decision even one bit. The decision to undergo surgery is a personal one, one you will have to decide on yourself, but I will say for me it has given me the tools to get my life back. There are a ton of vets on here that will be a tremendous source of information, and lots of us newbies on here for support. Chin up girl, you know the reason you are doing this. Show them how hard you are willing to fight for your health. -

Advice and Support Needed!

Things are going great. I can eat pretty much "anything" again, which has been nice to be able to eat veggies. I missed them so much. Its so much easier to say, "No thanks" to the crap food I used to be tempted by. Going out to eat is still kind of tough with co-workers, but I've noticed people tend to pay more attention to themselves, than what I'm eating anyways. I feel really good. Its amazing what loosing 20 lbs will do for even just my comfort level. I haven't needed to go out and buy any new clothes yet, as I have apparently been stocking clothes that were too small for me in the back of my closet that I haven't worn for years. I got a groupon for Hot Yoga, and have been doing that about 2x a week, but I know I need to kick my work out schedule up a notch. Especially now that I am getting energy back. The first few weeks were hard, but the one month mark I really started to feel like myself again. I have been getting my vitamin B injections, which has really helped with energy levels as well. I know I will have to work hard to meet my goal, but I am up for the challenge. @specialkron thanks so much for the advice. Because I am traveling alone, the plain ride home is one of the most nerve racking things I worry about. I'll plan on bringing a small bag for souvenirs. Did you pack bullion cubes, or did you pick some up down in MX? That would be an easy thing to pack in my purse. About how long after surgery were you back to feeling well? You are about six weeks out now, I've heard thats about the time people start to feel good again (although everyone is different). What have you found most challenging? Congrats on the weight loss! I am so excited to get down to MX this month! I'll continue to follow your progress. -
This is a great reminder. Getting in my goal of 27g of fiber a day can be tricky. I am always looking for new ways / recipes to get my fiber in from whole sources.

7 weeks out - craved carbs last night - help
Shariberry replied to GotProlactinoma's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When you eat sugar, your body will crave sugar. I found this out quick pre-op doing the whole 30 diet. I have always had a sweet tooth, but totally cutting out sugar during the diet made me loose that craving. Sounds to me like the sauce on your dinner probably had a lot of sugar in it, or a lot of refined carbs (which turn to sugar). That craving/feeling is scary because it is so powerful and I can totally relate. Make sure you are logging your food on myfitness pal and you will see which foods might have spiked you want for sugar, especially if you eat stuff that has refined sugar in it. Good luck, you got this. -

I was just down in Mexico a few weeks ago, and flew from Utah. I am feeling great, and so excited that I am off of the liquid only and on the pureed foods now. I flew with Southwest. You can call them, and ask them which flights are typically the least crowded. I paid the extra $30 for the Early Bird check in so that I could be towards the front of the line, and hopfully pick my very own seat. If you request wheel chair access/assistance, you will not need to pay the Early bird fee, and will be boarded first. If the plane isnt full, you can probably take the window and the middle seat. I am so excited for you to go and do this. Its exciting because things like, fitting in an airplane seat, will not be a worry for you in the future. Good luck! -
This looks amazing. I can't wait until I can eat normal food again. I miss my veggies soo much!

I just returned from Tijuana yesterday. Honestly, I don't think that Tijuana is the best vacation get a way location. However, when you travel for surgey they keep you pretty confined to safe areas. If you were traveling for vacation, I'd say pick somewhere else. However, especially with the doctor you chose they will keep you in safe areas. Good luck to you,

Travel so soon after surgery?
Shariberry replied to Kristi Jacobs's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
My doctors started me on blood thinners prior to the flight for this very reason, and now that I am home, have to continue them for about a week. -
Good for you! I just got back, and although I am still healing I know it was the right decision. Good luck to you!

Any August 2017 Sleevers?
Shariberry replied to Jessalene's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's rough that you are recovering from both surgeries, but good you were able to get another issue fixed at the same time. After my second c-section I had HORRIBLE gas pain. The only thing that helped me at that time was walking, and knowing that it would eventually pass. Hang in there! This will all be a distant memory before you know it. -
