Terrified that I have no restriction yet
bigpapa2 replied to chic28's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also had my band on 7/23/08. I was feeling the same way you are feeling now. I am eating a lot of protien and drink water like crazy, it seem to help my through the crazy hunger. If it get real bad I will has a scambled with shreaded chicken and wait 40 mintes and drink more water. i have a 10cc band and got 5cc's during surgery. I have no retrection and get my 1st. fill friday, I do not look at the scale because I know at this stage we are just going to hang in there until we get restriction, i also find it helps to talk in the chatt room, it takes my mind off food to talk to others. Good luck to you and hang in there....you can do this!!!! -
Ok, this my problem. I was banded on the 23rd. Of July and I have been on many diets and weight loss plans in my life. I am still well over 300lbs and have been that way for awhile. My problem is, I have lost 40- 50lbs before by watching what I eat and exercising 5 to 6 days a week. After working out that hard I have always seemed to hurt myself and injured my foot, knees and hips. I have been told this is because of my weight and injures I accrued in the military. How can I loss the weight at a good pace so to one day be able to workout again? I see a lot of people here saying they workout 5 days a week. I have no access to a pool which would make thing much easier. I do walk now but usually take the next day off to recover because I don’t want to hurt myself and end up failing again. Have many of you been able to loss a lot of weight without really being able to workout? I really want this to work but don’t want to get hurt and end up on my butt or back again and not being able to move.

Filled During Surgery?
bigpapa2 replied to AliNSanDiego's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was given 5cc in a 10cc band. I felt tight the first few day but now on my 6th. day I am drinking better and having some cream soup. I seem to be a little hungier but I am trying to drink more fuids in between my meals. My Dr. wants to give me another 2cc in 3 more weeks at my first fill at his office. I hope I have restriction at that time. -
Hey all, I just got banded on the 23rd. There was some trouble with the surgery and it took about 5hrs to finish. I stayed in the hospital over night and am home now. I have a 10cc band and it has 5cc in it at surgery. I cant drink more than about 1/2 of a cup of liquids at a time. very unconfortable after drinking. No shoulder pain from gas but just cant drink much. Tried a 1/3 of jello and have pain. Should i be this restricted this soon? My dr. said I would be really swelled from the surgery, is that why I cant drink anything? I am getting in fluids, small amounts at a time. I am burping alot and passing gas alot. This morning I could only get two popsycles down. Is this normal?

If i notice a weight change in someone, I have no problem saying something. I find for me it is easier to say" have you lost weight?" and if they say yes, i congraduated them, and if they say no I simply say" boy it looks like you are and walk away" so to not make to much of deal out of it. If they have not loss weight it still makes them feel good to think that someone thinks hey have. My wife will sometimes tell me, her girl friend has lost weight and to make sure I tell her I notice the change. She has me trained very well. I think you can compalment someone without make it sound sexual.

I hope you dont mind a mans point of view. I agree with other replys, just tell him or just do it. Trust me as a married man I would love if my wife started things off. My wife gives little hints and when i dont kick up on the hints I loss out and than she tells me the next day what kind of mood she was in the night before. Like most men I'm not too bright, so I asked to just tell me or just do what she has to do. I hate knowing the day after what I could of had....I dont know one guy that will say "no not tonight hun, you are just being to agressive". not going to happen! I wish you lots of luck

Most looking forward to...
bigpapa2 replied to YoungNy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
well, I am looking forward to playing outside with my kids without getting winded. less hip, knee and lower back pain. not having to ride on a scooter any more in walmart when my back is hurting. I wont have to wondering if people are think "why is such a good looking woman doing with that really fat guy" when I'm walking with my wife. I would just love to be able to wear a shirt smaller than a 3x size and have it cover my stomach. Oh, and i would love to not feel ashamed when a hostess takes me to a booth to eat and not have to asking for a table i could fit in better. -
Intense pain in left shoulder, still gas?
bigpapa2 replied to Dia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Question, I had my gallblader taken out about 6 months ago and didnt get that gas pain. So does that mean, I have a good chance of not having that gas and pain from the lap band surgery? -
Anyone not on a pre-op diet before surgery?
bigpapa2 replied to angelface's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No liquid diet for me at all, I have a 1200 cal diet 1 week before...my BMI is 56 -
This morning, I had an appointment to have a heart stress test done at my local V.A. hospital. Because my foot was injured, I was not able to walk on the treadmill. The doctor medically induced my heart rate for 4 minutes to substitute running for 4 minutes. I felt HORRIBLE! Even at this late night I am still feeling effects from the medication. Has anyone else had this experience or is my reaction unusual?

Total meltdown yesterday - just venting
bigpapa2 replied to Long2BFree's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in the same boat with you. I am not on a liquid diet before my surgery, I just have to lose some weight. Lucky for me, my wife has joined Weight Watchers and is trying to lose weight also. We do the Subway thing two ($5 12in. sub) and we split it. I have gotten to the point where I can eat half of my 6in. sub and save the rest for later. I get a little turkey on my sub with veggies, so I get a little protien. I also have my medical weight loss protien bars that I eat between meals. If you get a chance to check out some of the resturants, they do have low carb meals on their menues. My wife and I have also found it nice to walk together without our children, its a nice way to spend time with each other and also get our exercise in. My wife put together a cabinet in our kitchen that has only our diet food for us, so our children still have a little bit of junk food, but are not allowed in our cupboard. For that late night ice cream fix, that we just have to have, we enjoy the chocolate ice cream bars from Weight Watchers. -
Drink some stuff to clean you out
bigpapa2 replied to kristylyn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have taken Megnesium citrate before and it is a MUST to have it real cold and I bought baby wipes and the softess two ply T/P i could find. It hit me round 30 to 60 minutes later. So please dont go shopping or dive any where. I have also taken a tea called smooth move.... I drink it hot with a little splenda...It takes longer for it to work on me.... -
Applebottom, I have been told I am pretty funny ,but what I find is I was more funny when I was smaller about 5 years ago. My weight has made me more drepressed and upset at myself for letting myself get like this. This might sound wierd but when I'm not happy I tend to not make others happy. I have a short fruse and less patient with others. I use to bowl, play softball and I now I stay home most of the time. I think you might be just as funny or more. Im not saying just lossing the weight will make you funnier, I think if your funny you are funny. You sound very cool.....you will still be the life of the party....

*PROOF* of 6 month diet
bigpapa2 replied to Iwanttotriagain's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was able to get my medical records from my family Dr. to prove I was weighed every month and was working with him for the year to loss weight. I also got a letter from the medical weight loss center to prove I was working with them for 4 months. i was there 3 times a week and seeing their Dr. once a month. I was seeing a Nutrionist with the Vet. hopital to prove I was working with the Move on program for 2 years. I was also weighed by them at least twice a month. I had them write a letter to show I was working with them. So try to get letters and proof from any where you can. If you used slimfast and told your Dr. hopefully they wrote it down, plus any other thing you tried that your Dr. knows about. Not sure if this helps but good luck! -
I am so sorry about your insurance problem. I think you have to till the end of May to make a choose of your plan..But not sure. I kind of had the same problem. my old insurance wanted me to wait and do 1 year at the medical weight loss center before applying for the band. I did 4 months but the 45 minute drive was too much for my pocket with these gas prices. I changed my insurance on April first. I told them why I was changing and what I would have to do to get the band thou them...have you called the new insur.Co. to see what they think about your problem? I got a lot of info from them and changed April first and started finishing my apt. for the band the vary next day.... I also have two years of working with Vet. hospital to help me with my process.for the band. Hope this helped a bit.

Great - 6 months of diet before band
bigpapa2 replied to Hope4Joy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was required to be on a diet or have my weight monitored by my Dr. for 1 year. Luckly I had been in the Veterans Move on program for over 2 years. So i didnt have to start over again. I also now have to record all my workout to prove take I can workout over 30 minutes a day. Did anyone else have to prove that other than the PT test workout? -
I also wouldn't use the word "guilt" , I feel more ashamed than guilty. I have only told my wife and mother about the possiblity of getting the surgery. My mom was a little worried at first, but now understands that this just might be my last chance to lose the weight and if not the possiblity of having an early death like my father. I don't plan on telling anyone else about my surgery, including my children. I will probably use the same excuse, a cyst for the reason for my surgery. I understand the surgery is not the easy way out, but I don't think others would think the same. Being a man, you like to think you can do just about anything, but the knowledge that you can't do everything.

How quick were you able to start Mushy Food?
bigpapa2 replied to JayJay's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am freaking out now because my Dr. told me to start out with liquid for a few days and than go to mushy when I felt I could. He said every one is different and to take it slow and see what my body can and cant handle. He was very laid back about it...No per-op liquid diet just a low cal, low carb diet to lower the fat around my liver. -
Is your surgeon a general surgeon?
bigpapa2 replied to mommakatx2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr. is a general surg. also, infact this will be the 3rd. surgery he would be doing on me. I like the fact that he knows me and has worked on me before. He already knows my insides...LOL! I wouldnt fill comfortable with someone who doesnt know me as well as he does. -
Hi, I am new to this cite. I am filling out my patient profile for my pre - authorization paperwork for the lap band surgery. I have a lot of medical problems. I am worried that if I list all of them I might not be approved for the surgery. Are they going to have problems with me taking medication for Depression or Bipolar Disorder? I am seeing a therapist for these problems. Will there be a problem with me not being able to walk very far without difficulty. I have so many medical problems that I can't work out right now. I have just changed my insurance so I can have this surgery and hope to be approved within the next 3 to 4 weeks for this surgery. I was told my insurance authorizes the surgery in 3 to 4 weeks. Any one with answers or suggetions, please let me know.
