So im going to have an operation in the morning to fix my "candy cane syndrome". i had several attacks of pancreatitis and upon getting a scope done with my bariatric doctore, we found what was potentially the cause. Right where the stomach is attatched to the small intestine, my intestine has what was comparable to a bubble on a tire. A weak spot that has ballooned out. No getting past it , it has to be fixed before something happens. I had several bouts of bowel obstruction, followed by pancreatits. Talk about pain ! nothing can compare to the pain I experienced....Has anyone ever had any experience with this syndrome? what was your outcome? tell me about your experience...and don't you think that is one hell of a name for it?

NO Carbonated beverages- FOREVER!
lulubellhatfield replied to Lexington1020's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Im a newby to this group, here is my opinion...my doctor said to stay away from soda or carbonated beverages..that lasted for a year or two. I drink all diet soda's. Diet dr pepper is the worst. It seems the more you drink of it the more you crave it the more you drink of it ! terrible just terrible ! viscious circle ! I would honestly just like to break that addiction too ! so besides food addiction, there is the soda addiction lol ! Really if you are able to eat or drink in moderation you should be good. Anything in excess is bad ! -
Okay folks here it is..i had original surgery in 2002 January, had a revision three years ago..have had bouts of pancreatitis off and on which to my understanding can be fatal...had a scope done by my bariatric doctor. He said I had candycane syndrome. Said it is likely the culprit of pancreatitis attacks. So Monday I go in for that repair on my small intestine. My question is this....Has anyone ever experienced this syndrome? and did it get better after surgery to correct the problem? from what I have read it is relatively rare, and article says ninety four percent correction after surgery which is dam good in my opinion. Oh starting weight before original was five hundred, weight now is three fifteen.
