Hi Josh, Nothing came up b/c I had been on a liquid diet for 24 hrs prior to surgery and nothing by mouth for 12. I went through the motions of course. My incisions hurt afterward from the pressure of throwing up but that was about it. It did bring me relief from the nausea although it was only temp. My nausea lasted all day unfortunately. Iam now 3 days out and feeling great except the shoulder pain which will go away, eventually. Its not bad if you happen to get the dry heaves as I did. GOOD LUCK!!! Keep us informed Josh. OMG you only have 4 more days!

I too was banded 2 days ago and have severe left shoulder pain. I talked with the nurse who said it is normal b/c of the gas and should subside. I have 2 friends who had gastric bypass who both had shoulder pain and it lasted 2-4 wks. I have been moving my arm all around and doing exercises with just my left arm, and walking. It is helping somewhat but does require meds to take the edge off.
-
My insurance required that I stay overnight for my band. At first I was bummed but when I woke up from surgery I was EXTREMELY nauseated and was grateful that I was in there so they could give me the right meds. I can't imagine going home feeling as sick as I was. PLUS I had the dry heaves and was so scared that I did something to my band but my dr was there and said I was fine. I was released the next morning feeling great. The nausea subsided by 9pm that night and other than Iam sore and have left shoulder pain from the gas I feel good.

I was banded July 2nd. It went well. Woke up with EXTREME nausea, throwing up etc... NOT pleasant. But it subsided and Iam doing pretty good. The liquid phase isn't so bad, not missing food like I thought I would. My dr only does liquid phase for 3 days so tomorrow I start pureed/mushy. I can't tolerate Jello so Iam not sure if I can tolerate anything tomorrow. I plan on starting out on my Protein drinks. I've already lost 7 1/2 lbs! Pain is minimal. My left shoulder is really hurting from the trapped gas. Other than that I feel great. Iam so happy with my decision. I will keep you informed.

Lap Band Surgery Day Stories
annabella replied to pennyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 07-02-08. I arrived at 9:00am for my 9:30am appt. I was in pre-admission for a little over 2 hrs. The next thing I remembered is the nurses waking me up. I woke up with the most horrid case of nausea EVER. It lasted pretty much the whole day. Had it not been for that I would have been fine. It was extreme despite medication. I was so sick that I had to take ice chips for cotton mouth but had to spit them out as I was too nauseous to eat them. I had the dry heaves and got nervous about the throwing up but my dr said it was fine and my band would be ok. I was nauseous from surgery but what put me over the edge was the sticks with sponges on them that they swab your mouth with. THEY taste disgusting and made me throw up. At around 9pm that night it started to ease up. I went from ice chips to some juice and felt much better. I was released the following morning at 10am. I have been in minimal pain from actual surgery but the left shoulder pain is starting to get to me. Its very painful and hurts when I just breath. They said it would subside and Iam sure it will. I just hope its sooner than later. Iam not missing food like I thought I would. I have found I cannot tolerate anything like Jello or popsicles right now. So Iam drinking broths, diluted juices and Water. Iam not hungry although my tummy growls on occasion. Iam down 7 1/2 lbs already! The nurse said that it was fine that I couldn't tolerate them right now, she said just to try each day and eventually I would be able to tolerate them. My surgeon does not require 2 wks liquid so I start pureed/mushy tomorrow. I will try some things tomorrow like my Protein drinks and go from there. Iam happy with my decision to get the band. I know this tool is what I needed to get the 85 lbs off. Iam following their rules and feeling good. Now, if the shoulder pain would just go away I would be GREAT. -

annabella replied to lorimaxine9969's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Glad I found this post. I was banded 2 days ago and today the pain in my left shoulder started and wow is it painful. Other than that I feel fine. Pain is minimal, liquid phase isn't too bad, Iam not missing food like I thought I would. Its the pain in my left shoulder. OUCH. When they called to check on me today I informed them of the pain and they said it would subside. Banded 7-2-08 7 1/2 lbs lost!!!!!!! -

Anyone have Hypothyroidism that is currently banded?
annabella replied to ReiterDR's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I too have hypothyroidism and have been taking meds for 15 yrs. It doesn't matter if I was at my highest or lowest my medication needs didn't change with weight (Iam not banded yet but have been up and down with weight). I think its typical to go every 12 months to have a blood test and exam done to check your levels. 3 days till surgery!!! -
Change drs ASAP. You know your body better than anyone else. Lapband is NOT the easy way out and shame on her for not trying to encourage your decisions to better your life. Get to finding a new dr. You could try putting your foot down and say look either you work with me and help me or I will simply find a dr who will. It may change her mind??

WOW, my nutritionist said to eat 6 times a day. 3 meals with a snack in between each meal. Of course it was all healthy snacking like a string cheese, piece of fruit, etc... She said even if your not hungry to eat a lil something to keep your nutrients up.

How long before first fill?
annabella replied to lilnora2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told at my pre-op last week that my first fill would be 6 wks post op. Hope this helps. Keep us posted on your progress getting banded 07-02-2008 -
I agree with myturn, prepare prepare prepare. I know if I have good meals here to prepare I do, when the cupboards are low and Iam missing things its easy to say lets go out. BUY everything you need and have it all around. Hang in there, you don't suck. Old habits DO die hard. Keep trying.

It's my turn, i got my exact date of surgery!!!
annabella replied to ocbreeze4u's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
tottie, Don't allow those thoughts!! Each time you wonder if you will do this say, YES IAM GOING TO DO THIS!!!!!!!!!! It will work. You can do it, we all can. I had all my pre-op yesterday and all is a go. They gave me a wonderful book with hundreds of recipes for the liquid phase etc... I also found out yesterday that my surgeon thinks 2 wks of liquid after surgery is not required. Its 4 days then onto pureed for 4 wks. I have to liquid 24 hrs before surgery. 6 days to go. Iam so excited. I can't wait to get this 85 lbs off of me. Just think tottie, you will be 120 lbs less when all is said and done. Set 10 lbs goals for yourself and they will go by quicker than you think. -

I may have my period at the time of surgery.
annabella replied to ja4332's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is a good thought. I too will be on my monthly when I have my surgery in 9 days. AF is due in 7 days. I will let them know. My periods are painful so maybe the pain of my period will mask any discomfort from surgery, LOLOL -
Would You Wear a Mini-skirt?
annabella replied to Jennie1976's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I would. I like my skirts above knee but not too mini. I would do half thigh only. I can't take any credit for my legs but they are actually of normal size. It runs in the family to have nice shapely thin legs no matter how fat you get!! -
Me too, let me know when you need anything!!!!!! We are all here.

What is the rudest thing someone has said to you?!?!
annabella replied to auntlucy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was sitting in a restaurant with friends. I was the only one facing the 2 jerks Iam about to tell you about. It caught my attn that the man facing me kept saying "its a shame" over and over and louder and louder. I started paying attn to him and noticed he was starring at me. Then he said it again its a shame and the man whom he was with turned to look at me. I then watched him say to the guy, its a shame she is so pretty and fat. Iam a size 18 and although big I had never experienced ANY prejudice for my weight. With every bite I took he starred me down and shook his head with disgust. So when the gals suggested dessert I jumped on it. We decided to split a chocolate cake thing with syrup on it. I smiled at him and even winked at one point and starred at him with joyful eyes with every bite of cake. When we left they said what a shame what a shame what a shame as I walked by. I just laughed with my friends and left. My friends to this day have no idea what went on. It was hurtful but I wasn't about to let that jerk know. I later hoped he would choke the next time he was in a restaurant and die from lack of oxygen but I took it back (Iam afraid of bad karma) and wished him well and said a prayer for him. -
Glad I found you ! ! !

When it comes to attaching the ticker or anything else Iam not the gal for advice. LOL I have to learn that myself. I went to my seminar on March 24th. They discussed what you needed to have done. If you suffer from sleep apnea you had to have a sleep test done. I don't have that so I didn't have to do that. I had to fill out the paper work that was in my folder from the seminar. It was asking me what diets have I attempted over the yrs. I had NO idea of the exact dates so I made those up but all the diets I tried I did tell them about. I did have a psych evaluation done. My appt was April 10th and I was there for 3 hrs. I had to take a 600 question test and speak with the Dr. I got a phone call from the hospital where my surgery is being done saying my evaluation was there and everything was fine. In the meantime I had made appts with my pcp and nephrologist (I have hereditary kidney disease). My pcp (family dr) talked with me about the procedure and did her own pre-op testing and wrote a letter stating she thought I would benefit from the surgery. My pcp also had to send over records from 2003, 04, 05,06, and 2007 stating my weight. It was to prove I have been overweight for at least 5 yrs. My nephrologist also sent over a letter stating I would benefit from weight loss. I also was required to see a nutritionist. I made that appt and she too sent a letter on my behalf after talking with me. I had everything done by early May and after that it was simply waiting on the hospital to hear from my insurance company about my approval? They got the approval sometime last wk and that's when they called me to set up the appt. So all in all it was a lot of leg work and phone calls. I have read some people have to do a 6 month supervised diet, 1 and 2 wk liquid diets before surgery, etc... I guess it all depends on your insurance and their requirements. I say take YOUR time. I considered the surgery 2 yrs ago, only seriously the past 1 yr and in Jan decided it was what I wanted. I called in feb to make an appt for the seminar and got the March date. I stumbled on this website back when the surgery was only a consideration. I only joined a few months ago but I have been a loyal browser for a long time. I read the good, bad and the ugly. I remember a gal on here who said she was at the mall and got a soft pretzel stuck and spent an hr in the ladies room salvitating or sliming. I was like OMG, that COULD happen. Read it all and take your time. But be warned, when you decide its what you want, you can hardly wait! I have also been practicing on chewing food till you just can't chew it anymore. I also broke myself of diet pepsi. I was so addicted that without it I had migraines. I gave it up little by little and Iam now 2 months clean. LOL Now my surgery is 14 days away!!!
-
I hear that music too. 16 more days. YAHOO Hey Choromom, I too had to pay 15% of the surgery cost or up to 2,000! Of course the cheapest is 2,000. We had room on our flexiable spending acct so I put it on there.

Another July 2nd here. My pre-op testing is June 25th. Iam so excited!!! Did my seminar March 24th. I got the call last week for my date. YAHOO

Your welcome on the advice. I can sorta relate to your mother and all her sides at dinner. My parents are from Ky and VERY southern as you can imagine. My parents fed us kids quite a spread for Breakfast and dinner AND it was all fried. You'll get your surgery scheduled soon! I went to my seminar on March 24 and July 2nd is my surgery date so it took some time but it went by fast. You said you went to the seminar, are you still considering the surgery or have you decided to do it?
-
Hi Valerie, I finally got my call. I go on the 25th for pre-op testing and my surgery is July 2nd. I can hardly wait!! Gottaluvme, My husband and I talked about this very subject b/c we too enjoy eating out. We have friends that we meet at a local restaurant every single friday!!! When your past your 6 wks post-op and you are eating normal foods this is what we have planned. We will order 1 meal that we enjoy together and I will take my portion from his plate. He feels he will benefit from this as it will help him control his portions. Since I will have to chew chew chew my eating is slower and we will be eating "together". If anyone asks how come your not eating much or not ordering a full meal yourself just say "I had a sandwich not long ago and Iam still a bit full". You don't have to explain anything you don't want too. If the portions are small at a restaurant and or we are not in the mood for the same meal then I will just order a normal meal and leave the rest or take what I can't eat home for my kids or the dogs. I intend to make it work. YOU can too. I have decided its best to NOT tell any of my family members as they are too judgmental. If Iam there for a dinner I will fill my plate as usual and just eat what I can. No one really pays attn to what or how much your eating anyways. If I take normal portions, then no questions!! Now with all this said I just hope it works out. LOLOL Good luck
