  1. Hi everyone! My PCP suggested getting the VSG surgery this past Wednesday at my check up, so I'm waiting on my first appt in the mean time I've been doing a lot of research online about it and came across this forum, I'm so glad i did! The reasoning for the surgery is I have bad PCOS and highly insulin resistant, also have a heart condition i currently take two heart pills a day, pre diabetic, plus fibro. My family has a history heart disease, heart attacks, both my grandfathers passed away at young ages from heart attacks, my dad had one last year and so did my uncle. diabetes also run on both sides of my family and all the woman are over weight. I was always very tiny growing up, never had a weight issue until my late 20s when i started gaining for no reason and shortly found out i had PCOS, since then it's been a loosing battle. I'm 35, 5'3 and weigh 223lbs. I'm super nervous but excited. how long is the process from the time you're referred to surgery date generally? I was told i have to go to the first appt which is like a seminar where they show a video of the surgery and we discuss it, then i'll meet with a psychologist to make sure I'm mentally prepared, then a nutritionist. how long is the hospital stay? do they do it laparoscopically? for those of you that have had it done how was your recovery? i know every one has different time frames and experiences but I'm just curious. anyone else here have PCOS and has it helped? Thank you!
  2. I have struggles with this topic as well, so far my husband, my inlaws and a very very close friends knows. I don't feel like anyone in my family needs to know (not even my parents) because honestly i don't feel it needs to be shared with everyone without my consent and my family LOVES to talk and not in the positive way. so the less they know the better. I'm not ashamed of having the surgery I'm just naturally a very private person and if i were closer to my family i wouldn't mind sharing my journey with them at all. I think it basically boils down to your own personal situations and feeling and what works for you. I've read some pretty amazing stories on here and feel this is a great support group, I personally am more interested in talking to people who've experienced and are going through the experience of the surgery and understand what i may be feeling than trying to explain or have a conversation with someone who hasn't.
