I was banded 4 mos ago, and am considering working out with weights with my hubby. I've had several people say not to 'cause it'll slow down the weight loss. What have other bandsters found to be true? I know that it'll slow down POUNDS lost, but will add more muscle, which should burn more calories, etc. What do y'all think?

If it helps any---Dr. Schmidt in Pt Neches did my surgery at the new Med Ctr....he is wonnnnnnnnderful!!! Best bedside manner you could ever dream of, but most importantly a VERY respected surgeon here......I was one of his first ten patients.....and I am super pleased (and down 45 lbs-yeah!)

Okay fellow bandsters...what is the deal?!?! Got my second fill last Monday...finally felt what restriction is! Yeah!!!! So I bee-bop along in that heavenly feeling of "Losing weight--finally happening--wanna dance thru the streets cause I'm finally fell like I've had a surgery" --you know the feeling....then 3 days later, and still now,,,,can't tell I've even had surgery again...Nothing, nada...could eat a whole cow without chewing too much I believe...WHY IS THIS BAND SO PERSNICKETY???? Were those 3 days my one and only chance?? Sorry for venting, but so frustrated here I could scream.... -

Ha!! Then "persnickety" it is....I've had jobs I didn't give the kind of attention to that I do this band! I think the only weight I've lost (42 lbs since banding Dec 23), has been from regular dieting--I'm doing that 'cause I know everyone is expecting me to lose weight with my band. Now ain't that a psychological hoot! 42 is a looooooong way from goal.....it does me good though to see other replies that it could possibly restrict again on me... -

Thanks...it helps to know I'm not crazy (at least about the fill! )...I am just so disapponted...it was like a high for a few days....now I'm afraid I'm gonna gain back the few lbs I lost last week...We'll see.. -
Well, I called my doc's office and requested my first fill today(banded 12-05), and its on! I am like a ravenous cow wandering thru my home looking for grub! Pounds are up too...but....I'm very nervous after watching my hubby's first fill experience with his doc--(different docs)--he took 3 attempts, jabbed around and caused my big Harley ridin', never complainin' hubby to come off the table in much pain each time...baaaaaad experience...so,,,I want my fill, but am quite anxious(my doc is brand new at thist too)...well,,,I'm going thru with it cause its my only hope with this band,....sooo here goes!:faint:

As you know, I got my first 2 cc yesterday....I haven't felt a thing! Is that normal? I guess I was hoping for some great lap band fairy to come down and give me this awesome restriction, but nothing at all....oh well,,,I have read alot of posts here and it seems the first fill isn't always a life-changer....maybe it'll kick in in a few days.....((fingers crossed))

Well, I went for my fill...after several tries(no numbing--but my experience with that is that it usually hurts worse than the main pain)....no luck---just got back from the hospital where I had it done under fluoro...still took several jabs, as the port kept flipping around with the needle pressure...my doc is so soothing and has a great bedside manner, so, although frustrated and a bit scared, we got thru it...he gave me 2 cc...I had no prob with water, and he said go straight to a solid diet...I am a bit scared though...so I am here at the puter with my first food---chicken soup...gonna test the restriction, as I have never felt like I even have anything in me---so I dunno what restiction even feels like......thanks for all the thoughts....this board is a lifesaver.....

How soon can I return to work after Lap Band?
Charlee replied to DAA's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I took a full 5 weeks off. I'm a registered nurse, and have to be able to move patients larger than me, and also my shifts are a minimum of 13 hours each of non stop running. I was glad I have sick time built up, because I didn't want to take a chance while I was still healing inside. -
Well, I just love this thread, 'cause I see I'm not alone. I lost 19 lbs preop, but only 8 since surgery 6 weeks ago! I have my first fill tomorrow, but I am almost at the point of cancelling, out of embarassment to show my doc I've only lost three lbs since the postop visit 5 weeks ago. I'm walking around in shame, and I just hate that feeling! I'm dreading tomorrow like you wouldn't believe.

My hubby was banded November, and I was a month later. We figured from the start that the best way to succeed would be together. I was scheduled to be the first one, back on Sep 30th---but Hurricane Rita sent us evacuating for a month up to East Tx, so my original date came and went. So, after rescheduling after the hospital was repaired, we ended the year with both of us banded! He's lost 50, and I've lost 25. He feels restriction alot, but I have never felt any kind of restriction whatsoever. Anyway, that's our story! :thankyou:

Teresa, I feel your pain! :faint: I was banded 12-23 and my initial weight loss is slipping away with each new hunger pain. I am eating what I shouldn't and wondering, "Do I even have a band inside me?!?!" That first honeymoon week where I wasn't hungry fooled me--now there's no restriction. But hey! Tomorrow is a brand new day--gonna hit it again! We new bandsters WILL survive, right! Hope you are doing better!

Hi all! First time here-hope this is the right way to introduce myself. I was banded on December 23rd, and am absolutely excited beyond words! Have learned so much before surgery by reading this message board-lots of great people! Look forward to sharing this adventure together!

I was banded 12 days ago, and have been active since that first night. I have walked, gone to church, shopping, etc., and even hosted a previously-scheduled NY Eve party for my church class. I thought by being active from the "get go" I would really help myself recuperate well. Well, 12 days post op and I am now back to the couch for hours at a time, trying to find a position that doesn't hurt. My incisions are great,; and the pain is like sharp "catches" . Is this normal? No temp, no swelling, etc...just back to really uncomfortable again. Maybe just feeling the new hardware in there? Anyone else experience this?

Yes, it is right in the port vicinity....I'm back to stooping again! ....thanks for the reply..

Thanks so much! The surgery was the solid answer to prayer, so I know it'll work!
