Sleeved in DFW :-) replied to debra102364's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Depression is hard. I would not expect the surgery to cure it. The weight loss can certainly help but I would highly suggest getting counseling now and after the surgery to help you. Best of luck to you! -
Anyone else hiccup when they are full?
Sleeved in DFW :-) posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m 18 months out and still hiccup when I am full. I love that I have this physical cue to STOP. I’m hoping it never goes away. And a bit terrified that it will one day. Wondering if anyone else has this or had it and it went away? -

To Tell or NOT to Tell
Sleeved in DFW :-) replied to Jemma23's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Told my husband, my mom and my daughter. My mom has a big mouth and told my brother. His wife had RNY and lost A LOT more weight than me. I had VSG. I feel judged by both of them which sucks. Wish my mom had kept it to herself like she promised. Huge betrayal. Anyway, like someone else said, no one cared or asked how I got fat so why do they need to know how I lost it? If I had an abortion would it be lying to not tell anyone about it? Should I walk around saying “Hi, I had an abortion, that’s why I’m not pregnant any longer.” I find it ridiculous that some people on here say it’s lying not to tell people you had the surgery. That’s BS. I’m extremely private about all of my life and this is no different. I am 18 months post-op and I am so happy I kept it to myself and my immediate family. It’s my body, my business. I had 70 lbs to lose so my weight loss was fairly slow and that probably made it less obvious to others. I feel that telling people (when they ask) that I eat low carb, smaller portions, very little processed food and I do 50 minutes of cardio four times a week is an accurate description of HOW I lost the weight. Seems honest enough to me. But everyone is different. -

Starting weight 225 lbs
Sleeved in DFW :-) replied to Lovingmyselfforever's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Surgery weight was 229, I’m 5’6 and 46 y/o. It’s been 13 months for me since my sleeve was done. I now weigh around 170. I saw 168 last week for a day or two :-) I wouldn’t worry about losing too much. Did you say what your weight is now? You can always increase calories if it becomes an issue but I haven’t heard of anyone with that problem. I went from a size 24 to a size 12 and feel amazing. I would chose to do it again over and over. Very happy sleever. -

I wish you had taken the time to actually read this post. It’s 10 months old now and there is an update from me right above your post. That aside, wow. Your post is rude and unhelpful. I am so glad no one responded this way when I posted this ten months ago. I received so much love and encouragement, advice and kindness. I guess that is not your style. While others lifted me up, you chose to do the opposite. Quick piece of advice, if you are only eating 400 calories a day, you are going to have serious Hair loss and other issues with mal-nutrition. May be a good idea to discuss thoroughly with your doctor. Good luck to you. -

I’m the OP. I’m 10-months post-op now. I took @introversion advice and came to realize and then eventually accept that I am a slow loser. As of today, I am down 63 lbs. and have gone from a BMI of 38.3 to a BMI of 28. I am now classified as “overweight” and not obese. I went from a size 24 to wearing a 12 or 14 now. My average weight loss is 1.41 lbs weekly and my monthly average is 6.34 lbs. I no longer use a cpap machine and my plantar fasciitis is fine or in submission. All good non-scale victories. I wish it had been quicker. But we are all about instant gratification and I have learned to be more patient. I am 23 lbs away from my goal weight of 150 and I am 5’6. At my current rate it will take another 23 weeks to get there and that means I won’t reach goal until November which is 15 months after surgery. I just keep telling myself what @introversion has said on many occasions that there are slower losers and it’s not necessary a bad thing. Usually people who start with a lower BMI lose slower. Although I have seen people on here that have lost 30 lbs more than me and started at the same weight. It could also be my age (46 now) and the fact that I am on a medication cocktail for depression and have been for 20+ years. The other thing I deal with is that my weight can fluctuate 4-6 lbs depending on the day. I want to see it go down and never go back -up but that is not the case and some days I will go up 4 lbs and I start to worry again. I’m glad I had the surgery. I still get 60-80 protein a day and keep my carbs for special occasions. I don’t have problems eating any foods but I do feel my restriction and I am so thankful it is there. I hiccup when I’m dull and I know to stop. I pray it never goes away. Here are some B&A pics if interested. Thanks for asking how I’m doing. I really appreciate it. -
Weird that no one at work has commented on my weight-loss..
Sleeved in DFW :-) posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I started a new job 2 weeks after my surgery. I’ve lost 55 lbs in 8 months. I’ve been a relatively slow loser but my starting weight was 237 so I wasn’t a high BMI to start. I’m also 46 years old . Anyway, not one single person has said a word. I’m starting to think 55 lbs has not changed what I look like and while I did this for me and for health, it would be nice to have someone else at least notice. Is it just me or can you see the change too? "Get Busy Living or Get Busy Dying" Sleeved 8.21.2017 Age 46 Female HW 237 SW 226 CW 182 GW 150 Total Lost - 55 lbs -

What's your story if you are keeping it a secret?
Sleeved in DFW :-) replied to Gotalose's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was laid-off in July and took that time to set-up and have the surgery. Worked out weird that I needed to start my new job two weeks after having the surgery. It was fine I just tired easily. And although I have lost 40 something pounds everyone just knows I'm doing low-carb and that explains it. I also bring water but don't drink it while I eat. No one has said anything to me. I do push my food around a lot and really people aren't paying nearly as much attention as we think they are. August Sleevers - How are you doing?
Sleeved in DFW :-) posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
How is everyone doing? How much weight have you lost? (Along with height and surgery date please) I'm curious how everyone is feeling and what their days look like food-wise. As you can see in my signature, I am down 27 lbs since surgery. But 38 lbs including my 1 week pre-op diet. However, I'm angry, sad, disappointed and I feel like I'm failing. I haven't stuck to my program and have cheated multiple times.( Halloween candy is the devil) I eat what I am supposed to 90% of the time but I also find myself eating things I shouldn't. Today I ate a mini pack of m&ms. My office has candy and cookies out all day everyday and I am seriously thinking of finding a new job. I am so easily tempted and give-in almost immediately. I hate myself when I do. Anyone else struggling? Or am I alone and everyone else is just fabulous and losing tons of weight? Please "weigh-in". I would really appreciate hearing back from others. That sounds awful. I hope you are feeling better now but if not, please call your doctor again. This doesn't sound normal. Good luck! "Get Busy Living or Get Busy Dying" Sleeved 8.21.2017 Age 45 HW 237 SW 226 CW 200.8 GW 150 Total Lost - 36.2 lbs

Need Help. Where to find a support group?
Sleeved in DFW :-) posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor doesn't offer a support group. Or a nutritionist or dietician. I found an online dietician that I am working with but I desperately need a support group. Can anyone make recommendations or have ideas on how to find a support group if your doctor doesn't offer them? TIA for your help. CPAP after surgery
Sleeved in DFW :-) replied to sweetsleeveday's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I stopped using mine after losing 30 lbs. But I was what they consider low BMI of 38. I tried sleeping without it a couple nights and my husband said he had to poke me to make sure I wasn't dead b/c he said I wasn't making any noise or moving. Lol. But my sleep apnea was diagnosed at mild and I was only at a pressure of 9. Should definitely speak with your sleep doctor. Good luck! Wish I was having problems eating food
Sleeved in DFW :-) posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm nine weeks out. Have lost 36 lbs. (stats below) I have been hungry since post-op Day 4. I am able to eat anything I want, just not very much of it. Have had steak and salad and chicken and pork and ham and every vegetable and fruit I like. I've never had the "foamies", I've never thrown-up and I crave things I know I shouldn't have. Have tried pretty much everything except bread. If I didn't actually see my Sleeve every 4-6 weeks on the X-ray machine, I'm not sure I would believe I really had it. Only other evidence I have is I can only eat 3-4 oz of protein at a time which I know is good and is the way it should be. I just wish I would get sick when eating things I shouldn't. And I know I'm gonna get ripped on here b/c I have eaten things I shouldn't and I totally deserve it and almost welcome it. Anyone else able to eat without problem?
