Eating out for the first time
Sleeved in DFW :-) replied to Kathytej's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As this first lunch was two weeks after surgery and I was starting a brand-new job with brand new co-workers I didn't really want to discuss tummy issues with them. Lol. I went out last week and ordered grilled shrimp and veggies and did a fine job of eating a few shrimp and smashing my veggies. Whatever works. It's different for different people and I think that is why they were wanting different opinions. Makes sense I think. -
Eating out for the first time
Sleeved in DFW :-) replied to Kathytej's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you eating out with people who are aware of the surgery? If they don't know about it, I wouldn't suggest soup. I tried that it is was impossible to hide how little I ate. My new co-workers as well as two waiters kept asking me what was wrong and if they could bring something else. I'm five weeks out now and still avoid soup with people who don't know. It's a whole lot easier to order something "soft" and play with it and push it around and make it look like you are something. My 2 cents. Sleeve pain - 7 weeks post op
Sleeved in DFW :-) replied to TheWrensJourney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 6 weeks out and this is not something I have experienced. I do have pain in the chest/collarbone/neck but not in my stomach. I am in the same boat as you. My surgeon and his staff have not been helpful answering questions. But if you're in pain you need to let them know and if they don't care, you need to find a doctor that does. Even if that means going to the EE. "Get Busy Living or Get Busy Dying" HW 237 SW 226 CW 204 GW tbd -

Thank you so much! This was great information and very helpful. I wish I had been given an equivalent sheet. I didn't get much of anything :-( I wonder if something like that is available online... "Get Busy Living or Get Busy Dying" HW 237 SW 226 CW 210 GW tbd -

Three weeks out from VSG. I just ate an Oikos Triple Zero peach yogurt. It was 5.3 oz. I had no idea it was that much! I didn't look at the size until I was done. It took 45 minutes to eat it and I was sitting at my desk. Should I be worried that my Sleeve is already stretched?!! My doctor said I should be eating 2-3 oz at a meal. Please tell me what you think! "Get Busy Living or Get Busy Dying" HW 237 SW 225 CW 214 GW tbd -

Knowing when full
Sleeved in DFW :-) replied to cakes0329's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Exact same for me. Didn't feel full on liquids but man when I started to eat regular food there was no way to miss the restriction and the "full" feeling. I will have weird rumblings in my tummy and a small burp. At that point I know I'm D O N E. you are fine. "Get Busy Living or Get Busy Dying" HW 237 SW 226 CW 210 GW tbd -
How far out are you? I think most people/doctors do not consider lettuce to be a soft food. "Get Busy Living or Get Busy Dying" HW 237 SW 226 CW 210 GW tbd

That's a good point. I should be measuring out all my food. I guess I just thought a yogurt would be fine. Especially since it was Greek yogurt with no sugar added and 16 g of protein. My bad for assuming. Will do better tomorrow. Thanks for responding. "Get Busy Living or Get Busy Dying" HW 237 SW 225 CW 214 GW tbd -

hair loss after surgery
Sleeved in DFW :-) replied to jermic's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why can you only have a 1/2 of a Premier shake? Is that all you are allowed or is that all you can get down? I am 2 weeks postoperative and I drink 3 a day in small sips. Gives me 90 grams of protein. Add a Trusource water which is another 20 grams and I am at 110 grams. Hoping this will help recent hair Loss but who knows. 3 weeks post op
Sleeved in DFW :-) replied to Lowes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good grief. I'd say you are doing great. I am still napping some days (2 weeks out) and I didn't even have pneumonia. Give yourself time to heal and regain your strength. And be kind to healing your body. And try not to be so hard on yourself! You're doing awesome! "Get Busy Living or Get Busy Dying" HW 237 SW 225 CW 214 GW tbd -
Question bout incision
Sleeved in DFW :-) replied to Amy1234's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My largest incision is just above my navel too. I asked my doctor about it and he said that is the one they use to remove the stomach so that is why it is larger than the others. It's amazing how small they all are right? "Get Busy Living or Get Busy Dying" HW 237 SW 225 CW 214 GW tbd -
Protein drinks
Sleeved in DFW :-) replied to insul817's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I drink Premier a protein drinks. They each have 30 grams of protein! And they have a ton of flavors to choose. I buy mine at Sams Club or Target. They actually taste pretty decent and are very convenient. -
August Sleevers-How are you doing??
Sleeved in DFW :-) replied to Ash_Bri85's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sleeved 8/21 - Stayed one night in hospital. First few days were very unpleasant but they were over quickly and seem like a distant memory now (only 12 days ago). I have been doing really well with my protein by drinking two premier shakes and one bottle of trusource protein water. Those 3 things give me 80 grams of protein and I have reached my protein goal. Drink Crystal Light and Powerade Zero to get in my fluids. It feels like it takes me forever to drink things. Today I was allowed to move to soft foods. I ate a hard boiled egg mashed-up with a bit of mayo and celery salt. I had no problem eating it other than hearing all kinds of strange noises in my new tummy. I wasn't hungry again for 5 hours. Had 1/2 cup of refried beans with salsa. I had been worried about not feeling any restriction while on liquids only but let me say I can definitely feel it now with soft foods. Could only eat 1/4 cup of the beans before I knew I was full. I haven't been good about exercising. I sleep a lot and I think it must have something to do with the extremely low amount of calories I am getting. I'm amazed anyone has the energy to move. So good for you all! I am hoping now that I am on soft foods my calories will increase enough to provide more energy. I also go back to work this work and that will definitely prevent a lot of napping lol My other concern is that I have dealt with depression most of my adult life and I worry that is why I am sleeping a lot. I did have a few days right after getting home from the surgery where I was feeling very depressed and questioning myself and this decision. I think it was really more of me mourning the loss of comfort that food has provided. I find myself looking at food documentaries and food pictures and YouTube videos of others who have had this talk about food. I obviously have an addiction. It sucks because my doctor offers zero counseling, no nutritionist and no support groups. Good luck to everyone. Hope you are all on the mend! -
Post op struggles
Sleeved in DFW :-) replied to Twinks1008's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Happy to hear it! Mine itch so bad I'm wondering if I am allergic to them too. Will ask doc on Thursday. I tried drinking my Premier shakes 3 days post op and they did not sit well. Tried again yesterday, 7 days post-op) and it went down fine. Yeah! -

Hi Crystal. Glad to hear you are feeling good! I'm so jealous you get to start puréed foods today. You only had to wait 7 days after surgery? Totally not fair lol. I guess I shouldn't complain. Starting today I can have yogurt, cream soups and cottage cheese. Too scared to try any yet this morning but I'll let you know. Lol PJ -

I'm doing pretty good too. Stayed one night in hospital and was sent home late the second post-op day. Getting fluids in has been an all day job! I am drinking protein water b/c the shakes kinda upset my stomach and have caused some diarrhea. Makes it a little more challenging to get all my protein in. What is the next step for you? You're totally right. We all seem to have different post-op instructions! I am on full liquids until tomorrow when I can start milk-based very soft items like cream soups and yogurt and cottage cheese. Not sure how my stomach will respond to any of those since the shakes have caused diarrhea. Its little frustrating. Good luck to you! -

Thank you so much for this information Mimi! I really appreciate it and will definitely do what you suggested. I go see my doctor on Thursday but will call earlier if necessary. I'm sorry you are having such a hard time. Are you home now? I hope you are back on your way to a full recovery. PJ -

Surgery today! Prayers request
Sleeved in DFW :-) replied to Amy1234's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 6 days post-op and I still feel everything I drink. What's even more weird is the when I take medication, I can actually feel it go all the way down my esophagus and then plop into my stomach. At least that's what it feels like. So weird.
