Hi All. I am on my pre op diet and I'm allowed crystal light. Do you think I could just put some ice in the blender and put some crystal light in it and count it as a drink?

Well i tried it but my little blender is not powerful and couldn't do the ice properly lol. I have a Nitro Ninja Blender on the way by Thursday. I'll let ya know how that goes. I will say that the more water I drink the less hunger pains I have. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using BariatricPal mobile app -
Crystal light ideas

That's what I am thinking. It is not the caffeinated kind or anything. I am gonna mix one of my bottle packets with a small amount of water - then pour that over the ice and start the blender. Ill let you know if it is good, lol, My tummy is rumbling and liquid is all I can have tonight. -

Hi there. I start preop diet tomorrow. Does your doc have you on only liquids for two weeks pre-op? Mine is two Bariatric Advantage protein shakes per day - breakfast and lunch - and then a sensible dinner. One of the main reasons they do this pre-op diet is to shrink your liver. Many of us have fatty liver disease which in and of itself is a chronic liver disease - https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/nonalcoholic-fatty-liver-disease/symptoms-causes/syc-20354567 As you can see if you read the link from the Mayo clinic above it happens a lot to obese people. It is not something you want to have anyway so go with that. Don't let the insurance issue direct your behavior. You know that it will be good for you no matter what. Also, I wonder if they would let you get this far if they didn't have a good idea about the insurance outcome - just a thought. I'm no expert. Lastly, when we start to lose fat the first place it comes off is your liver. If you are having a abdominal surgery - especially laproscopic - docs want the fatty liver to shrink so they can see better and have more room for surgery. Either way you are improving your heath. I guess that is what I would hold on to. God bless. -

I have gone back and forth on my decision to have my surgery. I don't think we are alone in that. Only we ourselves can make the decision. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using BariatricPal mobile app

January bypass buddies??
Nancy Geoghegan replied to MsTipps's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Ok then , we are in it together. My surgery is 3 weeks on the 23rd. I have one more week of real food - won't over do it because I meet with the surgeon on the 9th and I'm sure he will weigh me lol. My preop diet is the liquid protein shakes for breakfast and lunch and then a sensible dinner. I was weighing in at 229 a few months ago but have been taking Vyvanse for binge eating disorder which is a stimulant (therapy as well) and also taking Saxenda which is a weight loss medication. Victoza is for diabetes and Saxenda is a double dose of Victoza marketed as a weight loss product. I am down to 206 now. I am doing the gastric bypass for a chance at health. I have been overweight since I was 5! I don't know what it is like to eat normally or even be thin. I am 54 and have diabetes type II, kidney disease, fatty liver disease, gerd, asthma, neuropathy in my feet, glaucoma suspect, cataracts, depression, anxiety and more. I take so many medicines it is ridiculous and borders on embarassing lol. I am praying that that this surgery and my good behavior will help me to be healthy for the first time in my life. I will remember you all in my prayers. Let us know how your surgery went and how your are feeling. -

Hi. I am approved by the psychiatrist, gastroenterologist, nephrologist and pulmonologist. It was a bit difficult with the psychiatrist but I asked if I could continue seeing him for a while to help with medications, etc. When he said that my meds wouldn't work after surgery that really concerned me. So, I got approved but have to work with the doc who prescribes my meds before the surgery. I will also do some research myself. We will be looking for the different forms of the meds - liquid, chewable, etc. We will also look at alternative meds to try if my meds stop working. Ultimately we must be our own advocates. Someone told me on here that really, he is a psychiatrist, not a bariatric professional. Therefore, I made an appointment for this Friday with the PA who works closely with my surgeon and I will discuss the meds issue with him. I will come back to this thread and update you on what he said. Talk soon. Nancy G.

Medications working after surgery
Nancy Geoghegan posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi All: I was told by my psychiatrist that my Cymbalta for anxiety and my Bupropion for depression will not work well or perhaps not at all after surgery. I was alarmed by this. I know you often can go off of meds like cholesterol, diabetes meds, etc. but these are necessary meds for anxiety disorder, depression, asthma and thyroid replacement therapy. During your post-op experience have any of your medications stopped working? Thanks! -
I too am worried about my medication afterwards. I have anxiety disorder and depression. It was difficult to get approved by the psychiatrist. I am worried about the anxiety more than anything. I need my Cymbalta. I'm going to talk to my PA who works with the surgeon this Friday.

Hi there. Yes, I am thinking the same thing. Only a bariatric doc would truly understand. I made an appointment with the PA who works with the surgeon for this Friday. Also, I am needing to lose about 70 lbs. Therefore I was told something about the surgeon not bypassing the intestines as much otherwise I would lose to much weight. Maybe there will be less malabsorption for me. I will add to this thread after I talk to the doc. Thanks! -
