How much are you eating?
Missy161 replied to TooneyNinosMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow- sounds like you are doing great. I have to really push to get 45 grams of protein. I only do 3 ounces of a protein shake at a time. Hw 223, SW 217 CW 200 GW 135 -
Stitched Muscle Pain- How long did it last?
Missy161 replied to AK_Bookworm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My incisions still occasionally hurt 3.5 weeks out. Yesterday they were really bugging me. I'm thinking I'll put some lotion on my abdomen- maybe just neosporin to be cautious - they're pretty healed but still itch and peel like they're pulling a bit. Hw 223, SW 217 CW 200 GW 135 -

Compression stockings in hospital
Missy161 replied to northstar9148's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the cuffs in my legs too- to prevent blood clots and the. Had to give myself injections for 2 weeks at home! Thankfully my lower belly is numb from 4 c-sections so it only hurt when the medicine started to burn after injection. Hw 223, SW 217 CW 200 GW 135 -
Weight loss doing great, but darn, I'm always hungry!!!
Missy161 replied to gwbicster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My bariatric coordinator suggested keeping a small cooler in the car with emergency foods in case you get stuck. I know we can always stop for a protein shake but having something solid to nibble that's in the plan sounds like a good idea. I used to do this for my kids when we had a super long carpool commute and it really helped us not overspend or overeat on the way home from school. When we'd stop at the gas station with 5 of us it would turn into $20 and too much junk food! Hw 223, SW 217 CW 200 GW 140 -

Yup? Diabetes is completely under control. Mind you, I never was on meds. Controlled it with diet and exercise, but now I don't even have to think about it. Hw 223, SW 217 CW 200 GW 140

I got some premier protein bars at Walmart today. I cut one bar into 4 pieces and ate it throughout the day. It dissolves very well with chewing. I got 61 g of protein today! The most ever! I am 3 weeks post op but have been released to try any new foods except raw veggies and nuts.

What are you telling people?
Missy161 replied to mom2lscw's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I told my husband 1 of my 4 kids my boss and 2 friends. My husband had rny 11 years ago. He wasn't telling anyone but immediate family and his dad and brother took it upon themselves to tell all extended family. He gets weird looks and comments like he did it the easy way. I wanted to avoid that. I told my kids I was having surgery in my bile ducts and also a haiatal hernia fixed (truth) and that I am on a physicians supervised weight loss program. -

Where do you purchase your bariatric vitamins?
Missy161 replied to LiveFreeOrDie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Amazon and natural grocers -
Sounds like you are having a good recovery so far. That makes all the difference. I hope it continues for you- it did for me!

Btw my highest weight was 223 217 on surgery day and 200 today

Not quite but my bmi went down and I hesitated but in the end I realized that I've struggled my whole life with weight. I've lost 30 pounds twice and then gained it back plus some. I ended up with diabetes and. Sleep apnea and my joints hurt all the time. I had the surgery 3 weeks ago and have lost 23 pounds since my first dr visit. Sometimes I have moments of regret, when I want to eat something. I can't wait until I'm another 20 down!

What was the biggest surprise for you at or after surgery? What do you wish you had known?
Missy161 replied to sunmeadow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wondered because the gas is trapped in the abdominal cavity rather than the stomach -

I just watched a video on YouTube and the gal said the gas x strips worked for her right after surgery for the gas. Wish I had known!!! -
Decision between sleeve and bypass??
Missy161 replied to SeaQuin's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'll add to to my prayer list! It will go well. There at so much fewer complications with the sleeve. -
Talk about the bums rush- that's awful. I needed every minute of the 3 days I was there. I think that set me up for a good recovery. Be sure to sip water. My nurse set 4 medicine cups out for me and said I had to finish them within 30 min I think. It really helped. Also a pillow held across your abdomen when you have to cough or move really helps. I hope you're doing better today. Do you have a good support system?

Yes, that taste is awful! I have had the worst morning breath since surgery! (3weeks out ). I hope that goes away!

You're lucky it was only 3 pounds! That is a shocker for sure - I totally forgot about the weight from the iv'a and was so sad when that happened to me - it drops quickly!

That is awesome!!!

My surgeon gave me a reprieve from the full 10 days in the liquid diet. I was in vacation for 2 weeks got home on a Saturday started the diet in Sunday and had surgery on Thursday. I had an amazing recovery (I'm 3 weeks out). Because I had a bmi of 40 and am a lower weight patient starting at 223. He said it would be fine. I had a really active vacation and didn't over eat in it I think it helped. Check in with your doc and maybe there's a modification to the liquid diet he would allow- like no sugar or low carb. Just a thought...
