Having trouble getting my daily protein
Missy161 replied to sylvia2017's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You need to find sources of protein or in about 3 months your hair will start falling out and you will end up malnourished. Have you tried protein water? I got it at Safeway and it has 15 g of protein in it. I was having a lot of issues as well until my nutritionist told me about losing my hair and now I make sure I get my protein no matter what! Protein bars, protein water, cheese, chicken whatever I can get down. Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 198 GW 135 -
I think 37 pounds is great. I had vsg on June 22 and have lost 25 which I think is average. My doc said. Like 20-25 the first month and 10-12 after that. My husband had gastric bypass 11 years ago. I don't remember how fast he lost weight but he lost like 80 pounds the first year- you're almost at half of that! Be encouraged. Track everything you eat and stick to your plan. Did you have vsg? How much have you lost? Many people do get stalls around 3 weeks out. I was sleeved 6/22 I've lost 25 pounds so far. None for like 8 days and 2 pounds since then. Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 198 GW 135

I don't really consider it cheating if I have a really small scoop of carb smart ice cream and then stop at that. You will need to decide if you can handle just something small like that. It really depends if you have an eating disorder (binge, addiction) or not. I got sugar free popsicles and eat them daily. I also got some sugar free candies and limit myself to 2 a day because the sugar alcohol can cause stomach discomfort. I had to completely cut off any kind of regular candy - chocolate was my nemesis. I won't eat that again. Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 198 GW 135

I think the rule of thumb is to eat every 3-4 hours- kind of like a baby :-) Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 198 GW 135

*month not Montreal- gotta love aitocorrect Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 198 GW 135

My dr told me to expect 20- 25 the first month and 10-12 per Montreal after that. It's not an easy fix- it is not easy. I'm almost 5 weeks out and I only hit 1000 calories on a day I ate extra empty calories. I'm usually 400-600. Not that that is the rule by any means. I'm eating 3 meals a day - 2-4 ounces per meal and usually one snack. I've had carb smart ice cream. Because I'm not willing to say everything I eat has to only be for fuel. I still want to enjoy food. I want. A healthy relationship with food though. I've set my new goal at 3 pounds per week through diet and exercise. I think we often come in with higher expectations that are realistic. I know I did. I originally thought 20 lbs per month, but that's not realistic for me as I started out with a bmi of 40. I'm down to 36 now. I think higher bmi's may lose quicker. Just stick to the plan and you will lose weight and you will feel better! I agree attitude is everything! Chin up! I went to my pcp yesterday. At nearly 5 weeks post op I've lost 25 lbs and I am no longer diabetic! Woo hoo! Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 198 GW 135

I haven't really been using my cpap and have generally felt good. My primary doc ordered an oxygen level overnight test to see if I can be done with it. I'm nearly 5 weeks out so we shall see!!! I'm going back on it tonight because I was so tires this morning, but I think that's from working out yesterday. Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 198 GW 135

I went to my primary doc yesterday. Sleeved 6/22- 25 pounds down. A1C is now 5.4- which is normal!!!! The weight loss also isn't as fast as I expected but I think I had unrealistic expectations. It took time to put it on it will take time to get it off and hard work. Worked out yesterday on my own. Lots of sweat felt good. I was so tired today though, I'm guessing from the workout. I need to get on a regular workout schedule so it's not such a chore to get to the Y. I can't wait until working out energizes me rather than wearing me out. I set a goal today of 3 pounds per week- does that sound realistic? Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 198 GW 135

I went to my dr yesterday- I posted about it in the fifties forum - my doc says my diabetes is gone and one more normal A1C and my diagnoses will be deleted. That's with just 25 pounds down and a low carb diet! Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 198 GW 135

Totally normal. I am almost 5 weeks out and had a stall that lasted about a week. Back on the losers bench now Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 198 GW 135

What was the biggest surprise for you at or after surgery? What do you wish you had known?

I would talk with your doctor. Mine was tender but this sounds like complications to me. Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 198 GW 135 -
As someone above mentioned some cleaners may take in items inexpensively. Just a thought for some of your less expensive items. Good luck- yes it's a great problem to have! Thankfully I have a lot of items I couldn't part with front he last time I lost weight so I have clothes from size 12-16. I have a great friend who had a lot of professional high end clothing that she gave me size 16-18- I was a large 16, 2xl tops when I started and I'm already giving away the larger clothing and moving into some of my regular 16's. Today I am wearing a blouse that I loved but only had worn a couple of times because the arms were too tight. It feels very good I can't wait until I can pull out my 14's! 25 pounds down today! Or a clothing swap! Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 199 GW 135

How about a seamstress to take in the clothes - there are many reasonable ones out there. Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 199 GW 135

Has anyone kept their surgery a secret?
Missy161 replied to kcvasquez's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
In my family I've only told my husband and one of my kids. I've told about 4 friends and that's it. I didn't tell my inlaws because my father in law doesn't respect boundaries. When my hubby had RNY 11 years ago he told his parents and brothers and no one else. They all broke that confidence and the entire extended family and some friends know. My husband feels like he gets odd looks and judgements like he took the easy way out. This is mist definitely not the easy way out! Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 199 GW 135 -
I totally agree with you. There are some charts out there that take into account gender and body type. Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 199 GW 135

Old clothes? What did you do?
Missy161 replied to AZBlackhawk's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think a clothing swap would be fun. I thought of organizing one at my work- I work at a ministry with over 1000 employees. Just fount the items you bring in and walk away with that many items. Donate any unswaped clothing to another local ministry. Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 199 GW 135 -
I've heard that carbonation will stretch your sleeve but I don't know for sure. I watched some YouTube videos and one woman swears it's why she had to have another surgery. I'd just do whatever your doc says. Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 199 GW 135

I was on obesity help and you would think that genepro is worthless. I got so much shade on that site I deactivated my account. I am amazed at how much nicer this site is even when people don't agree they have been respectful. I'm going to do some more research on genepro and will let you know what I find out Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 199 GW 135
