Anyone go to the hospital alone?
JitterbugPerfume replied to EsoKev's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my husband drop me off. The hospital clearly found it odd - they asked who was there with me a few times. I was fine with it though, I would've felt awful making someone wait 6 hours for me to go through prep, surgery, and waiting to wake up. -
What are your restrictions? Purees?

Tiny red bumps on belly
JitterbugPerfume replied to AngelaZ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
An ice pack is really helpful as well if the itching comes back. I think I would've torn my skin off from scratching if I didn't have the ice packs. -
Gas and walking post op
JitterbugPerfume replied to amisoup's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, I can't believe this wasn't a question I'd had before surgery - the way people talk about it, it sounds like this would be the case!! I didn't pass any gas while walking though. Also, I was in a unit with people recovering from all different surgeries. I don't remember crossing paths with any patients. -
Buyer’s remorse 4 days after surgery
JitterbugPerfume replied to Gundy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorey to hear you're feeling so badly right now. I had a ton of nausea and vomitting in the hospital for the first day and a half. I was being rotated through zofran, reglan, and Benadryl until I was discharged (end of 2nd day post op). I was sent home with reglan, which I think I needed for another 2 or 3 days. After the nausea subsided, I felt soooo much better. Are either of the meds you mentioned for nausea? If not, I'd call your surgeon and ask for zofran or reglan - no need to suffer if there's a way around it. Hopefully you're over the worst of it though! -
Might be cancelling Surgery. Given the choice would you do it again?

Good luck on May 10!! Sorry to hear your co-workers were so crappy about it. Hopefully they meant well - but it seems like they don't get it. -
so confused about calories!
JitterbugPerfume replied to Borocountry's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My pre-op diet was eat healthy, and clear liquids the day before surgery. Post op I had 1 day of clear liquids, then a week of full liquids. During that week, I had two protein shakes per day at about 160 cals each, and occasionally some soup. -
How Good are You about Not Drinking While Eating?
JitterbugPerfume replied to Beck90's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know this is an old thread - but in case anyone else is worrying, I have had no issues with this, and I'm usually a huge drinker at meal times. I've found that I am not eating enough to need to get my throat. The only times I've drank close to meals is when I've been distracted and absent-mindedly had a sip after eating. -
Tiny red bumps on belly

It could also be related to the liquid they use to prep you before surgery. Some people have reactions to it. I didn't get itchy until about a week out. -
Thatlooks and sounds great! I can't wait to get to that stage!

What now???
JitterbugPerfume replied to midsummersleeve82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Once I had all that stuff done, I had to have an EKG, an appointment where I drank a barium drink and they checked out my stomach, then I needed an endoscopy because of those results, and finally I had to have an appointment with my PCP to get the OK. But awesome job getting all the hard parts done! Best of luck on your journey. -
I've been told to wait until 6 weeks. I've done some light, beginner yoga on crappy days though.

Yes, I used that too. Blue bottle with a pink/red liquid. I used the same soap before my c section.

There's nothing wrong with you. It's them. You've ended up with 2 insecure, manipulative, and possibly emotionally abusive guys, and that absolutely sucks. There are tons of people out there who would love to be with someone who is healthy, working hard, and wants the best for herself!

How much, how fast? WEIGHT LOSS
JitterbugPerfume replied to baribetty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't mind at all! That's what we're all here for, right? I was 233 or 235 on surgery day (I'm pretty sure the scale said 233, but at my first post op appt, they said my surgery weight was 235). Bmi was 42 and change. Ive been pretty active. I aim for two 1-mile walks per day, and I also try to remember to get up and move around (stretch, do the dishes, a couple laps in the house, whatever) every hour or so. I have two little kids, so on the days I don't get out for a second walk, we do plenty of running around outside in the yard. -
One of the things that was stressed during my pre-op classes was the need to get to a place eventually when we are only eating when hungry, and stopping when full. We were told that we might not get the hunger signals post op, but we should definitely stop eating when we are full. I very rarely feel like eating. I don't just mean that I don't get very hungry, but I have a full feeling that puts me off from food. I make sure I eat purees at least once or twice a day, but I've only down more than that once or twice. How do you balance that direction to stop eating when you're full, with the direction to eat 3-5 times per day?

Stop eating when full?
JitterbugPerfume replied to JitterbugPerfume's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks. I'm totally fine on my water and protein, meeting goals every day. I guess I just thought it was important to eat regularly at this stage, because it was stressed SOOOO much during pre-op class, that I thought it was important for the way we heal or something. -
expected weight loss
JitterbugPerfume replied to saramelie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started out with a 43 bmi, 42 on surgery day. I'm 3 ½ weeks out and have been losing about a pound a day. My friend, who had a similar height/weight (40 bmi on surgery day) lost most of her weight in the first 6 months, then got down to 115 by the time she was a year out. However, she had some plastic surgery to help her when she was 9 months out, so some of that weight loss is probably due to the removal if excess skin. I think your goal sounds realistic, as long as you are determined to stick to your plan. Good luck! -
Keeping Track
JitterbugPerfume replied to Melissa Cad's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a 24 oz water bottle, and I just aim to empty it at least twice a day. I'm still on 2 protein shakes per day, so that pretty meets the protein requirement for me. -
How much, how fast? WEIGHT LOSS

I'm 3 ½ weeks out, and I've lost about a pound a day so far. I know it won't last, but I will enjoy it while it does! -
1 Week Post Op-Frustrated
JitterbugPerfume replied to Mnhcb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This! When I gave birth to my son (9 lb 13oz), I figured I'd have lost about 10 lb. Nope! I was the same weight, with swollen extremities from all the fluids they pumped into me. I didn't weigh myself for 5 or 6 das when I got home from my sleeve surgery, so I don't know if it went them same this time around. -
I’m scared - What would you have told yourself one week before surgery?
JitterbugPerfume replied to baribetty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would tell myself to calm down, because it is so worth it - and that I think the nurse and nutritionist I'd been working with just like scaring people, because NOTHING has been anything close to as they described. -
Cinco de mayo/easter food ideas!
JitterbugPerfume posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there! I am currently 3 ½ weeks out from vsg surgery. I'm going to a big party next week for cinco de mayo/Easter (weird combo, I know - but we didnt see each other on Easter!). I want to bring an appetizer or side that fits with one of those themes that I will be able to eat. I will still be on purees, and I'd like to bring something that isn't spicy. Any ideas?- 3 replies
