  1. Looking for either a buddy or a mentor. I would love to exchange experiences with someone. I just had my surgery on July 7th.
  2. I cannot imagine 1 oz of milk being satisfying. My surgeons diet plan for a meal instructs to eat 2-3 oz of soup for a meal. This is ridiculous! That is 2 or 3 sips. Even now post op 1 week that does not in any way fill me up.

    Liquid phase postop

I was advised to do 1 week clear liquid and 1 week full liquid. It is hard. I never realized how much food fill's ones life. I don't even mean in an addictive sense. Just planning, preparing and sharing daily meals. I miss it. There is definitely some joy missing in my life. I am trying to stay focused on the big picture. That this is a small blip on the scale of things and there will be more normalcy.

    Early Post-Op Eating

Fluids move through us much faster than food. Starting day 2 or 3 I can sip about 6 oz in 20 minutes without any problems. But every body is different in what they can tolerate. I would be worried about not getting in enough fluids and want to speed it up a little.
  5. Is this normal? I am day 3 post-op and I weigh 4lbs more than on my surgery day.
  6. Thanks for the input everyone. Yeah I understand, plus I drink about 3 cups of veggie or mushroom broth everyday and even the low sodium stuff has a lot of sodium in it. I just crave savory flavors so much.
  7. I appreciate everyones honesty here. When I have a craving to "chew and cheat" I try to think about how much my inflamed stomach needs this rest to heal. I have 5 days to go before I can go to full liquids. I am excited to have some cream and bean based soups.
  8. I am on day 10 of pre-op diet. Clear liquids only for the last 3 days. Yes I want to tear my hair out. It is not easy. I just keep telling myself that I can choose to break the diet anytime I want - BUT then I have to cancel or postpone my surgery. So following the diet is MY CHOICE! Thinking of it this way feels more empowering. Having a choice is empowering. Good luck!

    Surgery Tomorrow

I'm going in tomorrow too! Let's all check back here when we can. I want to know how all the other July 7th'ers are doing!!!! I'm using Dr Lopez in Tijuana Mexico.
  10. This pre-op clear liquid diet has been so difficult but I am doing it. I have only had to do 3 days of clear liquids and to me that alone is VERY difficult. I am in awe of those who have to do clear liquids for a longer period. I quit smoking at the same time I started my pre-op diet so it is taking some fierce strength to get through this. I am dreaming of bacon and eggs, lol, and a cigarette. So I am crossing the border into Mexico tomorrow morning to check into the hospital. I live in San Diego so a self-pay Mexico operation is very convenient. I am scared. I have done my research but I am still nervous as I have never had internal surgery. Thankfully my wife will be with me. I will be back home on Monday. I made the decision to have this surgery 3 weeks ago so everything is moving very fast. I appreciate reading the many posts here. It has helped me learn so much, be positive and not feel alone. Thank you everyone!
  11. I am on 3 days of pre-op clear liquids. It says I should have whey protein shakes mixed with water. I am using Muscle Milk brand. It is not clear or translucent when mixed with water. Is this okay?
  12. My surgery date is July 7th in Tijuana. I am going through ALOBariatrics with Dr Lopez.
  13. I am only doing a 3-day clear liquid diet after 7 days of 2 shakes and 1 meal of protein/veggie diet. I am MISERABLE! I am on day 2 of clear liquids. I hope this isn't what the 2 weeks of post-op liquids is going to be like. You all sound like you are doing much better than me. I'm doing it but not a happy camper. BTW, I am also quitting smoking at the same time. NOT EASY!

    Hi Im Jax777

Lynne5767 your response is wonderful. Thank you for taking the time to write out such a thoughtful, caring response. It got me all motivated and I haven't even had my surgery yet. LOL. Jax you can do this!!! If I encounter problems I am going to go to OA (overeaters anonymous).
  15. Hi Tita. I am getting my surgery done on July 7th so we are close in date. I too have never had surgery before and am pretty nervous. I just keep thinking about the low, low, low complication rates. I'd bet it compares to the chances of being struck by lightening. LOL.
