  1. Did any one just stop sharing their progress with people they know because of their reactions? I told my mum about my BMI victory and she said “b***h” her tone dripping with jealousy. She then asked me how much I weigh now and when I told her she said “f*ck you”. Once again with a jealousy and honestly a little pissy tone. it hurt (I could feel myself mentally and emotionally recoil) and honestly makes me not want to share my progress with her any more. Even if she meant it jokingly (but seriously the jealous tone was there) it was still hurtful. I know others have dealt with this sort of thing. How did you handle it? My mother is the kind of person where if I try to talk to her about the effect it had on me she’d get defensive and make herself into the victim (she does it every time someone tries explaining to her why something she said or did was wrong. She acts like a spoiled emo teen).
  2. My BMI is officially out of the BMI range! It was 29.2 when I did my weekly weigh in ❤️ I won’t lie, my recovery has been super hard and a part of me regrets the surgery because of all of my complications. But hopefully if I keep losing I’ll see it al worth while
  3. I’m no braggart. This was the first time I shared unprompted about my progress except for with my boyfriend, counselor and the bariatric groups. I kinda figured since she’d asked several times about my progress she would have been happy for me...... pretty much what you guys are saying is just don’t tell any one and refuse to talk about it with any one. It’s kinda bullshit if that’s how we have to behave. Why can’t our loved ones just be happy for us?

    Not Eating Enough

No prob it’s what my nutritionist suggested to me when I saw her a couple of weeks ago. I’m going through the same thing as you with eating. I try not to graze because it’s a bad habit but sometimes I just can’t eat an actual meal. Just like one or two bites here then an hour later another bite lol

    Bi polar meds

Those conditions won’t stop you from qualifying. I have osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, depression, PTSD, insomnia, anxiety and PCOS and I still qualified. Mind you after surgery I couldn’t tolerate my fibro medicine Savella. Which sucks because I can’t take the other meds approved for fibro

    Not Eating Enough

Honestly most of the time I view eating as a chore. I started tracking my food intake with Baritastic so I could make sure I meat my goals. Try setting a timer a few times a day to eat. Do like 4 or 5smaller meals a day instead of 3 “big” ones. It might be easier on you.
  7. Typically if someone has teeth problems after surgery, it’s due to vitamin/mineral deficiency. Our tummy absorbs stuff differently now. If you start noticing teeth issues have your levels checked

    Bi polar meds

Geodon was super hard on my tummy. My dr switched me to Wellbutrin XL. Latuda is also a good option if you’re far enough out and can eat 300 calories for a meal
  9. Dumping syndrome while uncomfortable, I actually find to be a good thing. It’s a great way for your body to make sure you stay on track with your diet lol. It happens if you eat too much sugar and doesn’t typically last long when it happens. As long as you follow your doctors dumping shouldn’t be an issue

    ONEDERLAND peeps!

Congrats and welcome to Onderland! It sounds like you and I are pretty similar in our starting stats. Though it sounds like you’re taller than me (going by what size you wear with what your weight is compared to what size I was in at that weight lol) keep up the great work! You’ll hit that goal in no time. I have about 30lbs until what’s considered “normal” weight
  11. I wouldn’t recommend them. Most protein pills are only 1g of protein each. That would end up being a super expensive way to get your protein in. Depending on your stage there’s many options. On days where I have a hard time tolerating solid food I’ve found I can eat quest protein chips (the tortilla style ones). 21g protein per bag (they’re small bags similar to the bags of chips you buy for like $1.50)
  12. Before surgery I was diabetic, now though (almost 8 months post op) I keep having my blood sugar drop. The other night it went down to 26. I have no idea how I made it from my apartment down to my mothers to get something sweet from her without collapsing

    nausea 1st time

It could just be too early. Stick with soft foods for now. At 3 weeks I was mainly turkey chili (cooked in a slow cooker all day), eggs and cheese
  14. Trust me, I know it’s cause for concern. It’s the lowest my sugar has ever been and we have no idea how I managed to make it to my mothers. I have contacted my dr, they want me to set up an appt with my endocrinologist. I haven’t been on diabetes medicine since before my surgery (was taken off them back in February 2020) this time happened around bed time. It’s weird. My sugar was 150 about an hour before hand (I’d stolen one of my boyfriends bbq wings). Then when I was getting ready for bed and decided to check it again to make sure it was going down. I double checked when it said 26. Managed to get down to my mothers, ate a couple of cookies and got it up to 44.
  15. I recommend fairlife core power or muscle milk. They’re the only two I can tolerate
  16. Talk to your nutritionist. See what they say. I steal a couple of pieces of my boyfriends popcorn every now and then and always avoid the kernels (I think kernels are the main concern with popcorn).

TMI 3wks post op and diarrhea

Are you on soft foods yet? If so try cheese it can help stop you up too. My guess is too much miralax. I’ve noticed that I can’t take normal doses of a lot of meds since surgery (I’m 8 months out). Heck I still have to take children’s Tylenol lol. Also get some chewable pesto bismol. I keep some on hand all of the time
  18. Ok so my sister is having a few of us over for a Halloween party since she’s not taking the kids out trick or treating. She’s making the usual sugar filled party punch. naturally this isn’t something us bariatric patients can have, so I want to make a bariatric friendly punch to take. Any ideas?

    Skipping Purees

My stomach suddenly decided to reject solid food. They did several tests and could find no actual problem (such as stricture). Everything I ate would cause severe cramping and vomiting. My pcp that works with the bariatric program lovingly refers to me as a difficult case
  20. I guess I should’ve been more specific. I am not looking for brands of fruit punch. I am looking for bariatric friendly recipes for a party punch.

    Clothes during Weight Loss

May I ask what size you’re down too? You can try looking at places like goodwill. Right now I can get jeans at Walmart for $10 so that helps

    Shaky, weak and tired

Add carbs. Try for healthy carbs though like fruit. I usually grab some berries or something or even a protein bar.
  23. It sounds like dumping. Unfortunately there’s no strict rule about what can cause dumping and what can’t lol it’s all about learning the hard way. If it happens again just lie down for a little bit. Is also recommend getting some dissolvable zofran from your doctor for those occasions too. It’s been a life saver for me

    Vomiting

Honestly it could be either. Eating too much too fast can very well make you sick. But then so can a food you don’t tolerate. I personally can’t tolerate beef and sometimes pork. It does anything from make me cramp, to make me puke. have you ever eaten the pork carnitas from that restaurant? It could also be something in the sauce.

    Skipping Purees

My nutritionist has us skip purée and go to soft food. Idk if it was a good idea though. At 6 months I was back on the soft food and liquid diet for almost a month. Now at almost 8 months I’m being put back on it again. I can’t help but wonder if it would have been better to do the purée stage
