    Food Before and After Photos

Ooooh very nice, I used to make so many naked/lettuce wrapped substitute sandwiches. I look back at that time fondly. Bread? Who needs it when you can be this creative. ❤️

    GERD after VSG

Hot topic! Watch Dr. Weiner discuss GERD after VSG:

    When to measure food

Not very scientific but I usually over estimate then use the highest calorie version when logging. It was easier to do this by dry volume vs weight. https://www.cacfp.org/2023/11/14/fundamentals-of-measuring-weight-and-volume/#:~:text=Knowing the difference between weight,or mass of an item. For accuracy you could use containers , tare the scale and do that for each item. Also I always weighed the food cooked (or raw for things eaten raw like veg and fruit).

    PostOp week 2…craving coffee

Coffee wasn’t restricted for me after WLS but I absolutely used the protein shake as creamer work around daily. It was the absolute best option to make sure I got all the protein I needed because coffee made me have even less of an appetite.

Look at that piercing gaze! 🤣 Why do I have a feeling that Kitty has eaten more salad than me this year.

    Trapped gas or something else?

I agree with @ShoppGirl, after WLS surgery I would never try to self diagnose/treat any abdominal pain. The risks are too high. If there is any sudden unexplainable turn for the worse, please see let your team know immediately. I hope you feel better soon.

    Scar tissue

I had A LOT of scar tissue (according to the surgeon) that needed to be removed during my conversion from VSG to RNY. It made the surgery longer but not unsafe to perform laparoscopically. It’s likely up to each surgeon and their skill/safety levels. If you can, ask the surgeon what exactly “open” vs laparoscopically would mean in terms of outcomes, recovery etc.

    GERD after VSG

I love that he updates his practice with current research and never makes weight regain a moral failure.

Doing Great but I'm an Alcoholic

GLP-1 receptor agonists are now being studied for alcohol use disorder so that maybe an option for our population. https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2023/08/28/1194526119/ozempic-wegovy-drinking-alcohol-cravings-semaglutide https://www.niaaa.nih.gov/news-events/research-update/semaglutide-shows-promise-potential-alcohol-use-disorder-medication https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10371247/

  16. I am firmly behind using every tool at your advantage to tackle regain: Tracking portions, exercise, joining a support group, checking in with your previous or new weight management team and use of the new anti obesity medications.

    Pain skin removal

Yes it hurts, a lot. All the people on social media (and in real life) seemingly recovering at lightning speed are using traditional pain medication. No one talks about it because it’s pretty much implied. Speedy Recovery!

    Pain skin removal

This was planned with your surgeon? Were alternatives like nerve pain meds discussed?

    Pain skin removal

Plastic surgery recovery is rough and the only way I managed was with medication. What is your pain management plan?

    Almost a year out

I’m a few years out so I have a little bit of perspective. I think staying consistent in a sustainable way is the key. Inly commit to drastic changes you can see yourself continuing 5-10 yrs later. It’s the only thing you can really control, everything else happens on a biological level. Also try to avoid diet/lifestyle creep. Special occasions diets (birthday cake, peeps, royal icing cookies, apple pies, stuffing and pies, gingerbread houses, eggnog etc) should stay where they belong. Don’t do it all of the time. There’s always going to be special occasions but they don’t have to derail months worth of progress (l’m looking at you November/December!). Congratulations in advance on your surgery anniversary ❤️
