  1. In my programs it was recommended to wait for 6 months for bread and raw vegetables. But I think it was a year to never again for alcohol 😂
  2. I can try to answer this since I have both. No. Not for me. It’s has been a completely different type of Satiation. VSG was an immediate forced hard stop because of pressure/tightening/pain where you might still feel hungry or wish you could eat more but physically cannot. With RNY there is the feeling of disinterest or boredom with eating. I *could* eat more but I don’t want more. And I feel full lower in the abdomen vs higher in the chest (VSG). If you are chasing restriction, you may be disappointed. But this is only my experience. Ask around to those that had both procedures to gather more opinions. I hope that helps.
  3. Why suffer?

Useful video. Some patients seem to feel the need for "repentance for past sins" by suffering.

    Ideal vs Best body weight

I came across this video on a surgeon’s perspective on how to set weight goals after WLS. Thoughts? Experiences?

    Food Before and After Photos

Couscous, vegetables and chicken tenders … courtesy of an air fryer and tea kettle (blanched the vegetables, steamed the couscous) because that’s how little cooking I want to do these days. The chicken tenders are the Just Bare brand which are pretty good (but slightly too salty for me). I ate less than half but will finish the rest later.

    Food Before and After Photos

I never got full after 5 bites unless it was a protein that was on the drier side. Also at only 5 weeks post op you may not have full sensitivity or recognize your full warning yet. Definitely eat a bit slower and measure everything. Good Luck ❤️

    Sleeve revisions

    Slightly less painful for me!
  13. Hi! I was sleeved in 2017 and converted to bypass in 2019. 1) Your reasons for conversion from the sleeve to bypass. I wish I did the revision as soon as my symptoms started (GERD) Instead of waiting couple years but I didn’t understand that I was actually experiencing GERD. I just kept trying to rework my diet to see if the symptoms never occurred to me it was something that I could not fit without surgical intervention. 2) What was the post op period like compared with sleeve? It was a easier than when I was sleeved, I don’t know why but I’m grateful 3) What is the best and worst part of having the bypass? To me the bypass is almost exactly like having sleeved, I can’t tell the difference Until I remember the difference in restrictive feelings during eating. With a slave restriction was high in my chest almost near my throat. With the bypass I feel the heaviness disinterest in food. Some days if I eat and dryer proteins source (like grilled chicken breast) I can feel both types of restrictions. 4) Any dumping issues? Yes I do experience dumping although it’s well managed now. I do have a few additional food restrictions than I did it with the sleeve. I cannot eat really sweet things. Or if I do it is literally one bite and I’m done. I rather not feel terrible over food if I can prevent it.

    Ideal vs Best body weight

I totally understand, BMI and weight on a chart looks so different than on various people.

I also thought that was not going to be the case for everyone, it certainly didn’t work that way for me. Glad to know I’m not alone.

    Feeling kind of devastated…

You are very early post op so don’t worry, yet. The main focus at this stage is to watch for signs of infection, seroma, hematoma, embolism and to make sure your wounds heal properly. Definitely have a conversation with your surgeon and ask him about your current cup size and what are the next steps if you want “more”. BTW, Congratulations

Should be a sticky. Same with Dr. Weiner's video on changing portion sizes after surgery. It's unbearable how so many teams don't seem to educate their patients that growing portion sizes are normal?!

You look lovely ❤️ Yes spring is here! The birds are all actively mating or nesting (loudly), the bugs are biting, plants are vining and I have the urge to wear pastels again.

    Need to start over. Ugh

Personally I would track calories very carefully for a while to see how much I’m actually consuming and make changes from there. Then I would clean my kitchen and pantry. Put not so great choices further away and easy substitutes in plain view (reg calorie snacks vs 100 cal pre portioned snack bags, reg salad dress vs lite version, reg bread vs low carb bread) Next I would really consider giving up liquids with calories the majority of the time, except a slash of cream for coffee/tea or the occasional protein shake. Last I would begin to make simplified versions of my favorite meals with less calories but more flavor. (These are all things I’ve done for myself or to help friends) Good luck, you’ll do well!

    Food Before and After Photos

I’ve always made them from scratch. But I never made whipped style only, rustic smashed potatoes. When I’m in a hurry for them to cook I will peel and dice the potatoes . If I can spare the time I only peel them. Lazy days I go prep free andI cook then skin on and peel once cooled. I once had box potatoes and could immediately taste something off (I now believe was powdered milk) and I did not like the flavor.
  23. I’m sure it has something too do with the availability of surgeons trained in the procedure. Hopefully that changes soon.
  24. Hopefully surgeons can use this to lobby for insurance companies to begin covering the procedure.
