Worried about my wife
GreenTealael replied to Biggamehunter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Those protein drinks and bars have more than just protein . they tend to be high calorie , very easy to eat and some are very tasty. We sometimes call them sliders be cause of this. The weight training even if starting at just the bar will help her to recondition her muscles. Then you work your way up incrementally. She has a stomach. Almost everyone on this site has undergone (or soon will) a similar surgery so the responses are not arbitrary. But a second or third medical opinion really should put you at ease. -

Worried about my wife
GreenTealael replied to Biggamehunter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi. If she has stopped can you get her to try to return to protein drinks and bars? It should help add some muscle building calories back in quickly and begin to weight train, even just lightweight stuff. Perhaps it is time to get a a second opinion. But the challenge will be to get your wife to agree, Good luck. -

Pre-surgery feelings of mom guilt
GreenTealael replied to diabladepaz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I feel your pain but beware mom guilt will have you 100lbs heavier 10yrs later still longing for surgery. Mom guilt is a convenient way society prevents women from self actualization. You become a mother and suddenly you're only a mother. Never again an individual who needs hobbies, happiness outside of motherhood or even health. Don't fall into that trap. You never see the reverse strictures placed on males in society. Motherhood is amazing, but i wanted to stick around long enough ( in good enough condition) to enjoy the active parenting phase and beyond without making my future (preventable) medical problems my children's burdens. -
day 10 and if I don't have an espresso soon, there will be hell to pay.
GreenTealael replied to nevertoolate's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Ask your team when you can resume caffeinated beverages. I made the mistake of drinking caffeinated espresso 2.5weeks after surgery (from Wholefoods so you know it was single source, fair trade and strong AF, but oddly enough not as strong as an Italian americano go figure ) I added premier protein shake to it about 5 mins in I had the shakes, heart racing all while walking in midtown Manhattan. Espresso is crazy sometimes. -
I'm breaking off my love affair
GreenTealael replied to Born in Missouri's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Soooo many different genres SciFi, psychological thrillers, social commentary, the classics, foreign, you name it! but I'm also not ashamed to admit to reading young adult novels too lol -
You're agreeing with yourself...

How long did someone help you at home after surgery?
GreenTealael replied to MK686's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I prepped a lot prior to surgery tons of cleaning and organization (I'm a minimalist anyway) so that I would not need any help afterwards. I had someone check in on me once in a while but I was ok alone. I have children but that were away during this time as well (purposely) -
Consult your Physician (and maybe dentist too) always, but you can try a very weak (1 part peroxide to 3 parts water) oral solution of peroxide and water or a strong warm salt water gargle (Himalayan) . It could be a number of problems, only a Physician will know but cleaning the area properly without destroying all of the good bacteria giving the bad bacteria a chance to proliferate could be a starting point to feeling a little better, so I would avoid alcohol based products (like Listerine original) until you have a handle on it.

Hi, I consulted with a bariatric surgeon before I even spoke to my primary about it ( you will need your primary to sign off as well so don't worry about the order, it's good to have them on board from the start, if they aren't try to convince them or switch) because I did not need a referral to consult with the bariatric program. From start to surgery just under six months. All of that time as just to complete the preop testing , there was not a required waiting period.

I'm breaking off my love affair
GreenTealael replied to Born in Missouri's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I like this idea! Perhaps for me, all inanimate objects as well. Too often I loved things more quickly than I could have ever people. Except books, I think I will love them still. -
My recovery improved drastically once it was removed, it was uncomfortable, albeit deemed necessary, but I was happy to get it out!

I had a drain too!!!

Definitely understand all of that. But just some perspective - this was a post for people who can relate to what I am feeling Pre-Op. While all of the above could be true, this was mostly meant for those who can relate and understand my frustration and irritability in the days leading up to my surgery. So while I do appreciate your perspective, it doesn’t really uplift me or make me feel better with the anxiety I am already feeling. But thanks. Oh I understand, the alternate perspective was just to provide perspective but now I offer: Awwww sucks you're not getting the time you prefer, I hope that your time leading up to surgery is peaceful, that your surgery goes smoothly and its TOTALLY worth the wait 🙋

Intermittent Fasting

I would just walk, its what millions of generations of humans did and we are built for it. High intensity exercises can come when you are ready. -
Intermittent Fasting
GreenTealael replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I did it for 5 days no big deal, weekend off, going back to it tonight, I'm curious about it long term, so I will experiment. My cals are not low and I'm close to goal so I'm going to switch things up a bit. -
Intermittent Fasting
GreenTealael replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Its an interesting concept, funny thing is I remember reading an article a decade ago about the effects of fasting on the mortality of lab rats. I found it interesting then, even more interesting now... -
You don't have to tell anyone anything, you can say diagnostic testing and recovery to HR and supervisors , nothing to everyone else.
