How do you get in enough fluids and Protein post op?
GreenTealael replied to kristy2671's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Not sure which protein shake you drink but premier caramel in coffee is one of the best ways ever. Its like a Starbucks treat when done right -
Help! Stalled and discouraged!

So sorry for your troubles, the wicked never go unpunished promise. Add protein shakes back in to get your macros up, If you find that the reset is too daunting, just reset to the cleanest level if diet possible. It helps tremendously. No lie. Intermittent fasting works, no doubt but you want those good habits (clean foods) to fall back on when you break the fast or you'll regain weight. -
If you started the antidepressants after sleeve surgery you will have that initial boost in hunger and weight gain, those are noted regular side effects, ones that should have been well explained. If you had the sleeve after you were already on antidepressants you may need to speak with your clinician about modifications to accommodate your weight loss in addition to a therapy aspect like the suggested OA. Either way, your mental health team needs to be looped in (and don't go off cold turkey, that causes tons of issues) Tracking/logging plus eating clean again sounds like a wonderful plan and its nice to have a supportive partner.

Help! Stalled and discouraged!
GreenTealael replied to lex2287's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey there What was your starting weight, teams goal weight, your goal weight? VSG patients can expect to typically lose 60-70% of excess weight Some beat the odds and lose a lot more , some a lot less. Uncomfortable facts, but there's data out there if you want it. What is your diet (when you were losing vs now)? And why sabotage yourself now? (If you can't get what you want right now then you don't want it at all?- that's subconsciously what you're saying when you trash your diet because of a stall) thankfully its a work in progress so you can continue to work and progress. You're too important and beautiful and smart to give up on your self so fight. Clean your diet out again. Stuff you know your team would give you the sideeye over, leave alone and see if this changes anything. And check in with your team if nothing changes after you make some strong efforts. Safe Journey -

How do you get in enough fluids and Protein post op?
GreenTealael replied to kristy2671's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I used alarms and a schedule checklist, also 64oz was the goal by a few weeks post op according to my plan. They wanted us to gradually work our way up. Hot fluids went down much easier and things I liked I drank the quickest (tea, sugar free light hot chocolate, decaf coffee, vitamin water zero, etc) plain water was a nightmare. Thankfully every fluid counted towards my hydration goal. I would have never made it on pure water alone. Adding protein shake to my tea, hot chocolate and coffee was invaluable early on. I added protein powder/shake to everything. pace yourself and sip constantly You can do it! -

Intermittent Fasting
GreenTealael replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
No unfortunately the more I look into it the less I think its possible I was reading conflicting scientific studies about the effects of intermittent fasting in leptin and ghrelin levels and the findings are contradictory or leaning towards ghrelin being unaffected overall. But these were mostly studies conducted in rats, so... But it has once again retrained me to become more hydration focused again, once food was introduced heavily it was such a chore , I subconsciously became chained to a feeding schedule I never relaxed on although I could have several months later after I was fully healed. So that has been the biggest benefit. I eat when I eat. But I'm always drinking. I also have an increased appetite when my period rolls around. Its crazy. But i eat more of whats on my plan (dark chocolate has made it's way on my plan for this reason) You can ride the wave by making sure you have substitutions available instead of eating the "junk". Almost anything you want from pre surgery can be made healthier and better to fit your new life style. What cant be made can be bought. I'm not sure what you crave but protein cookies, chips, ice creams are a thing now (single servings) make sure they fit into your plan (ask your NUT), STAY ACCOUNTABLE, eat dense proteins (the denser the better, within reason and capability of course) and stay hydrated AF lol -

@IveGotThePower I think for non WLS individuals that is a hard and fast rule but our already reduce cals allow us to go into kenogenesis quicker, so i think that's why I can eek by modified. -
Intermittent Fasting
GreenTealael replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
They are in my fluids (tea or coffee) traditional keto styled fasting some people can have MCT oil in coffee and it won't break the fast for them, since I add so much water oz in the morning it does not appear to break it for me, but I limit the tea/coffee with protein to one serving then all the water happens, the other servings of tea/coffee with protein happens during my non fasting hours. -
Did surgery change your food preferences?
GreenTealael replied to CharlotteKat's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
No, I had to actively give things up to prepare for surgery ( cane sugar, agave syrup, gave up honey 1 month post op, popcorn, seltzer) However there are things I eat more of than ever before and its not because its all I can have, I just gravitate to it. Did you get a get batch of olives somewhere along your journey? Or something went awry involving olives? Hear me out... Pregnant with my first child I couldn't open the pickle jar for hrs (home alone, tired, sick, crying) husband (ex) comes in 6 hrs later and opens it no problem. I refused them & haven't touched pickles in 15 yrs. Can't stand the smell of them. Food aversion , mild but still. -
Intermittent Fasting

Mornings: Hydration starting around 8am: 8oz water, 12oz tea w/stevia (3 max per day) & ~3.5oz protein shake, 24oz water, 11oz coffee (Italian americano) w/ 5.5 oz protein shake (2 max per day) or 1oz half and half, 24 oz water Afternoons: I never eat before 1pm, sometimes I start at 2-3 No significant change in meals still doing 30/30/30 Still hydrating in between hot tea (w & w/o protein shake) unsweetened iced tea and water (foreign lol) Yogurt with frozen blueberries cashews, walnuts, roasted Edamame, raisins, chia and hempseeds, dark chocolate chips (60% cacao and above always); watermelon, strawberries, boiled eggs on ryvita, peanut butter in ryvita (occasionally), protein pancake & vegan sausage (rare) Paleo turkey bombers or lentil stew or salmon pâté wrap, or tofurky sandwich on ryvita or curry chicken salad, turkey/vegan burger wrapped in lettuce, kale salad with lemon poached salmon, sauteed kale and vegan sausage, Cashews, pecans, walnuts or peanut & dark chocolate, Protein cookie, protein bar, protein chips (occasionally if I'm out and can't find suitable food choices) MFP wont let me pull up my diary sorry but the food before and after thread is a clear visual. I'm always 1200 or under Carbs 70 or under, protein 90 or higher sugar 25 or lower can't remember fats Nuts boost my calories up Evenings: I don't eat past 8-9 pm, drinking less tea and water (so I'm not up all night in the bathroom) Really the only change is the ton more fluids & fasting/delay. Crazy. -
The Thrill Is Gone
GreenTealael replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
LLysine is an essential amino acid, the recommended amount on the bottle I buy is 1000mg per day ask your team about interactions but I believe there are not any. I read research that said the typical diet is lacking in this AA anyway and I also researched Telogen Effluvium and WLS/ hair loss/ hair regrowth and the medical journals I came across had studies that saw promising results when it was included. Google it, actually I placed the links in another thread, hair loss by silly kitty, there are links to several different studies with different vitamin regimens. No major loss for me. -
