  1. Thank you!! I woke up feeling better today. It's just the one big incision that is giving me hell. Thanks for the advice. Congrats on getting sleeved! I'm looking forward to our future. Sleeved 10/10/17 • HW 280 (3/1/17) • SW 259 (10/10) • GW 180 (TBD)
  2. Hey everyone, I'm laying here in the hospital. I was sleeved yesterday. I was in so much pain from the gas yesterday but they were running pain medicine through my IV so I was asleep for most of it. I have gotten up a lot to talk but I still have painful gas in my stomach. The pain has been almost unbearable in my incisions too. They are weaning me off pain meds and it's almost more than I can handle right now. Can anyone recommend something to help this gas? The hospital gave me a chewable for gas but that still didn't help.

    Can’t stop crying

If it makes you feel better, my boyfriend asked me the morning of surgery if he should skip the gym after work to come see me in the hospital lol. I was so angry at the time. He even forgot my hospital bag at home. I really don't think he understood how major this surgery is. I think men process things on a mental basis and us women are controlled by our emotions. When we finally got home, my mom came and helped me during the days. I had to sit my boyfriend down and explain to him what I needed and what I could or couldn't have. He really didn't understand the emotional toll that this surgery has had on me. It's been a tough journey. After having that talk, he has been pretty helpful. Sometimes it takes you telling them a few times for them to understand how you feel. It doesn't make it any better when you are crying in pain. Hang in there and just express clearly what you need. I hope it gets better for you! Sleeved 10/10/17 • HW 280 (3/1/17) • SW 259 (10/10) • GW 180 (TBD)
  4. Thanks everyone! That sharp pain went away on the right my second day after surgery. I am still feeling the tightness in my stomach but that's just normal. Today I got up and went with my family to Sam's club to walk around some. I got tired really quickly and came right home. I guess I just need to build up my stamina again. I'm so happy to be on the other side of the surgery. I don't regret this decision at all!! Sleeved 10/10/17 • HW 280 (3/1/17) • SW 259 (10/10) • GW 180 (TBD)

    DRY MOUTH SOS

    Thank you so much!! I will try those Sleeved 10/10/17 • HW 280 (3/1/17) • SW 259 (10/10) • GW 180 (TBD)
  6. I wish I would have stayed a second night. I feel like I came home too soon. I was able to swallow the pain pills so they said it was up to me. I felt guilty asking another family member to stay another night with me so I just decided to come home. I am trying to walk as much as possible. I just can't tell if this throbbing pain on the right is gas or my belly pulling down on my biggest incision causing me discomfort. I'm just hoping tomorrow is a better day. I'm happy you are at home and can relax! Sleeved 10/10/17 • HW 280 (3/1/17) • SW 259 (10/10) • GW 180 (TBD)
  7. Hey everyone! I am still in recovery from having surgery a few days ago. I have been sharing my experiences on IG and have planned to continue posting about my progress (hopefully lol). I like to see other people's journeys as well, and I do see a lot on this app however I feel like it's not very personable though. If anyone wants to follow each other so we can share ideas moving forward, I would love to make some new Instagram friends. Please leave your IG below if you'd like to follow each other's journeys! My IG is: aryb_vsg Thanks!!! Sleeved 10/10/17 • HW 280 (3/1/17) • SW 259 (10/10) • GW 180 (TBD)
  8. I was just sleeved on 10/10... I will tell you the most important things that helped my hospital stay better. 1) a heating pad- I kept this on my lower back and it kept me relaxed as much as possible. It helped settle some gas pain 2) chapstick- your lips with hurt since you have a tube in during surgery. It really helped me 3) slippers with a sole on them as well as a nice sized robe the nurse can put over your shoulders to cover your backside when walking 4) try to find something for dry mouth before you go. That was the one thing I didn't do and everything still tastes disgusting because my mouth is so dry. I can't shake the feeling, but the hospital may have something. 3wks post

Wow that's amazing! Was this including your pre-op diet or just strictly after surgery? Sleeved 10/10/17 • HW 280 (3/1/17) • SW 259 (10/10) • GW 180 (TBD)
  10. Are you still in the hospital? My pain decreased a little this evening but I just woke up now with some more. I thought it was gas at first but apparently the incision on the right is where my stomach was pulled so they said it could be the worst one to heal. I am trying to get up as much as I can. I have to sleep in a recliner because the bed hurts me so much. Sleeved 10/10/17 • HW 280 (3/1/17) • SW 259 (10/10) • GW 180 (TBD)
  11. I have heard many people hit a 3 week stall. They said to keep drinking water, get in lots of protein and continue walking and it should break on its own. Don't get discouraged, just stick with the plan. Sleeved 10/10/17 • HW 280 (3/1/17) • SW 259 (10/10) • GW 180 (TBD)
  12. My surgeon told me they were okay if I could tolerate them. They make the high protein ones in the black containers. That would help you get some extra protein in.
  13. I just got home last night from the hospital, I was sleeved 10/10. My right side has a stabbing terrible pain and I feel like I'm going to pass out if I move. Has anyone else experienced this? It's scaring me. I felt fine in the hospital, just a little sore, but it's gotten a lot worse. I wonder if it is just gas causing this.

    Help Me pack my bag!

Take a heating pad!! You will want it right after surgery. I was just sleeved on the 10th and it's one of the only things making me feel better. Heating pad, chapstick, slippers and a bathrobe to cover your butt when you walk around and of course clean clothes that are easy to put on to go home in. Good luck!
  15. Hey there! After doing my 6 month check-ins with my doctor, I am FINALLY approved by insurance and have a surgery date of October 10th. I have noticed on here that a lot of people have to do a liquid pre-op diet before surgery. My surgeon has me doing a pre-op diet that pretty much mirrors a ketogenic lifestyle. I'm curious to see if anyone else's program is this way? I can basically have any protein or vegetable I want, as long as it isn't startchy. It doesn't seem like it's going to be too bad for the 13 days. I just heard the withdraws from carbs can be bad. If anyone has any good snack or meal ideas, I'd love to hear them
  16. I would be very careful. My surgeon said the only leak she has ever had was someone who took pain medicine before surgery. I would call the office and ask before taking anything. Could you try putting a heating pad on your stomach until you can get ahold of them?
  17. I had a slight gain in the middle of mine.. and I was approved just fine. I have BCBS of Kentucky. I'd contact your insurance company just to be safe but I wouldn't worry too much about it!

    feeling bummed

The same thing happened to me. My insurance didn't get my paperwork and it took two weeks for my office to respond and send it over. I called the insurance company every day and they called the doctors office for me and asked them to fax it. It took one day for my insurance to approve it had my office been on the ball. Luckily I finally have a surgery date. Stay diligent!!
  19. I started my preop diet a little early because I thought, what the heck, I am committing to this new lifestyle so I need to truly commit. This has been the first lifestyle change that I have committed to in over 3 years. So far, I am on day 6 of my no carb two week preop diet and have lost 10 pounds so far! This has just been motivating me to keep going. I haven't slipped up once on my diet. I feel so proud. 10 days away from surgery and I am feeling more ready than ever. Good luck everyone!
  20. I am getting sleeved October 10th and I have PCOS. I'm really worried this isn't going to work for me because I have struggled so much in the past. I'm happy to see you're having success with it! It gives me hope.

    Let's talk protein shakes ?!

I thought about buying that but I wasn't sure if it would be disgusting or not. Does it taste just like a broth?

    Let's talk protein shakes ?!

We are all here to help each other, not to be critical. You'll find a lot of the topics are repetitive, but it's a place for people to discuss their upcoming surgeries and concerns. If you don't want to read about protein shakes again, don't click on the thread. Simple as that.

    Let's talk protein shakes ?!

My favorite shakes are the Premier. I am drinking the banana cream right now and it's really good. Make they are cold and they will go down smooth! Also try to freeze them in popsicle trays, everything's easier to eat in popsicle form lol
  24. October 10th! I am so excited!!! Good luck everyone

    Non Liquid Pre-Op Diet?

That's great!! The prepackaged foods sound disgusting I'm glad I don't have to do those. I am so excited for my new life. I have been working for this for awhile. Thanks a lot for your input!
