I think I messed up!
GingerBananaBelly replied to kinipela24's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have a lot of Greek yogurt and sugar free pudding, too. Neither are bad. In fact, a good Greek yogurt is packed with protein. I really like Oikos Triple Zero. It had no added sugar, no artificial flavors, and no fat PLUS 15 grams of protein! And it comes in a variety of super yummy flavors. As for your macros... I was only given one number to really watch - less than 10 sugars. Of course, that means I have to keep an eye on carbs, too. Definitely talk to your NUT. S/He can give you specifics for your program. -
I remember the anesthesiologist patting my head as he told me to breathe deeply. Then nothing. Haha!

You will do great!

Congratulations!!! I'm so glad you had very little pain. I was the same. I know walking is challenging, but I promise it's one of the best things you can do. Just keep swimming, sweetie! You're going to do great!

Exhausted, 2 weeks out and nothing but water
GingerBananaBelly replied to nikki1405's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had the same fear. In fact, when I hit full liquids, I was still only doing medicine cup amounts. I talked to three of my friends about how they knew when they'd had enough. The answer was the same - you just feel it. So I took to the internet. Turns out that many people get a signal from their body post surgery. For some, it's a hiccup or burp; for others, it's a runny nose or a sneeze. I gradually increased my amount, and sure enough, I got a hiccup! Just take your time. Listen to your body. If you're anything like me, everything feels different. It's like relearning how your own body works. I suggest taking it an ounce at a time. Do 1. If you're good and still hungry, work toward 2. It will take you a while to get to 3, and there will be stalls along the way. Just remember that it's a process, a journey. Don't not eat out of fear of not losing weight. That will send your body into starvation mode. When you hit a stall, increase your protein and exercise a little. I've found that I have weight loss after days where I've had really solid protein intake. Just keep swimming, sweetie! You're gonna make it! -
Suggestions, please ?

I'm using smaller plates and eating from the tip of the fork. I also get a "you're full" hiccup, which I love! But I'm still eating too fast. I'm a teacher, so my body is pretty well trained on two things - eating quickly and restroom times. It's such a hard habit to break, especially knowing that I'm going to be returning to the chaos in August. -

Nutritional Help Please
GingerBananaBelly replied to HD Girl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Your puréed diet contains all your previous liquids plus the new foods. I agree on the snacks, too. My doc says 4-5 small meals a day. I'm still working out my schedule to get them all in, and to be hungry enough for them. -
My doc said gummies were fine at my 2 week post-op, but they have to have iron or you need an iron supplement. Hi

SAIL INTO SUMMER CHALLENGE
GingerBananaBelly replied to Dashofpixiedust8's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm a week behind, but I'd still like to join if I may. I am three weeks and one day post-op, and other than a bout of dehydration, doing great. I actually started yoga yesterday. Anyway, I understand if I can't join in at this point, but here is my info just in case. SW on 6/16/17 = 253 I've averaged a little over 6 pounds per week, so I used that (and a little wishful thinking) to determine my goal. GW on 8/11/17 = 190 W on 6/23/17 = 245 Thank you! -

Don't feel guilty at all! What you are doing is super hard. Being hungry is completely natural. Your body needs nutrients to survive (and to heal). Remember that you are your one and best advocate for yourself. You know your body. Talk to your doctor. Be open and honest about what you're feeling and what your body needs. If you cry, it's okay; tears show your strength and passion. Just keep swimming! This is a process, and everyone's process is different. Blessings! -
I was sleeved on June 1, and my first restaurant experience was Father's Day. My family was amazing! I ordered a plate, and my sweet family let me eat from theirs. It worked great! I had some sweet potato and applesauce. Yummy! 🤤 I will tell you that my doctor gave me a medical restriction card that allows me to order from the kids menu at any restaurant. You might want to check into that. Just keep swimming!

What all can I count towards liquids
GingerBananaBelly replied to Sparklez's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am having the exact same issue. I mean, that's A LOT of liquid! I was so dehydrated yesterday, the doc couldn't even hit a vein to give me an IV. My understanding is that anything liquid counts. That means popsicles, jello, broth, tea (so long as it's decaffeinated and unsweetened) all four toward that 64 oz. Now, I'm a Southern girl, so unsweetened tea is downright wrong; try stevia in cold tea and just a bit of honey in hot tea. Just keep swimming! I remind myself daily (sometimes hourly) that this is a process that takes time. We will get there! -
Just got sleeved today
GingerBananaBelly replied to Kerensky18's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The gas pains are the pits, but a full dropper of baby gas drops every two hours will help. The very best thin for it is walking. Walk as much much and as often as you can; it works the gas out of your system. Just keep swimming! Remember that this is a process that takes time, and you are going to rock it! -
Hey, y'all! I had surgery on June 1, 2017, and I'm doing great! I've lost 16 pounds since surgery and 29 pounds since I began my journey in August 2016. Everything was smooth sailing until 12 days post-op, when I developed a sore throat. I went to my first post-op appointment on June 15, but didn't mention the sore throats because I thought it was sinus. I got the all clear and journeyed four hours home to Tennessee for a summer with my family. Long story short, I woke up June 16 with a horribly painful throat. I went to the doctor and found out I had strep. Well, after six days on an antibiotic, I'd had no real change except serious facial and dental pain. Went back to the doctor and got a shot of steroids, but the bigger problem was my low blood pressure - 94/62. After a few questions, (rapid heartbeat, dark urine, infrequent urination, sunken eyes) the doctor decided it was due to dehydration. She tried to give me an IV, but I was "so dry," that she ended up blowing two veins and not being able to hit a third. so here is my question: How do you guys get in your 64 oz. of fluid daily? I know you have to sip, sip, sip, and I am (I carry a water bottle with me everywhere), but it clearly isn't enough. What are your tips and tricks for upping your fluid intake? Thank you for all your suggestions! I'll try anything to avoid a trip to the hospital.
