I had my last appointment Sept. 18th and was approved by insurance and got my surgery date (Dec. 5th) on Oct. 5th. I think it took longer than 2 weeks because the lady at the hospital who handles submitting claims forgot to send mine. Otherwise I think I would’ve heard back within a week.

How long before u get surgery
kcvasquez replied to Mom2Slimdown's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my first consult June 16th and my surgery is scheduled for December 5th. It may have been a little sooner but the lady who handles sending in the approval letter to my insurance company apparently forgot to send mine in and when I called 2 weeks later she said she had just submitted it. So that’s been a sore spot for me but other than that everything has gone smoothly -
What made you choose RNY over the sleeve?
kcvasquez replied to jrsone's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I've had severe reflux and issues with GERD for years so my surgeon said he could not, in good conscious, recommend the sleeve. He said he personally prefers RNY vs. sleeve for many reasons but problems with reflux and the amount of weight lost were his biggest issues for not recommending the sleeve. I'm waiting to hear back from insurance now and hoping to get a phone call by the end of the week to schedule pre-op and surgery hopefully the end of October or very beginning of November! -
I am currently halfway through the process on my way to RNY surgery, hoping for an October 2017 surgery date! So far the only people who know are my husband and sister because both are very supportive. My goal is to never tell my in-laws and some friends that I am having/had surgery. Not because I'm embarrassed but some of them are very judgmental and have in the past even tried to sabotage my healthy eating and weight loss efforts. My one issue is that I do home daycare and take care of my sister in-laws girls (my nieces) so I have to take time off for this and I'm not sure what to say as far as taking so much time off. Also how do you handle family get together after surgery as far as eating goes? Any stories or insight on how you kept WLS a secret would be much appreciated, thank you!

Recovering addict wanting GB

My insurance process has been amazing. And I can tell you from years of fighting with them on other coverage issues, this has been surprising and dream to work with them so far! Lol, I have Medica and called them first to see exactly what I needed to do and what they would cover. Since they don't do WLS at the only hospital in town here I had to go out of network and was told I needed to get a referral from my primary first. I got the referral and went to my first appointment June 16th to meet with the surgeon. From there we set up the 3 required nutrition appointments and the psych eval. I go in Sept. 18th after my 3rd nutrition appointment and meet with the surgeon and fingers crossed I will have RNY early to mid October! My insurance doesn't have any requirements other than I needed the referral, they leave the requirements up to the surgeon which has been nice. Less to deal with from a 3rd party! I hope your insurance goes over well too! Much luck and congratulations on starting this journey! -
I was wondering the same thing. I actually do home daycare and can't take much time off because it leaves all of my families without care. I've already taken quite a few days off this year even before I knew I would have surgery.

Not surgery related but I just wanted to say hi from another South Dakota native! Born and raised in Sioux Falls but I moved to ND for college when I was 18 and have been here since! Glad to hear you're doing well, I hope my surgery goes that great!

Yay!! It will be so nice to be home!

Starting my journey!!!
kcvasquez replied to BrandiJo2009's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm just starting out too! I've been thinking about VSG surgery for a few years but after yet another failed attempt at losing on my own I decided on Monday that I was done with that. So I called and made an appointment and have my first consultation tomorrow morning! I'm nervous and excited all at the same time! My husband is super supportive as he always has been, he's never said that he's worried about me leaving him afterwards [emoji848] maybe I should ask? [emoji23] I'm not sure on what my insurance requires before surgery so I'm nervous as to how long I will have to wait. But either way I will be better off a year from now than I am now! I'm so happy to have found a place to share all these feelings and have people going through it too. As of now I am only telling my husband and sister because I don't need to hear anyone else's opinions on what they think I should or shouldn't do. Lol
