Single mid 30s Sleeve Buddy in the Houston area
knowledge_governs posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi there I'm a 34 year old single woman with Wanderlust who is currently living in Houston TX. I have many family members who have gone through WLS but none of them live in Texas. I'd love to have a friend near my age going through the surgery around the same time (mine is scheduled for Aug) to compare stories about shopping for clothes, working out, dating, adjusting work schedules, etc. If that person happens to live near by or travels to Houston all the better, but online friends are of course also welcome! -

Any August 2017 Sleevers?

Me too! My surgeon is Dr Holder Haynes but my surgery isn't until Aug 22nd. Good luck! -
I'm right there with you. I've never been thin and I doubt this surgery will change that. But hopefully a healthy curvy instead of where I am now. I am not a cook and work behind a desk all day. Luckily I'm not having to feed anyone else so thats one less pressure. I started going to aquafit after work twice a week and really like it. Small steps. I've tried big changes all at once before and they didn't stick so hoping to do it right this time

Yeah I've moved around a lot myself, military brat born in Berlin. Dad's sidr of the family is in Cali, beautiful area. You'll love it! How is the liquid diet going? I'm doing research on protein flavors and trying to make a plan since I have a few weeks. My BMI is in the low 40s so I qualify for insurance (though with a high deductible plan its still real pricey). At first I was really frustrated with how long this was taking since I first met with my surgeon in Feb after being in the ER over New Years cause I thought I was having a heart attack. Finally scared me enough to do something about the weight. But the more I talk to people I think the extra time was good. I've had a lot of self doubt about being able to change for the long run. But my support group says one day at a time so that's what I'm trying to focus on Sent from my LG-K371 using BariatricPal mobile app -

Welcome! I'm Aug 22nd in Houston and getting more nervous the closer it gets. But glad I had time to get my head right and make a plan. Working my way through some different protein powders/drinks to see what I like. Start my liquid diet Aug 8th. -

Hi Gabbee! I'd love that are you from Texas originally? Oh in a week, that's soon! Which surgery are you having? I'm almost positive I'm having the sleeve but my Dr is also willing to do the bypass so still deciding. How are you feeling? Did you have to do the liquid diet? I have to do liquid for two weeks, starting Aug 8th. Sent from my LG-K371 using BariatricPal mobile app -

Wow nice turn around! Are you doing a pre-op diet? I have 2 weeks of liquids required before hand. And are y'all taking the full 2 weeks off of work? -

Congratulations! I'm Aug 22nd but I've know for several weeks. Are you required to do the liquid pre-diet? What part of England? I studied there for a year during university and have fond memories -
I habent really looked into supplements like I should. I've gotten some samples and need to order some so I have them. I've been more focused on food (surprise surprise lol) Yes we should keep in touch! I think it'll be auper helpful to go through this around the same time as someone else. I'm down in Houston. How about you? Sent from my LG-K371 using BariatricPal mobile app

I'm starting the liquid diet on Aug 7th. Not looking forward to it but I understand why its important. Yeah my surgeon wouldn't schedule my surgery or submit to insurance until the giant checklist was complete. I'd been focusing so intensely on that list and getting it completed. Now that I don't have that to focus on I'm getting nervous. A lot of self doubt. I went to a support group last night and I think I'm back in the mental place I need to be. Still nervous but determined Yeah work schedule is more important than a family get together so I understand that. One of the teachers in my support group talked about the 'mocktails' they brought to a family event and drank from a martini glass to feel like they were participating. You'll do great!

Ugh that's tough. I told a handful of close friends and my mothers side of the family the truth (I'm the 8th person to have WLS on that side of the famiky) so I feel like I have a good support system. But I told my co-workers and neighbors that I'm having surgery to fix a hiatal hernia. The liquid diet is going to be kept as quiet as I can. Honestly in your situation I'd contact my surgeon and see if I can push the surgery back a week so it doesn't effect the family vacation. Sent from my LG-K371 using BariatricPal mobile app

Hello briski, yeah I think ill be doing a lot of those options for after the surgery. But from my understanding, jello, pudding, and popsicles don't count as part of the liquid diet. So I won't be able to use them pre-op :/ -
Welcome! I'm pretty new myself. My sleeve is scheduled for Aug 22nd here in Houston. I've been focused on the giant To Do list for my surgeon so haven't had time to worry. Now that I've completed it and am starting to read some people's stories I'm getting a little nervous :/ but still excited for the new me.

I hear you, my list was long as well. Has taken me months to get through it. But I've heard from people in my local support group who disnt have to jump through hoops and meet nutritionists, etc...and they are the people struggling the most. As they say, trust the process -

Pre-Op Diet
knowledge_governs replied to belinda401's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's interesting, both my nutritionist and surgeon have talked about two weeks of an all liquid diet. I know several other patients of weight lose surgery and they all had the same liquid diet requirement. I have a meeting with my surgeon in a few weeks, I'm going to ask if that's because I'm in a certain BMI range or not. -

Oh that's such a good question I hadn't even thought about! Now that I think of it I bet I will be on my period as well. Why must it be mesh underwear? I don't own any but I could pick some up if they'll let me wear it for the surgery. -

I'm starting to make a shopping list for the pre-op and post-op diet. My surgeon is having me on a liquid diet for two weeks before and after. Anyone else have the same diet plan for a month? Any suggestions on what your stocking up on for Aug?
