TommyO, I am always glad when somthing I say or do touches someone else. A teacher at the school where I teach PreK gave me that name several years ago. I love bears and my name is Mary. How did your sister get her nickname? While, I have not lost my brother or sister, I lost my youngest son, Danny 5 3/4 years ago at the age of 16 1/2. When he died, I lost the will to keep struggling with my weight and it has been a lifetime struggle. Thank you for sharing with me. Mary:)

December Bandings....How is everyone doing?
marebear replied to Dawn NH's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi, my name is Mary and I was banded on Dec.26 in Houston by Dr.Marvin. I am doing great except I get tired so easily. When I went for my first week checkup, I had lost 20 pounds, which is very unusual for lapbanders, However, I had picked up a lot of fluid before Christmas. I was on liquids the first seven days and I did not get hungry until the 6th and 7th days. I was so thankful for the 2nd week to start so I could eat soft foods. I will be on soft food for another week and then will be on a low fat, low sugar diet. My first fill is on February 1. My biggest problem is the tireness. I teach PreKindergarten and we started back to school on Jan.4. It's a good thing that we only had 3 days of school this week because I'm not sure I could have made a full week. Any suggestions for fatigue? By the way, I love the idea of a December banding support group. Mary -
I went with Dr. Robert Marvin with Obesity Surgery Specialists because he was on my insurance list. He has been great. He has been very caring and helpful in answering all my questions. I caught a cold the weekend before I was supposed to have my surgery. When I called the hospital, they called him and he had the pre-op staff come to the waiting room to evalute me. He came into the room and talked to me to tell me it would be okay to do he surgery. An I.V. was not started until he made the final decision. I talked to him while I was on the stretcher before I went into the operating room. He answerer all of my family's questions after I came out of surgery. He is the first one that I would recommend to anyone. Mary

Hi, I am another newbie. I was banded on Monday, December 26, 2005 in Houston, Texas by Dr. Robert Marvin. I have surrived the first week of liquids and tomorrow I go to Houston for my first week checkup. I live in Schulenburg and will have to drive about 100 miles to get to my doctor's office. (In case you are interested, Schulenburg is half-way between Houston and San Antonio.) I decided I wanted to have the lap band last May. My insurance okayed the surgery the end of October and I spend November and December going to different doctors and getting blood work done. I am very interested in learning from all of your experiences. I so want to make this work for me. I teach PreKindergarten and I need to be able to move with my children. Mary

I went for my first week check-up today. I have lost 20 pounds since my last offical weigh-in on Dec.21. I am so excited. The nurses told me that was unusual for lap band patients. Usually, lap band patients only use 6 or 7 pounds the first week. I will not get any fills until my 4-week check-up. Mary
