    Band slip

Insurance paid for my revision!!! My band slipped last year and it was fixable. They fixed the same band. It was covered. I was terrified as it happened because i had no idea it was covered till after surgery. They also thought the band might have to come out. Thank God that didn't happened.

    No Longer Banded!!

Hi Mandy- Hope you are feeling well! I am so sorry you lost the Band. I really know how you are feeling. Last year at this time my Band slipped due to a really bad stomach virus. I threw up so much that I unstitched the Band and it slid down my stomach. Lucky for me they were able to repair the same band and just go in and stitch me up again. I promised myself that I would never let myself throw up that much again. Since last year I have been good and losing weight with the band. Just Pray everyday that I never get that sick again. Its awful not being able to eat or drink. Stick with weightwatchers and you will meet your goal. Good luck and I love your Blog!!!!

    what causes slippage

My slippage was caused by a very bad stomach virus that made me throw up for 4 days. A sign its a problem is you can't keep liquids down. I went to ER because I thought I was dying. Should have gone sooner. Went to lapband doc at beginning of stomach virus and they took out all the liquid in the Band. Helped a little not completely. I had to have my band fixed with another surgery. they didn't even have to replace it just reposition the old band. My Best advice don't get overfilled and as soon as you throw up more then usual contact your doctor. A stomach virus can be deadly to a lapband patient.

Stomach Virus + Band = NO FUN!

Be Very Careful! Last year at around this time I had a terrible Stomach Virus. Of course it happened over a weekend when my doctors office was closed. I refused to go to the Emergency Room till Monday morning after I talked to the doctor. After 3 days of constant Vomiting I was admitted to ER for severe dehydration. After a Upper Gi I was informed my band had slipped from my stomach virus. Emergency surgery the next morning. They were able to Fix my Band. It was the worst feeling in the world. But I was so happy when I found out they didn't have to remove my Band! Be very careful with a stomach Virus. Drink as much fluids as possible and gatorade to prevent dehydration.
  6. I had my original Band in April 2008. I had a hard time losing at first because my surgeon was conservative with Fills. In 2009 I started to lose quicker and was finally getting to 1-2 pounds per week. Then Easter came and I got a Stomach Virus. I was sick for 5 days. I threw up everything and then couldn't keep liquids down. In April 2010 after my stomach virus episode my Band slipped. All the Throwing up dislodged the Band and it Slipped. Fortunately my surgeon was able to Repair my Band. So it is possible to get it repaired. I now know as soon as I am Vomiting even a little call the surgeon right away. Take it step by step. Worst case scenario is they replace your band on a different date and let your stomach heal.

    Woke up with Rash

I had an allergic reaction to the Steri strips that covered all of my incisions. It was really bad. Went back to doc and he sent me to a Dermatologist. Had to get a shot of epinephine because my eyes swelled shut after they took the strips off. My rash started out as red bumps that spread all over my incisions. Go Back to doc ASAP could be serious.
  8. My Band Slipped in April. I had to get Rebanded. I was so sick that I went to the ER and was told I needed Emergency Surgery to fix the Band or Remove it completely. The doctor fixed it. So I still have a Band. One month later I just got my Insurance Explanation of Benefits where they only paid the surgeon a portion of the surgery and they are saying I owe the doctor 18,000. Could this be possible. On the Insurance paperwork they say my Surgery was not Medically Necessary. Hello I couldn't eat or drink for more than 4 days. I was completely dehydrated & I thought the surgery was most definitely medically Necessary. No one told me when I had surgery that I would need to pay more than my Copays. I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield Ny. Anyone have this happen to them. Is it possible that the paperwork was processed wrong. I guess I need to call the doctors office on Monday!
  9. Hi Everyone my Band slipped about 3 weeks ago. I had to get rebanded. Another surgery. It is very serious if it slips. I could not keep anything down not even water. No liquids. Went right down and back up. YUCK! I was lucky that I did not feel any physical pain. I did not eat or drink for 4 days while the doctors took the fluid out of the band and I was still sick. I became severly dehydrated. I was admitted to the ER to get fluids where they did upper GI and Xray to see slip. Emergency Surgery next morning and I wasnt allowed to drink anything till after surgery because they were afraid it would slip more. Not fun to go through but I feel great now. 3 weeks out and I feel like I got a new lease on Life. Take Slips seriously please.

    Unfilled and still Vomiting!

Just wanted to let everyone know that my Band slipped! I had emergency surgery on friday to reposition the Band. Just looking forward to get better! Going back to liquids and remembering the whole process. Take Vomiting seriously. I did not have any pain so I thought I was fine.
  11. Hi Everyone- I got sick on Easter. I was so sick that my band got swollen from all the Vomiting. I had a complete Unfill Yesterday and I am still Vomiting. Doctor says if I am completely unfilled and still vomiting to go to my Primary Care Doctor cause it may be a bad stomach virus! Has this happened to anyone. I am so scared it is still the band. Kind of got heartburn and hiccups too which makes me think that the Band is still really swollen and only time will help. I am only on liquids and they won't even stay down. Any suggestions out there. I can't take much more of this. Thanks!
  12. Just back from the hospital after emergency surgery! Funny thing is I had absolutely no abdominal pain or heartburn that people say they get when the band Slips. It all started on Easter Sunday when something got stuck and I threw up for hours. Then I couldn't keep liquids down. Got the band completely Unfilled on Wed. Then still sick back to the doctor on Thursday where he sent me to the Emergency room with the suspicion that my Band Slipped. He was correct. 1st thing Thursday morning he did surgery and fixed my slipped Band. I was so scared and it happened so fast that I am just wrapping my mind around it. Does anyone have a list of what they drink/eat the 1st month out? Happened so fast all I got was clear liquids for 2 days and regular liquids for 4 weeks. Thanks for your help.
  13. Hi All- I am extremely sick fever, cough, sneezing and the doctor put me on Antibiotics. Since I have been taking them I have been nauseous and throwing up. Can't keep anything down except Tea. Was wondering what the signs are that are a Band problem or should I assume its a stomach virus and let it run its course! Its been 2 days feeling better today!

    Very curious....and pregnant!

I had my surgery the day my son turned 8 months. I also had a hernia repair at the same time. I could have had the surgery a couple months sooner but I got sick & it was postponed. I would check with the doctor & see what they say. Mine was fine with it. GOOD LUCK!

    Hello New Here

I had my first appointment in January & I had Surgery in April. It can go as fast or as slow as you want it. You have a checklist of tests & things you need to get done. The faster you get them done the faster you can have surgery. My surgery got postponed 3 weeks too because I got sick. The pulmonologist would not clear me till I got better. Trust me do the tests as soon as you can & you will get a date. He fills up quick. He will most likely give you a tentative date when you 1st meet him. Let me know how it goes.

    Hello New Here

Hi I had Dr. Vohra do my surgery last April. The office staff is great with the paperwork & getting things done with your insurance. Trust me they will call back as soon as they see your insurance covers weight loss surgery. I also had Dr. Vohra fix an umbilical hernia at the same time he did my LapBand. He is a great doctor. Very Quiet. Unfortunately I have had a hard time losing with the Band. I am Insulin Resistant & they think that is why. If you have any questions feel free to email me at jenlevy33@aol.com Jen

    Anyone here not losing?

I am right there with you. I have had my Band 10 months & have only lost 25 pounds. 10 before surgery & 15 after surgery. I only got to my sweet spot in November. I am going in the right direction. I started exercising 4 times a week. I follow the rules. But for some people it does not work as well. I am Insulin Resistant & my doctor thinks that is why I am losing a lot slower. Just had a Blood test to check for other problems. I have an appointment with my surgeon next week. I am thinking of switching to Bypass. But I want to give it more time. Now that I am exercising & at my sweet spot the doctor thinks the weightloss will follow. April 21st will be a year. If I don't see a difference by then I will make a decision. Jen
  18. I had a Band that was too tight & had a slight unfill a couple of months ago after not losing. According to the Dr. it is because with a too tight band you tend to eat things that you know can go through your band but are not neccessarily good for you such as mashed potatoes, ice cream or as he called it Slider foods. When you do that you tend to eat more. So if its too tight get an unfill like I did. I started losing more weight & I am happy now.
  19. Hi Everyone- I was wondering if there was anyone in this forum that is insulin resistant. If so has it made losing the weight a slower process. I was told that I am insulin resistant but I am not diabetic. I was not sure how this will effect my weightloss. Thank You in advance for replying. Jen

    Too tight= no weight loss?

Hi- I had surgery in April & I was not losing weight fast at all. First I was too loose. Then I was too tight. My doctor said you need to fing the GReen Zone. I got an unfill when I was too tight & now finally I am losing weight consistently 1-2 pounds a week.

We decided to follow a version of the south beach diet. Basically low carb. I guess it is working because I was not losing alot eating carbs. Started walking 5 days a week for 30 minutes. Track calories in a food journal & on the daily plate.com. Hardest part drinking all the water. But I am trying. Have a great week guys.

    Hello from Long Island, NY

Hey skinny Wren- My name is Jeanette & last Year at this time I was in the same position as you. I am 37 Years old. My starting weight was 310. Last Jan. I saw my surgeon who was on Long Island as well. Dr. Vohra. I did all the testing & requirements & I had surgery on April 21, 2008. The surgery was the easy part. Getting the band properly filled was another. It took me 7 months to get to my Sweet spot. I have 6.5 cc's in a 14cc band. Now that I am getting restriction I have been losing. I am a slow loser though. I have only lost 25 pounds. But I got tendonitis in my ankle from the treadmill so that slowed me down(no gym). I am back on track & getting ready to lose more in the new Year. Let me know if you have any questions about the surgery or testing. Who is your surgeon & where in Long Island are you. You can email me if you want jenlevy33@aol.com. Take Care Jen

I have failed my band - SUPPORT GROUP

Hi my name is Jeanette & I have failed my Band. I was banded on April 21, 2008. I have lost 25 pounds. I have gained and lost the same 5 pounds over & over. So can I please join your group. I have a notebook to write my foods down & I have an appointment with a nutritionist to help get me on track after the New Year. Thanks for this Forum.
  25. Hi- I was wondering if any bandsters have had skin problems since surgery. I was banded in April & since my last fill in October I have had skin problems. If I get a cut on my legs it does not heal & scars. I have developed Rosacea on my face. I went to see a Dermatologist yesterday & he said I was dehydrated & need to drink more water immediately. Also I need to take my vitamins regularly. He thinks I might me vitamin deficient & said I should get a blood test. Funny at my last fill the doc gave me a script to get a blood test to check for vitamin deficencies. I guess I should follow up.
