hmmm, free Costco buffet. I like that idea. Next time bring the kids, and some to go boxes. Just grab the plate and dump the whole thing our to go box. Better yet, sounds like a good place to take a date for dinner! Then I can take her to best buy for a movie.

I am begging everyone and anyone to help!

I'm one week pre op, and I have the same concern about not drinking during meals. However, you're not on a post op diet? Mine require two weeks liquid, and two weeks mushy. -
Finally Approved after several appeals!!

How long after surgery till you can drive?
singledad167 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My sister, who is a RN, is picking me up and taking me to her house after surgery. While I love my sis, and she's great, I really don't want to be there more than a day or two. I'm just way more comfortable healing at home. She lives about 40 miles from me. What are the chances I can drive home the day after my surgery? -
My GP shot me down today. I was so excited after months preperation of going to the intro seminar, getting my sleep study, getting a cpap, getting my psych study, and last was getting my GP approval. He denied me saying that I hadn't done enough. He wants another six months with a detailed journal of my exercise. He prescibed wellbutrin, and said to come back in a month. I'm really dissappointed. Anyone else have this happen, and if so, is there anything that can be done? I'm really commited to this and I feel confident I can make the necessary lifestyle changes (I have already began). Any suggestion? BTW, my insurance dosen't require ANY of this. All they care is if your BMI is over 40, or 35 with comorbities (or however you spell that).

Who's Getting Banded in July?
singledad167 replied to SanDiegoSusan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Just found out today, that I'll be in bandster land on July 14th!! -
I just got the good news!
singledad167 replied to sue erv's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
congrats on your approval. I just got approved also, but please don't try to over do it, even if it does mean waiting. -
I think you need to just start off really slow. Walk for just 2 minutes a day. Then add a minute or two every week. Like anything it has to become a life style. Back in the day, I had to force and drag myself to work out. Then, after a few weeks, it seemed much easier. After a month or so, I hated missing my gym nights, and loved exercising. Also, you'll have so much more energy to keep up with the toddler.

GP derailed me today!
singledad167 replied to singledad167's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They said I was leaving the message in the wrong voicemail box, and they were not getting forwarded to her. Which still didn't explain why she didn't call like she promised, (she being the receptionsit) and then she was off on Friday. Up until last week, it was not a problem, so I'll let it go at that. -

GP derailed me today!
singledad167 replied to singledad167's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, the drama continues!!! Now 5 months into this process, I finally have everything done. Remember, my ins required NONE of this. However, the lap band doc did. So, I got my: Seminar done Test/treament for sleep apnea (sleep study) done Psych Eval. Done GP checkup and 6 month diet done Blood Test/EKG done Wrote my post op plan, set up support and fitness plan done So last Monday as excited as can be I called and the WLS center and they said YES we have all the information, and well call you by the end of the day, schedule you preop meet with the surgeon and it should be two weeks after that. Ok so I’m all giddy, call all my friends and family that’s going to support me on this and told them it was going to finally happen. However, no call on Monday as promised, so I call on Tuesday, no answer at the WLS, and I leave a message. Call a couple more times, still no answer. Call back on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, still no answer!! No one answered the phone there the entire week. I called in the mornings, at lunch, and in the afternoons. Nothing nada, zip!!!! So, I called the hospital that's associated with the WLS clinic, asked if they went out of business, went on vacation, or maybe abducted by aliens (said it in a nice jokingly manner). They replied, "not that I know of, you should leave a message. Although I already told here I left several message I remained calm and I asked what do next and she had no answer, I said does this mean I just need to find another surgeon, she replied, "maybe so". Now, I'm no superstitious, but I'm wondering why this has to be so incredibly difficult!!! This surgeon is very experienced, but I haven't had ONE good experience with any docs office I visited. I’ve already spent 100’s of dollars. So far seminar $250.00 Pshyc eval that ins was supposed to cover half but didn’t $200.00 Deductable this year $500.00 FLIP Program (not coverd by ins) $250.00 So far total is $1200.00 and I’m no where. This is getting depressing!! -
Sleep Study -- Can someone translate these results?
singledad167 replied to neicy57's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There's another site that would be better for answering all you questions. When I was going through the sleep study process they helped me emmensly. There are even sleep docs that post there that can break everyting down for you, help you get the right equipment. Repost this on Sleep Apnea Support Forum Index Good luck and keep us posted... -
I'm not banded yet, but from everything I understand, you are healing, and I assume you've hadn't had a fill yet. Right now it's about healing, and protecting your new pouch. After you start to get your fills, you'll have more restriction. Everyone is different as far as weight loss, and how fast. Excersice certainly expedites the weight loss. The band is a tool, and you get out of it, what you put into it. Good luck and be patient, it will happen.

Stay away from the band!!
singledad167 replied to snoho's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have to assume that if someone is very vague, posts one time then does not return they are most definately a troll. Not sure what it accomplishes. Perhaps a need for attention, even if it's negative. Like a misbehaved child that dosen't get enough love from their parents. They act out sometimes in a negative way just so someone will acknolwlege them. It's actually quite sad. -
GP derailed me today!
singledad167 replied to singledad167's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG!!!! After calling twice a day for the last two weeks, I get a call from the Docs office that my letter is ready to be picked up!!! Also, after calling the lab everyday for two weeks the doc finally walked the blood test order across the hall, and I had my lab work done this morning. Funny, I have an appt with a new GP on monday. We'll it only took 6 weeks to get approval, write a letter, and order blood test and an EKG. I'm keeping my appt monday with the new GP. After this hell, I'll never go back to my old one! Good news is as soon as my lab work is back, I can schedule my surgery!!! -
Eating, Eating and Eating
singledad167 replied to CALLIE's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've heard of many people putting some weight back on after surgery, and between the first fill. Many have reported not being restricted. Right now it's about healing, and making sure your band is well anchored, then start the fills. Be patient, it will come. -

singledad167 replied to singledad167's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We'll, I'm still waiting for my letter, still waiting for his office to call me for required blood test. I call now every day, and still NOTHING!! The day after I get this letter from him, I'm calling to get my records, and have already found a new GP. Sorry to rant, but this is sooooo frustrating!! -
We'll sorta anyways. This morning I was actually working out on the tread mill, and was jamming on my mp3 when my son told me there was someone at the door. So I go to the door, and there's a we'll dressed man, and his son. I was toweling off, and he apologized for interupting my work out. I said that was ok, I was just trying to drop some weight. He told me he that was great and he told me the two things he see's as a doctor that effects healt the worst is smoking, and obeasity. So I asked what kind of doctor he was. He replied, "A gastroenterologist, that speacializes in weight loss surgery". I laughed and told him I was planning on getting the lap band. We talked for awhile, and he was suprised on how much I knoew about the procedure, and I told him about this site. He said that he's really in favor of the lapband procedure, and wished me luck. After about 15 minutest of talking about the lap band I came to realize he wasn't there to talk to me about the lap band, he was there to witness the word of God. He was actually a Jehova Witness.

life of lapband?
singledad167 replied to juliatabor's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
While no WLS surgery is perfect, in Europe where they've been doing the Lap Band procedure much longer than in the US they have done studies showing that only 5% of lap band patients have to be reoperated on after 5 years vs 10% of bypass. Also head to head Lapband vs gastric bypass there was no difference in the amount of weight loss after 5 years. Lapband patients lose just as much, and it's much less invasive, and completely reversible. Read more here... why are people such HATERS!!!!???
singledad167 replied to gg2007BandSTAR's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That would be the sweetest revenge! I had some trouble w/my PCP at first, but once he saw my determination, he went along with it. I just went to a pulmonolgist to get my cpap (a machine to help sleep apnea)read out, and told him I'm getting the lap band. He said he hates the lap band too. He said that he had at least a dozen patients in the last year get the surgery, and lost so much weight, they no longer need to see him, because the weight loss took care of the sleep apnea. Jokingly he said the lap band is going to put him out of business! -

singledad167 replied to singledad167's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Finally got to talk to my PCP today. I told him that I wanted him to apporve the surgery. I told him that I have study this for the last 3 months, I thought about it really hard, and I've made my decision. I told him that if you are against WLS, that's fine, but I told him that I'm going ahead with or without his approval, but I would like him to remain my doctor. He said, ok lets go for it! He said he would have my letter to the WLS doctor faxed out by the end of the day! So I'm back on track!!! -

Ok, I"m feeling a bit guilty because it wasn't his mistake the first time he called, the nurse admitted that she forgot to put my cell on his message. I guess they do this electronically now. Then, I forgot I shut my ringer off on my cell phone during a meeting this am, and forgot to turn it on, and he called me twice today. So he has been trying to reach me, but just bad luck. Try again tommorow! Thanks everyone for all the great advice, and support! -
Easy approval question...
singledad167 replied to Soma82's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wish I had such luck. My insurance requires nothing except bmi over 40, or 35 with comorbids, but my bap band doc requires no matter what, sleep study, psyc eval, PCP approval, and 6 months supervised diet. I had done everything, then I got denied from my GP, so right now I'm stuck. I first started my lapband process in Feb, and I don't know when I'll ever get to have this done. It's very frustrating. -

singledad167 replied to singledad167's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I called his office to leave the message to call me, I asked them to have him call my cell phone. I got home that evening with no call from him to find he had left a message on my home phone. I called the next day and repeated that I would like him to call me on my cell; still no call. I'll try again today. I was thinking that I might be better off writing a letter to him. What do you think?
