  1. At around 3 months post op, i began having salty carb cravings, Cheez-its, or Triscuits, etc. Dry, carb, salty is what i really wanted! When I found myself at the store buying a big box of Cheez-Itz, I realized I needed to change something. So I did some reading and research, and knowing that keto is forever, not just to get to a goal, this was a bigger jump for me somehow. But I had all that surgery and all, so why not go for the gold?? I've recently downloaded 4 cookbooks that use 5 ingredients, contain 5 carbs to make all of the keto recipes, Bfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Dessert (In Five <-- for those google searchers). These aren't bariatric geared, so I have to pay attention to the end of day totals and see if i'm lacking in any protein areas. LOTS of fun foods in there, incorporating cream and cheese and eggs into a lot, but at the same time, not having to eat eggs and bacon every morning for bfast. I've not used those ketostix, but I'm sure as this goes along, I'll want to keep up with that. I'm still just starting out. This morning I am eating a Maple Pecan Porridge, made with Coconut Flour and Ground Flaxseed, with Cinnamon and toasted Pecans. I has a great taste, and certainly filled me up faster than expected. And most of these recipes are made for either 2 or 4 servings. I'm making for me only, hubs is a carb man, but I usually can adjust for 2 servings so that i only have 1 leftover meal.

The Good The Bad & The Nasty

And I set this up as Nasty- trying to figure out what to do with it now. I got the creamer, and the Cafe Bella. I'm able to drink the Bella now, but I have to add 2 cups of full strength coffee, and half a cup of 2% milk in order to drink it. Way too sweet for me otherwise, and quite expensive. Though I do like the grilled cheese flavor crunchies. Sriracha is spicy and honey mustard bbq is kinda sweet

The Good The Bad & The Nasty

I had an issue with chewing 4 big chalky calcium tabs a day and went in search for solutions without it being a capsule either. I found this and I really enjoy it. Its the consistency of the drinkable yogurt. Tastes like a slightly tart blueberry yogurt shooter. Just 2 TBSP every morning

The Good The Bad & The Nasty

That's just awesome @Dashofpixiedust8 ! I especially like the scores above 10 hehehe! Thanks for this very thorough rundown of your palate pleasers (and displeasers). I'm definitely saving this and adjusting to my own tastes.
  5. I can say that I've tried to have that in the back of my mind as I work on mine, but it's waaaay faaaar in the back of my mind. I believe they told me this, as we stop meeting as often, so I can have my goals to shoot for. But heck! I've got to work up to 4oz of protein, plus vegs and fruits first! That's so far away from me right now, (sounds like you are about the same with eating) I'm tucking it away for future reference. Then we will see how things progress. There are many food lifestyle options as our roads widen a bit further along.
  6. My WLS group's goal for all patients is 3 squares/day. Mind you, by the end of the 2 year program. Obviously I can't get all of my requirements in 3 meals right now, but once I can, I won't need more meals. Their point is, eating 5-6 small meals a day (every 2 hours or so) leads to grazing on food all day. Your metabolism/body gets confused on the nearly constant supply of food source, that it's not able to utilize it properly. Having decent breaks between balanced meals gives your digestive system the opportunity to perform it's sole purpose in the way we were designed to work. Eating smaller, yet more frequent meals may lead to less desirable habits, and food choices, and mindless "grazing".
  7. Which app were you using? Does an alarm go off? I didn't think about this option. I haven't looked lately, but certainly in the beginning, foodie apps didn't fit with my Bariatric way of eating. While I'm still struggling to eat more than 2.5 ounces at a time, regular reminders could be helpful. Though my NUT talks about grazing and dangers of eating too often, so there's conflict.
  8. I'm wondering if anyone else is having "new" experiences with workplace stress. Pre-op, not much turned my stomach. I'd let a lot roll off my back, the small stuff was never an issue. Now 2 months post op, and recently back to work a few weeks ago, I'm finding the tiniest things are mountains for me. I've been so focused on myself, healing, adjusting, and now when I come into workplace drama and blatant lies, I'm utterly overwhelmed. Sick to my stomach, unable to eat, no energy of course, lack of concentration, and completely consumed! This is Not the old me, and I'm lost. Is this part of all the chemical adjustments? Is this because I'm still healing and my body is using it's focus elsewhere? This has kicked my anxiety back into gear, and knocked me off balance.

    Workplace Stress

Well I really appreciate that response @NightPilgrim. And I'll look up your post, thanks! I'm actually getting a mini vacay in two weeks, should be perfect timing. I, too, have been pondering the end of this workplace relationship, but don't want to do it in haste. Thanks!

    Fried pork skins

I've found this weird smell thing with eggs. It was literally the first food I wanted to eat, while on my post-op liquid diet. I couldn't wait to eat eggs. First one, gag! I keep trying, but they don't have the same savory smell and texture I recall from pre-op. Like a scrumptious omelette... Not happening. Disappointing, but barely mentionable in the big picture!! 11. Great suggestions and advice. I've ordered some liquid calcium citrate from Sam's club, Liquid ReViva Calcium. Going to give it a whirl, see if it bothers me. I can't swallow the flinstones, too rough, and the opurity chewables are way too big to swallow. I thought about crushing them and downing them with some mild applesauce to use up the bottle. I opted for the Bariatric multi capsule from opurity in the long run. Thanks y'all!
  12. Alright folks, need some feedback please. I'm almost 2 months post-op, and I'm taking opurity multivitamin, and their calcium citrate, all chewables. Thing is, it's hurting my teeth to chew these things now, and I'm looking for great alternatives. I think it's the citrus, or citric acid. I don't have any other teeth issues, (food or liquid) and I can drink oj. I'm wondering how this Liquid vitamins are, and if anyone has suggestions on either of these. I'm considering Citracal petites capsules. Has anyone else had these teeth issues from chewables??

I've had a few while eating some hummus. There whole crunchy factor was desired with the soft hummus. I couldn't eat more than about 4 it 5 so I don't really think it had any negative effects. Moderation is the biggest factor with everything. If you can eat a whole bag, you might not want to pick it up.

  17. My surgeon said in the hospital that he doesn't worry about his sleeve patients taking pills. That it's mainly a precaution for the bypass patients. Huge pills I use common sense. I take Tylenol, Zantac, using up the rest of my chewable vitamins, then opting for pills/ capsules. I've found the chewable multi vitamin hurts my teeth... ?? If you trusted your surgeon with your life for surgery, why would you not trust their word now? Talk to your surgeon and ask them to answer your questions and explain it to you. They aren't trying to make it hard on you. Mine actually looked at my list of meds and decided whole pills were okay for what I was taking.

  21. Seriously, someone using AMA in conjunction with Hospital and Discharge would mean against medical advice in anyone's eyes who had anything to do with medical field. Totally understandable and justified. He apparently is just using a different acronym. You are brilliant AND look great! No worries!!

    1week post op and hungry

I felt the same way 1-2 weeks out on the liquids. I couldn't figure out why in the world I was hungry. Though, when you start adding foods, that goes away quick. (least it did for me) Try to push through, it gets better. Now I have to remind myself to eat half the time, though I'm starting to figure out when I need to eat now. Get that protein in, it does amazing things!
  24. 5 weeks and 2 days post-op and I'm getting highlights today. I'll let you know if it leads to any hair loss or other stuff.
