    Annoyed....

blatant misogyny?!? i could have sworn both men and women have hormones. in fact, usually when men do something risky (or dumb), the women around will blame it on our testosterone. and laugh. but that's okay, right? but i'm the mysoginist?

WHy am I so scared of a bypass?

not really. her body will slow her activity down too. and even if she does get down too skinny, i'd bet anything that she'll regain after she heals and can eat unfettered again. remember - RNY is not only performed on obese people but also people with no weight problems, but have uncontrollable diabetes. and those people see the resolution of their diabetes and their weight doesn't change much. also remember - RNY works because it "fixes" your set point. if you are 400lbs and can't lose weight, that means RNY will take your set point from 400 to 200 (my example is a male). however, if a patient is 210lbs, RNY will probably put the set point at 200 also. in other words, you lose weight because your body has a new set point it's trying to get to. and the surgery virtually never puts it too low. you DON'T lose weight because of the restriction and calories in / calories out.

WHy am I so scared of a bypass?

to answer your question, CLEARLY you should have had RNY from the beginning. that question has answered itself! the LapBand has been proven so ineffective that it's barely done anymore. and I predict that in 5 years, doctors won't touch the sleeve either because SO many patients (like you) suffer debilitating GERD. let me try to address the fears you listed one by one: 1. i'm afraid i'll never have an ice cream cone again - in my opinion, if the occasional ice cream cone holds that much power over you, you have other food addiction problems you need to address. first of all, dumping is rare in RNY patients. usually around 25% experience it ever. and a lot people who experience it LIKE it because it keeps them off the sweets and avoids regain (something that sounds like it might benefit you too). i have never experienced dumping. and i have no desire whatsoever to eat ice cream. zero. last night there was an interesting dessert placed in front of me at a restaurant. i had a bite purely out of curiosity, enjoyed it, and didn't need/want anymore. best of all worlds if you ask me. 2. i'm afraid of vitamin deficiencies - again, this does not happen to everyone. it doesn't even happen to the majority of people who don't take the prescribed vitamins!!! your doctor will definitely tell you to take a multivitamin for the rest of your life as INSURANCE that it will never happen. but - and this is important - that doesn't mean it's guaranteed to happen if you don't take vitamins. it's still rare. but it is a small risk. so, take a damn vitamin! it's not that bloody hard! it boggles my mind that people who have been heavy their entire lives and suffered thru all that entails can then turn around and whine about having to take a pill everyday. jesus... 3. i fear i won't be a blessing to stop losing weight. - please tell me of any instance, ever... on this website or elsewhere, that someone has gotten RNY and wasted away to anorexia-like emaciation. IT. DOESN'T. HAPPEN. yes you will lose more than the sleeve and a lot more than the lapland. but your weight loss will stop at a healthy level. because your body will tell you (and allow you) to eat more when you reach that level. in less than two months after my bypass surgery, the thing that i marveled at most was how NORMAL i feel. like... the surgery never even happened. i eat the same whole-food, delicious, paleo-style diet i ate before my surgery. can tolerate virtually any food (even beef and salad). i just eat a little less. and I'm rarely hungry and have great energy. no nausea. no throwing up. no GERD. no dumping. please take this website for what it is... a place for people to come and complain and make things into a lot bigger deal than they are. the chances are very high that you will turn out just like me and MOST patients of RNY. just fine. BETTER than fine. amazing actually. i mean, life can't get any worse than what you're going thru, right? so you have to look forward to more weight loss and the complete remission/curing of your GERD problems. what is there to be afraid of? i'd be running towards the hospital right now if i were you!

    Annoyed....

has nothing to do with "point of view". it has to do with her consistently being factually wrong about matters of science, nutrition, and bariatric surgery. sprinkle in an ever-present anti-RNY agenda, and i don't care if she's been here 50 years, wrong is wrong. and where do you get the idea that longevity as a member of a free internet forum correlates to higher scientific knowledge? and i sometimes wonder why Trump is president...

    Annoyed....

you do realize that while yelling at me, you completely repeated and agreed with my argument, right? methinks you're a bit confused as to who is saying what in this thread. try to calm your hormones before you post. either that or you're as dumb as she is...

    Annoyed....

thank you for beating me to this. it is amazing how unintelligent OutsideMatchInside is about bariatric surgery, weight loss, and biology in general. it is disturbing how long she has been in this site spreading misinformation, lies, and her anti-RNY agenda. she needs to be banned, honestly.

Guys who started in the 240s/50s

i wish i did this when i was 270 and it took massive amounts of exercise and dieting just to stay there! took me another 100 pounds before i wised up. a lot of damage to my health, life, and a lot of lost time.
  17. we are all familiar with prepared meal delivery services like Blue Apron, Plated, Peached Dish, etc. but this one seems to take the cake in terms of optimally healthy, whole-food, paleo/keto food. it's called Factor 75. https://www.factor75.com/nutrition anyone try this yet? i know all of these services are pretty expensive, but for us bariatric patients with smaller eating capacities, i bet one meal could serve as two (lunch and dinner). the meals seem to be about 400-500 calories each and have the ideal macronutrient ratio. everything is grass-fed, local, organic. seems like the perfect solution for single (or married) folk who haven't the time to shop or the skill to cook.
  18. JohnnyCakes

Factor 75 - wow, this looks like THE ANSWER!

for those interested - the food is quite good and the portions are about perfect. i get 4 meals a week to supplement my own cooking at home.
  19. and MORE deliberate misinformation about the RNY procedure from the sleever-with-an-agenda-in-chief. you are an endless source of this crap, aren't you?

weed smoker about to get bypass

don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of weed and I'm not telling you to stop smoking it. but 2-3 times a day, all day? come on, friend, you KNOW that is too much. why don't you take this surgery as an opportunity to do a whole body reset/detox. go a month without the ganj. two weeks leading up to surgery and two weeks after. then add weed back into you life at maybe a bit less frequent rate. if anything, it'll help you get higher in the future because your tolerance will lower by giving your cannabis receptors a break/restart. and yes, it will make your surgery safer. the anesthesiologist needs optimal O2 exchange in your lungs and I'm going to guess your lungs are not in optimal condition right now.

    Fueling for 10k

as long as your body is "fat-adapted" (i.e. can access energy from fat stores instead of carb/sugar in the blood or glycogen) then you really don't need to eat anything before a race. just be hydrated with water. when i started doing races, i learned the hard way that all that G2/gatorade/powerbar crap is a detriment. it takes energy to process that stuff - energy you need to run! it spikes your blood sugar then causes a surge of insulin, effectively blocking off access to fat stores. it is because of a decades-long marketing campaign that people think they need all this sugar before (or during) long distance endurance exercise. it's simply not true. if you follow a low-carb diet (does NOT need to be fully ketogenic, btw), and have trained on this diet while running in a semi-fasted state (don't eat for a few hours before running), then you will be able to run all damn day and not "bonk". that said, there is ONE product that can even help those fat-fueled runners i just described. but again, only if you are running and hour or more. it's a technological breakthrough called "superstarch". it's a powder -> drink formula made by a company called Generation UCAN and basically it's a form of slow-release carbohydrate that doesn't affect blood sugars. in fact, even if you are in ketosis, this will not throw you out of it. it's pretty cool. it's been out about 5 years. give it a try if you think you need some extra "oomph" on those long runs... https://www.generationucan.com
  22. if you actually took time to watch the video, you'd know that Dr. Weiner's message is NOT "hey, stomach stretching is a myth, so enjoy all the food you can handle!" he repeatedly cautions that the surgery is not a lifetime cure and that it takes a life-long commitment to healthy eating to have success. he is simply trying to explain that people who regain weight after bariatric surgery do so because of their food CHOICES, not their food AMOUNTS. quality over quantity. if you continue to eat healthy, you don't even need to focus on amounts because your body will give you very clear and accurate "stop" signals. it's when you go back to eating processed food, junk food, and sugar that you can gain weight even at small portions.
