    Surgery didn’t work?

i'm a runner with a resting BPM of 44 and blood pressure of 115/70. but thanks for the recommendation. let me ask you... if you are "doing what your doctor and nutritionist want you to do", and aren't going to take any advice from anyone on here... then what is the purpose of this thread? just to b*tch?

    Surgery didn’t work?

i did read your post. now for you to learn something new... exercise does not cause weight loss. and MORE exercise definitely doesn't cause MORE weight loss. sorry to be the one to dispel this myth for you, but it's been pretty well proven by a lot of credible research. in fact, if you are "slaving away" at the gym, that might be hampering your weight loss even further. that is, if you had a real problem with rate of weight loss, which you do not. i would recommend you stop obsessing and doing something lighter that you enjoy (walking is probably best) rather than "slaving away" at the gym. but what do i know, i'm just an a$$h*le.

    Surgery didn’t work?

now see... pain and throat problems is something to complain about. losing 16lbs a month is not. fact remains that lately there has been a rash of b*tch sessions (mostly from women... conclude from that what you will) about not losing weight fast enough even though they are losing at the rate of 15-20lbs per month. likely because they cruise these forums and see 400+lb men who lose 25-30lbs in their first few months and greedily want the same.

    Surgery didn’t work?

then congrats on fooling yourself. your 16lbs/month is also an excellent pace. try being grateful and stop expecting instant gratification.

    Surgery didn’t work?

you started at a relatively low weight and you’ve lost 30lbs in less than two months. WHAT ARE YOU COMPLAINING ABOUT!?! that is a very good rate of weight loss! when will you 250lb women learn to stop comparing your loss rate to 500lb men?!? this isn’t that hard of a concept. proportionally you’re losing just as fast!

    Going back to work

nice try, tootsie. but it's generally accepted stylistic practice for informal online purposes to not capitalize the first letter of every sentence. and FYI - you should look up the real reason the first letter of every sentence became capitalized in literature many centuries ago. hint: it has nothing to do with "sending a message that another phrase is beginning". (but i am very impressed at your ability to pull official-sounding bullsh*t out of your ass, really)

    Going back to work

good question. but i have 268 "likes" on 235 posts. so apparently some people value my point of view. and my punctuation. p.s. - welcome to the forums.

    Going back to work

mean? when one makes a new thread on this forum, people take time out of their day to read your story. i have read what she wrote 3 times in order to try to decipher what she is trying to say. i shouldn't have to do that. no one should. in my opinion, THAT is what's rude. and it's everywhere on this website. people should pretend as if they received a basic education and use proper english so we, as a culture and society, can communicate with one another more easily. won't help you in life to become skinny if you still sound stupid.
  9. keep an eye on your ego levels going too high as your weight decreases.

    Slow and steady loss normal?

you’re losing 20lbs/month. what did you expect to lose?!? i swear, people will b*tch about anything...
  13. to answer your first question - yes, we do. when people pop off at the mouth spreading false information to prospective patients for no reason, it's definitely something to get worked up over. a skilled surgeon can reverse an RNY. a back-alley Mexican chop-shop probably can't. but again, the RNY is such a superior procedure it is virtually never even ASKED FOR, much less done. compare that to the constant flood of sleeve patients who have to have revision surgery to.... you guessed it.... RNY. second question - yes, ghrelin reduces with bypass. one study showed it reduced MORE than the sleeve.
  14. really? interesting. you should tell that to my surgeon, who told me it is absolutely reversible although no one ever needs it. if you don't know what you're talking about, don't talk.

    Exercise!?! What's that?

what the f*ck does any of that mean?!?

    punctuation is your friend.

    Food intake vs weight loss.

short answer - every cell in your body is DNA-coded for survival, not looking good in skinny jeans. if you don’t give it fuel, it will assume you are going thru a period of famine, and it down regulates every process in your body to survive on little to no food. primarily slowing your metabolism and plummeting your energy so you don’t get up and burn what precious fuel you have left. this is the best way to permanently f*ck up your set point - yo yo and crash dieting, so... EAT REAL FOOD. listen to your hunger signals. the surgery does the job of resetting your set point way lower.. your job is to provide it the healthy nourishment it calls for.

WHy am I so scared of a bypass?

and millions of people who DON’T get gastric bypass also get skin-and-bones emaciated. the surgery is no guarantee of life perfection. mental issues, eating disorders, economic challenges, drug abuse, other illnesses like cancer...... plenty other reasons that might have happened.
  19. thought i'd share some pretty incredible numbers i got back from my last blood draw a few days ago. and compared to 2 weeks pre-op. so about 14 weeks total...... weight: 370 -> 285 BP: 180/120 -> 115/70 resting pulse rate: 72 -> 48 fasting glucose: 125 -> 91 (basically "beginning stages of diabetes" to "can't get much better than that") hBa1c: 7.5 -> 4.9 total cholesterol: 276 -> 156 LDL-C: 201 -> 94 Triglycerides: 140 -> 79 ALT: 64 -> 20 (f*cked up liver to not-f*cked up liver) AST: 103 -> 20 (f*cked up liver to not-f*cked up liver) cortisol: 20.5 -> 6.5 so that's what can be quantified. what can't be quantified is the emotional changes and degree of overall happiness, which are now off the charts. i am also 14 weeks sober, which has never happened for me since i started drinking back in college! (but desperately needed to) anyway, i was a walking time bomb before, but now a walking picture of health. and just signed up for a half-marathon next spring! god bless this surgery. i feel fortunate that the problem i have had my whole life has a medical fix like this. others aren't so lucky. i'll post some pics when i build up the nerve.
  20. let's see: - better weight loss - won't give me debilitating GERD like the sleeve is likely to - better long term sustainability - won't give me debilitating GERD like the sleeve is likely to - better diabetes/blood sugar resolution - won't give me debilitating GERD like the sleeve is likely to - better changes in gut microbiota - won't give me debilitating GERD like the sleeve is likely to - similar reduction in hunger hormone ghrelin - won't give me debilitating GERD like the sleeve is likely to - it's reversible but sleeve is not the question should not be "why RNY?". the question should be "why EVER do the sleeve?".

Guys who started over 400 lbs.

    truly unbelievable.
  22. WRONG. men don’t post much here anymore because women like you just can’t seem to comprehend the notion of subforums. thus ruining the comraderie we are seeking. or you just can’t stop yammering. probably both. go to the Women’s forum...... SEE NO MEN THERE.

that’s amazing! that’s gotta feel weird as hell tho, huh?
  24. JohnnyCakes

Guys who started over 400 lbs.

great post. welcome. unfortunately, even in a forum designated for men with a sticky post telling women not to be here, they swarm here anyway like flies. so rude and disrespectful. and then they go “waaah, i didn’t know! “ - even girl members here for years with thousands of posts say this. funny, as men wouldn’t be caught dead in the Women’s Forum. somehow, we can keep all these tricky sub forums straight! pretty good for us big, dumb lugs! anyway, good luck to you bro. you will figure everything out. bc i can tell you’re an intelligent dude and the weight loss happens slow enough to give you time to adjust mentally. it’s only women who b***h about “i’m losing weight too fast! “. imagine that, women finding something to complain about. even when it comes to this miraculous, life-saving surgery.
