    Excess skin

that’s certainly one option. an even easier option would be for ladies on this website to be courteous and respectful and stop posting in The Guys Room. that would def work too.

    Excess skin

i've heard this excuse before. it's interesting... because us men don't seem to have this same confusion about posts in The Powder Room. isn't that weird?

    Excess skin

all these helpful male opinions makes me glad there's a Guys Room conference, where men can get together and talk amongst themselves about issues that concern them.

    Bypass , sleeve, lapband?

well, technically she asked for “opinions”. not personal anecdotal accounts. i think broader empirical research is more valuable to those trying to make a decision than one-off “worked for me!” stories but what do i know lmao.

    Bypass , sleeve, lapband?

let's stop dealing in generalities and put some numbers to this, backed by research. 25% of RNY patients will ever experience dumping syndrome. and of those 25%, most actually LIKE the symptom because it helps them avoid bad food. whereas 40% of sleeve patients will develop mild to severe GERD that they did not have before surgery. of those, 0% enjoy this symptom and leads to this message board being flooded with posts of sleevers going back to revise to RNY.

    Bypass , sleeve, lapband?

you have two very different options here... 1 - you get the lap-band. it fails. you go get a revision surgery to the sleeve. it fails. you go back for a third surgery to go to the RNY bypass, which works excellently for the rest of your life. 2 - you get the RNY bypass, which works excellently for the rest of your life.
  9. this surgery is kinda sorta made for very large people. they have seen it before. it's bariatric surgery. you'll be fine.
  10. this sounds almost exactly what happened to me. the last time i was able to lose weight (without bariatric surgery) was in 2012. it took me almost 2 YEARS of very, very strict no-carb keto (like spoon-feeding coconut oil) with a lot of intermittent fasting to lose just 30 measly pounds. my will/discipline would not break, so my thyroid did. i woke up one day without the energy to put my socks on. i gained those 30lbs back in about a month. then kept gaining, despite being on Armour thyroid. 20lbs a year for 5 years until i was 370lbs this spring and i finally had enough and got the surgery. long story short, YES, it fixes subclinical hypothyroidism which is what it sounds like you had/have. definitely keep doing deep thyroid blood panels after the surgery, but my thyroid function was completely resolved. my last TSH test (i'm 6-mos post-op) was a 1.5. all the energy and weight loss in the world. it's funny, i asked my surgeon the same thing in our initial consultation. i was like "yes, doc, this sounds great, but my thyroid is f'ed up. will this surgery still work for me?" he didn't hesitate to say "yes. any other questions?" p.s. - i'm really sorry for all the bad fortune you've been thru lately. good lord. please do yourself a favor and get this surgery. you deserve it. p.p.s. - no, malnutrition did not cause your son's cancer. that said, find a top-notch surgeon. do not settle for anything less than the best. even if you have to pay out of pocket. a good surgeon almost ensures no complications. bad surgeon = strictures, leaks, etc.

    5 years out

maybe like an H Pylori infection? this is from the Mayo Clinic: When signs or symptoms do occur with H. pylori infection, they may include: An ache or burning pain in your abdomen. Abdominal pain that's worse when your stomach is empty. Nausea. Loss of appetite. Frequent burping. Bloating. Unintentional weight loss.
  12. i would HIGHLY recommend watching every video on youtube from this bariatric surgeon, Dr. Matthew Weiner. he also has a book called "Pound of Cure" which applies to bariatric patients as well.

Do you have take out/Fast food?

never. just no desire for it at all.
  14. bottles of Isopure. can order cases straight from the company website. fruity flavors and clear. 40g of protein per bottle, zero carbs. they’ve been a godsend for me. i’ve drank 1 a day, everyday, for the 6 months since my surgery. couldn’t have done it without,

    Serious COLD FEET!!!!!

absolutely. x 1,000. watch all of them. then watch them again. by far the best resource to get thru this. for both pre and post surgery. this says it all. the worry definitely WAY worse than the surgery. it's all a mind game. the nurses take such goddamn good care of you, sometimes i wish i could go back and do it again. lol... it was like going to a spa. you GOT THIS, SAMP THE CHAMP!!!!!!!

    Medicine

    maybe. maybe not.
  17. i know of someone, an older lady, who had gastric bypass surgery at a hospital in Georgia. the next day, the daughter brings a box of Cinnabons to her in the hospital room. they proceed to start eating them. she tears open her new stomach and has to go into emergency surgery to save her life, cleaning cinnabons out of her abdomen. moral of the story? there seems to be no limit to the stupidity of most people in this country. it is infinite and almost beyond the imagination. while some bariatric offices are better than others at preparation and patient education, none of that really matters when dealing with the average American. look at our president.

    Need typical day menu

so you've been losing (slowly of late i'm sure) for these two years, and hit a low, and now you've started to gain? everything i've read and been told says that after you reach your lowest weight, it IS NORMAL to gain a bit before your body settles at its long-term maintenance weight. i wouldn't freak out if i were you, though i understand the tendency. i would focus on eating very, very cleanly. super healthy food with an emphasis on vegetables and protein. do NOT starve yourself, go hungry, or for gods sake start something extreme like keto. you are doing great and so far everything that's happened to you is quite normal.

    Need typical day menu

i'm almost 6 months out. every day i have: 1 bottle of IsoPure protein drink (40g protein) 1 individual serving package of plain fat-free Skyr yogurt 1 can of organic refried beans 2 eggs cooked in 1/2 tbsp MCT oil that keeps me full during the day. then i'll eat a light dinner usually of vegetables primary and fish/meat secondary. all in all it's around 1,000 calories/day. not that i'm counting. i don't count calories nor have i ever weighed my food. i put emphasis on having zero sugar, a little bit of good carbs, as much protein as possible, and minimizing fat but not being crazy strict about it. i never cheat. not because i'm awesome but because i have exactly ZERO interest in fast food, sweets, or anything unhealthy. some days my body is more hungry and i feed it. other days it's not hungry and i don't. i think that about 3 months post-op and onward, the hunger cues are very accurate and it's important to listen to them. constant overfeeding isn't good, nor is constant underfeeding. keep it varied, keep your body guessing. i have NOT followed my doctor's advice to eat 3 square meals a day with no snacking. i eat what i described above throughout the day. i see why my surgeon's office recommends that, because it teaches those with bad eating habits to be better. but i don't have bad eating habits, never really have. to me, that schedule creates unnecessary hunger and then the desire to eat too much at meal time. i know i end up eating less overall calories doing it my way than the 3 meals/day way. but everyone is different and has to do what they feel is right and be honest with themselves. (btw - i'm in the 80% percentile of weight loss performance for gastric bypass patients)

    constipation!

one other note... since we're on this disgusting topic: i have never suffered from constipation in my life, and i still don't post-surgery. however, i only take the Browns to the Super Bowl about once every 3 days. that doesn't mean i'm constipated. it just means there's not that much food in there to get rid of. when i do go, it's quite impressive, then it's back to another few days of silence. post-gastric bypass surgery, i wouldn't start thinking "constipation" until it's been 5-7 days. also, water. more water. drink your water.

    constipation!

just convenient. be sure to get the organic cans of refried beans though. the ingredient list should be "beans, water". don't get anything with hydrogenated lard in it. organic refried pinto and black beans has been my #1 "hack" post-surgery. i typically have 1 can a day, spread out over the whole day. i eat a couple spoonfuls every now and then, and any hunger i might have had is completely satisfied. packed with protein and fiber, and slow-release (won't spike insulin) carbs. i crave it everyday. i went from being a huge meat-eater pre-surgery to craving refried beans and skyr icelandic yogurt everyday. who'd a thunk...

    Why Low Fat?

my personal philosophy (and i am NOT an anti-fat believer. saturated and monounsaturated are good for you). HOWEVER: during the first 6 months after surgery, your body has more than enough fat to run on... from you!!! i'm just ending my first 6 months post-surgery (115lbs down) and i have purposely kept any kind of excess fat out. i haven't strictly avoided it, but for instance i get fat-free skyr (yogurt) and trim any visible fat off of meat. go light on the oils. again, the body is getting more than enough fat from your own stored fat cells. it is my personal belief that adding too much fat via diet will slow weight loss during this unique initial period. once i reach my goal weight (new set point), i will make a conscious decision to up the fat content of my diet. because i will NEED more calories at that point, and my body will not have so much ample stores to draw from. so i'll go back to full-fat yogurt, generous olive oil, fattier cuts of meat, etc.
