I think support from the other people going through this is important, and I want everyone to be able to connect with the people who might be going through this at the same time if you want. So this isn't meant to be more than informative in case you want to message or follow people having surgery in July. If I've made any mistakes I apologize, just message me and I can edit the list There are certainly noticeably busy days! If you'd like to be added msg me, again sorry if I got an incorrect date, I just wanted to try and help because there are a lot of threads about July, and it's fast approaching. I finally gave Premier Protein shakes a chance. I picked a 4 pack of chocolate (I'm a chocolate kinda gal)
i might be the only person to think this, but those things are terrible! They're thick and gritty, no wonder people have such a hard time with the pre/post op liquid diets. Now, I'm cheap, and they were expensive, so I did pour them into my morning coffees until they were gone. Long story short-Blech🤢That is all.

You, my friend, are not alone!!! I had to do 2 weeks of Protein preop and 4 weeks of Postop and they were the easiest drink to find. But I didn't like them at all!!! I also had severe "Back Door Trots with them" after all was said and done I talked to my PA about my serious trots and he said you are more than likely Lactose Intolerant!!! Thank you so much 6 weeks of wearing GIGANTO PADS sometimes double if I had to go anywhere. That could not have happened!!! THANKS for nothing!! LOL I now have GENEPRO unflavored that I add to my Espresso every day. If only!!!!

I went to Canada recently and bought the chocolate premier protein ready to drink chocolate drinks and had one a day.... thought they were delish and wish they sold them in the uk!!

Dealing with new attention
DedicatedLady replied to White Sale's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would think if you were single, then appreciate the attention, if someone holds open a door for me, I run the extra step or two and make eye contact and smile. They might just have great manners, but they might think you're hot sh*t! Enjoy It!! I have always been a very forward person, and after gaining over 100lbs when I met my fiance, the only time I really noticed how big I had gotten was when I looked in the mirror, and the comments I made about myself were probably more hurtful than what anybody else would think. I have come a short way on a long journey, but mentally getting rid of my fat barrier is a difficult process. For example, my fiance and I dance around and he dips me, and I instinctively scream in horror, and every time I have to literally remind myself that he is Not going to break his back, and he won't have any trouble picking me up. Its been a difficult mind shift. I've lost excessive weight before on my own, and being 5'10 I was 170lbs (which I carry well thankfully) brought a lot of attention, and yes it gets SO comfortable, people are so nice you don't it to end. You can't help but smile(bringing even MORE attention), I remember that clothes shopping was my reward for hitting weight goals, so I got to walk around in nice outfits, feeling so accomplished about what I had done, and I would intentionally make eye contact with people to see who was looking at me (a tad vain, but it kept me motivated at the time) As for rejecting people, remember to smile, thank them for offering but say you can't/won't at the time etc.. Be really canadian about it, with all the apologies and what not. If someone if uncomfortably flirting with me, I make sure to do the 'thinking pose' while talking, but with my left hand on my chin so that they are blinded by the giant diamond ring on my finger, it typically works -
Pain when taking in liquids
DedicatedLady replied to mpolyard's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had this type of issue, about ten or so seconds after I drank liquids there was a pain on my right side. I noticed it the first night post op. When I took my barium swallow the next day, I watched the screen and saw that my pain was happening when liquids went from stomach to small intestine. My intestine was full of gas and was swollen and was causing the pain. I asked specifically about my pain and he said anywhere up to two weeks I could retain gas. Just my story, thought I'd share hope yours gets better -
Premier Protein!
DedicatedLady replied to UnicornsAndGlittah's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
My pre-op plan (so I'm assuming that carries over to my post-op time) specifically says not to have premier. My point however is that I saw them at superstore today (I was curious..) and they are 4 for $15.25!! I've heard they're good, luckily I enjoy my protein shakes so I'm not too worried, but they do seem to have some interesting flavors in the states -
Congratulations to....

How can spouse help?
DedicatedLady replied to lessoflilo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
-make sure there's no crap food in the house -even if I stop at the chip aisle he'll say "do we need those" to which I pout and answer no. One of the most helpful things is that he understands I can and am going to be emotional about random crap, he knows when to just listen to me be upset with some encouraging words, and when to just hug me and tell me that I'll get over my stall and that it's not the end of the world. I also do my best to be in a very happy mood when I'm with him, because he does so much for me. I've only once had to deal with pizza leftovers in the house. I guess that's another one, we don't eat out anymore, it has saved us a lot of money and saved me agony of not being able to eat anything. He's also lost like 10lbs in the process(didn't need to lose any!) haha -

What was the biggest surprise for you at or after surgery? What do you wish you had known?
DedicatedLady replied to sunmeadow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was excited for something other than shakes just like many people. I had protein shakes and clear water for 3 weeks pre-op, water for 6 days, and then back to protein shakes and clear liquid for 17 days. I had finally made it to the puree stage, it was like waking up on christmas morning. 5 meals of 1oz. a day sounded amazing, until.... >95% of everything I tried to eat came right back up within minutes. The exceptions beings coffee, protein shakes, and oatmeal. After literally spending more time puking than eating. I wish I had known I would lose the desire to eat because of its overwhelming effects of my hunger. (Yes naturally I've spoken with my nutritionist who said it will just take longer, and to stay on a full liquid for another week, which I am doing happily) -

I have the same issues, I combat them as best I can with probiotics that mix into anything, and every day I drink kefir milk to help colonize my GI tract. I also eat prunes occasionally, they are sugar laden but delicious and a great way to handle a sugar craving

Surgery Scheduled for July, Anyone else?
DedicatedLady replied to surviving5's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today is 15 days since surgery, incisions are closed up, glue is off and you don't notice them as much as I thought you might. Everything inside feels good (I've slept on my stomach since day 5 or so). According to post op I'm full liquids until day 17, then purée until day 24, and soft foods until day 40 when I can go back to solids slowly. I've eaten lots of food that had made me puke, but every time it has been my fault ie. having 3tbsp of puréed soup instead of 2tbsp. In the first 2 weeks after surgery I have come down 18lbs, bringing my pre-op+post-op total to -45. If I am bored and at home I think about food, if I'm busy, out,or on a walk I don't even remember that it exists. Oh, and I can't watch tv or read flyers, they stuff so many toxic foods in my face it makes me crazy lol -
Any August sleevers considering Mexico ?
DedicatedLady replied to Ready2enjoylife's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've found my results with post op check ins and general contact from my Tijuana surgery, than I had when I went to Miami for surgery. I would not go back to the US for surgery. -
How on earth is there a minimum number of times someone should be peeing a day? That's like saying everyone should poop at least once a day or else their weirdos. There can't be a minimum on that, where did you get this number from?

It's not that your body doesn't absorb multivitamins at all with food, but it can help certain vitamins be absorbed at a higher rate. However, your body uses iron more efficiently if you take it without food. Despite the benefits of taking calcium carbonate with food, your body absorbs other forms of calcium better on an empty stomach. Similarly, vitamins A and E are both more readily available to your body if taken on an empty stomach. Multivitamins are a little strange to me to begin with, as most of the vitamins interfere with the absorption of other vitamins contained in the same pill. For example, vitamin A shouldn't be taken with calcium or vitamin E because they interfere with absorption, and vitamin D can be taken with or without a meal, multiple times a day if you feel like it. . Anyways, most people spend months on essentially liquids alone, taking them with food is not always an option. I can't have food for 9 more days, fora total of 32 days of shakes. If I ate food with my vitamins I'd puke twice a day.. it may not be as simple as "have it with food"...occasionally my dog doesn't even take a vitamin if I wrap it in a ham slice...

3 weeks post-op diet suggestions
DedicatedLady replied to XRolemodel85X's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'll let you know in 8 days I will be on my purée phase about mid way through. I won't move onto solid foods until day 40, and I may take a few extra days on liquids, I've been getting nauseous quote easily I'm looking forward to Kefir milk during purée [emoji4] -
Swallowing vitamins
DedicatedLady replied to chamilton0323's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ooh ooh story - I didn't have a great surgery experience with pills. We even had a small,uh, "argument" about it. I take 8x300mg tablets, and 5x10mg tablets at once, right before bed. Preop I literally took them all at once with a giant chug of water and then about a cup of water to follow. Moving forward, surgery day-I have to give my nurses my medication dose for the day, then they pass it to me before bed like I'm in a psych ward. That evening the 'lead nurse' comes in, is staring at my pills right before passing them over like there's not a chance. So she starts walking away and I stop her to ask immediately where she's going?! She replied that she was going to "crush them for me".... Were talking 2400mg of slow release anticonvulsants. Honest to goodness, she could google "Trileptal" (its for epilepsy) and it specifics first thing 'Do NOT crush, Do NOT break in half, Do NOT chew".. We argued back and forth for not less than 20 minutes. I more or less took them and told her where to go. I'm 1 week post op, I struggle with liquids still so I take them in pairs or groups of 3, no timing or anything, just within like a half hour period-ish... Back on topic - My multivitamin and CA+D3 go down like butter with a sip of protein shake. -
Sleeve completed 7/6 & they are ready to send me back to work 7/18
DedicatedLady replied to lilbigprsn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe consider looking up Employment Standards in your area. Where I live, if I feel as though I am medically incapable of working because my job would impede my healing, then there's nothing legally that my job can do about it. They can't write me up or fire me. A doctor should have no issues writing you a note? Then again, maybe by the 18th you'll be ready to make it to work, at least you would have a short week . Yeah work isn't always the greatest to look forward too, its kind of like how everyone feels like they want a vacation as soon as they get back from vacation. Read up on your rights, talk to your doctor, give your work notice as soon as you can out of respect would be my advice -
Losing Weight on PreOp Diet
DedicatedLady replied to Old2NewMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went from Canada to Mexico for surgery, and paid everything out of pocket. Trust me, paying $9500.00 is very motivational lol, I couldn't show up and have them deny me surgery, for a reason I was in control of. -
Losing Weight on PreOp Diet
DedicatedLady replied to Old2NewMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You've done fantastic, don't worry at all My personal experience was 4 weeks. 2 weeks of shakes and 3oz piece of meat a day, No carbs at all. No fruit, no potatoes, beans, corn. All sugar out. Followed by a little under 2 weeks of just shakes. Lost 17lbs the first week, and in the 3 weeks following made it -27 in total. I notice a big difference without sugar, weight really comes off. Every person is different! You're doing great Keep it up!
