  1. Hello, I was wondering what the average time off was for post op? I've heard most people go back after a week or two depending on what they do, and just wanted to see if anyone else had longer periods ? I am trying to decide on whether or not I should ask to apply for the short term disability pay Thank you

    WLS before or after children

Hi I haven't had my surgery yet, and I do not have children yet but this was a topic that I looked into as well because I would like to have children in the future. I actually found an article (if I can find it again I'll share it with you) that stated that children who are conceived after the mother has WLS are significantly healthier and less likely to be obese when they grow up due to an activation of certain genes during the fetal growth. Also WLS reduces the risk of needing a c-section. I have a friend who had kids after and her children are healthy... however she got pregnant before the 18 months was up with her first child and she had a few complications with nutrition because her body wasn't ready. Her second child went smoothly like a normal pregnancy. I also know some who are waiting because they don't want to have to lose the weight again after child birth.

Post Op - going back to work

That is great! I am hoping to have it sooner than later because I'm going away for the holiday season, and just want to make sure than I will be able to digest a bite or two of solid food and don't need to take an extra suitcase of protein powders lol They said the insurance company doesn't usually take a long time to respond but I'll feel better having a solid date [emoji4]

Post Op - going back to work

Perfect. I just spoke with one of the HR reps and she said I'll have to use 7 days of sick pay / vacation time and then I will be able to get short term disability, it doesn't pay my full normal pay check but anything is better than nothing I hope I get my surgery date soon!

Post Op - going back to work

I think I may be able to get disability as well, but I am not sure how to go about it. Would I just need to ask my HR department? I have never been out of work for so long.

My Path to a Healthier Me

I am looking forward to it.. I am just nervous that the insurance company will deny me and then I don't know what I'll do. Often people ask me "why would you even consider that?" But I just want to be healthier and feel better. Are there any of the protein powders you find are better than others ? My doctor recommended that I try the bariatric fusion because their store is about 15 minutes away from us, but they close before I finish work so I haven't been able to buy and try it yet [emoji4]

Post Op - going back to work

Thank you [emoji4] my manager asked me today how long I thought I'd be out of work, and I've heard mixed answers.. I'm hoping to be out as little as possible, but mostly I just can't wait to have my surgery done [emoji173]️

Anyone kept their procedure a secret?

I think everyone should tell at least one person. Personally I have told everyone, because it's an important step towards my future. Not just for weight loss but for my health in general. I have had people be supportive, some try to talk me out if it and others just down right negative saying it's a cheaters way to get skinny. But in the end, I think the most important thing is to know that if you are going though it, then you have decided that it is the best option for you and the people who truly care for you will support your decision [emoji4]
