There are so many variations of surgical diet plans on the website. So many people doing many different things. It's amazing. But yours seems a little off. Glad you have an appointment. Concerned you will never get your minimum 60 grams protein without a shake. You need the protein to heal. Btw you might get more answers if you move this thread to the POST-op page.

I drank a cup of decaf day two. No problem. No caffeine. Caffeine is actually a pretty power irritant to the stomach. One of the causes of gastritis. That's no good for a new stomach.

I'm almost three weeks. The gas was bad until day 6. I walked, I drank water. I burped more in 5 days than I have in 43 years combined. Sitting and leaning forward between my legs helped me get it out when it just did not want to come out. Very painful and kept me up at night. So, I said "self, this is stupid, get some chewable gas x." The strips were not working anymore. The chewable gas ex worked like a charm. 2-3 tabs every once in a awhile got me through it. Much better now and no real gas pains.

Get some zofran. i also made a ginger tea. 2 cup water boiling. Add 1 inch fresh ginger smashed. Steep until cool. I made lemon crystal light with the water. I love ginger and I does calm your stomach. -
Call your md and nut. They can help walk you through your options.

Calorie Intake Concerns
Dabearo replied to Txcutie67's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My nut said don't worry about the calories. "Get your protein in, get your water in and Then, get in what ever you can tolerate". She set my macro goals and told me not to go over. -
Conquering the sweet tooth
Dabearo replied to Khaleesi Kim's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Imho, the longer you go without refined sugars the easier it is. The cravings go away and it is easier to avoid it. Additionally, the longer you go without, the worse I feel if I do eat something sugary or heavy carb. I kept low carb before surgery and every once in a blue moon I'd get my fav sandwich from jimmy johns and some chips. Lord within 30 minutes I feel bad and it last for the rest of the day. Then I have to fight back the carb sugar cravings again. Usually not worth it. It does get better. -
RNs, What are you eating during your shift?
Dabearo replied to JDRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Best thing I have read all day. Awesome you! -
Ha, we are in the same boat. 2 weeks post op. One more week of full liquids. I'm hungry! I spoke to Nut today and she said to stay on track for another week and increase my protein as much as I want. i hate sf, ff stuff. I dont find it real food. Frankenfood. Only sf I do is crystal light. So, I make fresh soups and fruit infused waters and teas. ina garten's roasted tomato basil soup is awesome. Easy, puréed and strain through a fine strainer. Love it. I made this before surgery. Adding plain yogurt to bump protein and make it creamier. I made a Thai carrot soup which had peanut butter sauce in it. Amazingly! Epicurous.com has a fantastic black bean cumin jalapeño soups. This ne needed about 1 more cup of water to thin. Add a very small amount of liquid cheese (Campbell's cheese soup). Sour cream. Yummy. i make my own bone broth. No chemicals, good protein and healing collagen. Easy and cheap. I can make a gallon for about 9 bucks. I drink my protein shakes to hit my goal, then have fun. The soups are pretty low carb and fat because I'm only eating 1/2 Cup over 20-30 minutes. Good fiber also, which we need. Frankenfood had no fiber. Obviously I enjoy cooking, so I'm keeping busy tring to be creative. Hang in there.

5 days out, not feeling great at the moment
Dabearo replied to hickoryghost's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Day 5 was my hump day. I felt the worse, I had the least amount of energy, my gas pain were hard, and my mind was like wth. But day 6, all was better and continues to be better everyday. I am struggling with not eating solid food. I'm on liquid/purée for another week. But, my saving grace is I like to cook and feel well enough to so. I've made 3-4 soups to have some real food. I made bone broth which was superior to any store bought chemical laden stock. I focus on getting my protein in for the day and my liquids. The rest of the time I can play around with recipes and spices. Keeps me busy. Good luck and try to get out of your head. It gets easier when you are feeling better. -
2 days post op and I'm a nervous wreck.
Dabearo replied to MadisonJames's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there. Go very slow. Water and maybe some broth. I had to keep remembering this is about healing and nothing else. Take as much protein as possible, but you must stay hydrated. Hydration is really the most important in the first days. Your body has plenty of fat, protein in its stores for a while. It does not have hydration. Dehydration will also lead to nausea and general bad feeling. Good luck and keep us posted. When in doubt call your md. -
I've been infused no wtermelon and lemons into a pitcher of water. Great flavor and detox. Sorry, I know this thread about kcals. Just thought I'd share.

Newbie/Struggling to eat
Dabearo replied to Aaralyn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I literally had a 10 cc syringe. 3 full syringes is an oz. I committed to 1 oz every 15 minutes. This helped me learn what a small amount feels like in my mouth. -
I was just thinking about this today. I miss a salad and something fresh.

Want to burp, feel air bubble, it won't come out, then hiccups, very painful
Dabearo replied to gwbicster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Contact your md. That seems slightly odd. I've been fighting gas for a week, but nothing like that. -
6 days post op. I kinda thought the gas pain would be gone. Tremendous moving gas pains. Once I burp, it's better. But it keeps coming back! Walking a lot and taking gas strips. What was your experience? Anything help you?
-
6 days post op. Still experiencing gas and belching with just about every sip.

We switched to a good decaf awhile back. I could still have coffee.

Good luck brother. The pre-op not to bad. I got bored. Keep us posted.
