100%. Keto totally works for some people but not others. You definitely need to keep track of cholesterol and triglycerides and probably other things I can’t think of since it’s so fat focused. I have lots of friends who do heavy, heavy crossfit on Keto and are doing amazing!!

It greatly depends on your current weight, weight and body type goals, activity level, etc. Your dietician would probably be most helpful. Personally, I track but not really limit my carbs because I do 10 intense work outs a week and the majority come from ancient grains, oatmeal, and dried berries. As long as I’m within my calorie limit and (usually) have protein first, the sky is the limit but that’s what works for me. I cannot do my workouts without carbs or I quite literally pass out and recover more slowly.

    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

I was honestly expecting my brother in law to at least get serious about diet and exercise. Surprisingly there’s no one in my life currently the size/BMI for surgery but my BIL will be if he doesn’t get his **** together. Actually, there’s one person...my mom’s boss and family friend who has type II diabetes and would qualify but instead tries and fails bullshit multi level marketing diets that aren’t sustainable because it’s prepackaged mediocre food. However, I haven’t seen him since losing the bulk of my weight so I don’t know if I could be inspiration. This surgery was amazing for me and I praise it whenever anyone knows and asks or guesses.

    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

I just had my first experience with someone treating me negatively re surgery and weight loss. My sister has clearly become the green eyed monster because I’m down 90 + lots of new muscle, full of self-confidence and people raved about how I looked at her husband’s bday dinner. I was always the better looking, relationship successful sister but when I got heavier I lost my self esteem, haven’t dated since 2009 and she got married. I decided to cut her out of my life for at least a while. She also said the surgery made me skinny even though it was surgery helping me change my diet and doing 10 workouts a week. That belittles how hard I’ve worked. What’s extra silly is she’s naturally thin. She has a much smaller frame while my mom says I’m built like a German (IDK!) and have always been an athletic body type. Why can’t people just be happy for you?

Where are my 5ft tall peeps at?

I’m down 90 and can see some saggy skin. Mostly around my bellybutton. My bellybutton frowns. I plan on a mommy makeover (minus the mommy part) once I reach my goal and can afford it.

Kroger/Ralphs and the vitamin shoppe. Their website provides a list of stockists. If you have a large freezer you can place an order from them.

I’ve lost 90 so far and am getting a little loose skin. Part of it is a 6” vertical bellybutton to public bone incision that is doing this awful valley, butt crack type thing [emoji23] and a little behind my arms where I got some stretch marks and my bellybutton sags a little bit I think some of that is from my gallbladder surgery and hernia. I figure my stomach will look like a bomb went off after my 4th abdominal surgery. Gotta start saving for a mommy makeover.
  9. Honestly, if you can handle nibbles without eating real portions, an unhealthy snack from time to time can probably keep you on track. I nibble on girl scout cookies and tim tams sometimes. Others will disagree. I get a pretty high calorie, high carb, 42 G protein smoothie maybe once or twice a week but it’s only after burning 600-800 calories in a massive workout and it’s a meal replacement.

    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

It’s funny our clothes are still wearable. I’m awaiting incisional hernia repair and not working so I live in workout gear, which gives me more ability to not buy new stuff since it’s so stretchy. However, I tried on my first year law school jeans from 2013 when I was at just a slightly chubby weight. I could yank them down fully buttoned. And my law school suit was like a kid trying on mommy or daddy’s suit. Those two moments were my holy **** moments. I get peeved when people say you’re melting, you’re half a person, or my favorite...do you eat. My BMI is 28. I’m still overweight so eff off assholes. Learn how to compliment in a kind way.

    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

Personally, I eat around 800 on my non-workout days (weekends) but sometimes less depending on how I feel and I’m allowed up to 1500 on workout days because I do two back to back workouts. My weight has slowed significantly but my Hashimoto’s relapsed for an unknown period of time so I was fighting with my thyroid and I’ve been building muscle. I’m down to about 180 and fit in 27 vanity sizing gap jeans the other day so no complaints except my need for a mommy makeover. Developed a complication so solid food is difficult. I vomit A LOT.

The real good are fantastic! I also eat 1/4-1/2. Use the oven or the microwave makes it meh.

My doctor didn’t give me a goal weight till I was like 4 months out. I’m 5’6” so my “ideal BMI” is around 135 but I’m a size zero at that weight so it’s too low. I’m 180 and their goal for me is 160. Building a ton of muscle so I’m mostly going by size than weight. Fit in size 27 gap jeans! Vanity sizing for sure but last time I was a 32/33 there! My body is actually nearly perfect to me except I’m retaining fat in my abdomen and can lose a tiny more in my thighs and biceps.

    Items to bring to hospital?

I used their toothpaste and tooth brush even though I brought my own cause I was so drugged and lazy. Used my phone all night since I couldn’t sleep. Used my iPad the next day because I had to sit with a tray and eat a certain amount of liquids before discharge. Lip balm is the ultimate Went home in the clothes I arrived in. Wasn’t allowed to put on clothes until I was checking out. For walks I wore a second robe around my shoulders plus I didn’t give two shits. No slippers. Used their grippie socks. Brought a book and laptop plus a change of clothes and pull over bra. Used none of it. Also brought my own pillow that I didn’t use till I sat in the chair the following day. My savior was a fluffy throw I brought and held against my stomach during the night. Also, eye mask and small fan to block out all the hospital noises.

    Pizza

I had pizza 4 months out and it was glorious. Ate 1 piece of thin crust, and a second later. It was lower carb pizza. Just counted it in my macros for the day. There’s several fantastic cheese and chicken or cauliflower crust based pizzas that aren’t like the reach thing but flipping fantastic.

    Exercise

The walking only phase was so boring. Not looking forward to it after my open hernia repair. I despise walking as exercise.
  17. I’ve posted about my complications before but things have developed so I thought I’d reach out again. Around 4 months developed difficulty eating except a few safe foods, then eventually developed difficulty with liquids. I vomit at least once a day. My vagus nerve test was good so the surgeon didn’t cut it. I have delayed emptying at 55% but don’t meet clinical criteria for gastroparesis, which is 50% or less. My next tests are an endoscopy for GERD damage, and esophageal motility/manometry test, including a tube in my nose down my esophagus for 24 hrs to measure acid pH. Fun huh? Anyone been in my shoes? It’s unbearable and I’m borderline convinced it’s psychological.
  18. Ruled out stricture, and gastroparesis even though I almost qualify. 55% of food remaining at 90 min and 50% is the cutoff for GP. Also ruled out a vagus nerve injury, which quasi bums me out because no suing my surgeon! (Kidding, kind of [emoji12]) Next month I get an esophageal manometry, another endoscopy, and I have to wear a nasal to stomach/esophageal sphincter tube for 24 hours. Tests pH and esophagus muscles. I’ve read stories about people having some real issues then develop psychological fears of food and liquids. I’m examining physical causes then I’ll start on psychological. I do already take klonopin.

    Exercise

My highest was like 267, 247 at surgery (aug 23), currently 183 but have had huge muscle gains (dietician said I look jacked!!!!) and they told me my goal weight is 160 but I’d prefer 140. We’ll see. The hypothyroid is really a bummer right now. Finally lost a couple lbs after gaining around 5 in a week. Plus I’m always ice cold. In SoCal and I’m under 3 blankets! Hopefully my endo will offer thyroid replacement even though it’s still technically subclinical. You can totally end up like me or better at your preop weight! My goal physique is that of a crossfitter so I expect my weight to be higher than the bullshit BMI scale says is appropriate.
  20. I don’t know what the 100% facts are but I’ve read several articles that your stomach stretching is a myth. It probably can eventually considering morbidly obese can have football sized stomachs but I believe the surgery removes much of the stomach that expands. I forget the scientific name.

    Hair loss

I’m in the same boat plus my Hashimoto’s has flared so I have autoimmune hair loss as well! Some of it should slow once my thyroid normalizes but my dietician said the hair loss can last a long time. She said I’d notice baby hairs around a year. This chick can’t afford extensions for volume! [emoji24]

    Pulled Pork

Tried pulled pork maybe 3-4 months out. Ate very little and slowly.
  23. I go every day and I’m on low fiber due to complications. Bright bleeding is poops that are too hard and/or hemorrhoids. The suppositories work the best...you just have to be brave and stick em up your bum! I’d try miralax 1x a day with water if you can handle it, crystal light, or my personal fav, 1/3 apple juice, 2/3 water.
  24. KateBruin

    Exercise

5-6 weeks nothing over 10 lbs. Besides lifting my brat 25 lb dog I 100% complied. I already have an incisional hernia that needs repair scheduled next month and I refused to get a second one. Never heard anything about weights and a stall. You will need to increase your macros though. As soon as I could i continued my HIIT routine. first twice a week, then 3x and now that I’m almost 6 months out I do two a days 5 days a week. Put on a ton of muscle and I’m down 85 lbs to about 185ish. Hashimoto’s hypothyroid relapsed so the past two weeks have been iffy.
  25. Type I is the more classic bipolar you think of with the sky high highs. II is more mild and you get hypomania. Personally, I’m rapid cycling and normally mostly depressed bipolar but last time I adjusted meds I would cycle between the two probably 50 times a day. Bipolar II is kind of baby bipolar but still put my in the psych hospital when I was 17.
