I’m a year and a half out. I never truly felt full until I got to soft/solids. I think I was told about 2 Oz for snacks and max 6 for meals. I measured everything until I developed complications because now I can barely eat liquids or solids so I eat whenever I can.

I got sleeved August 2017 and had my first drink on thanksgiving. It was marvelous. I drink 1-2 glasses of wine or gluten free beer daily. Biggest concern is empty calories and it can cause reflux. Vodka is the MVP for calories. Otherwise just count it in your log.

Looking for Los Angeles doc for revision
KateBruin replied to kah1213's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Saw Burch today. I’d kiss that man on the face. He’s so wonderful I’m surprised he’s a surgeon. Drew pictures of bypass and handed it to me and I jokingly asked him to sign it so I could frame it and he did and even wrote 1/1 on it. The most personable surgeon I’ve ever met. -
I do 2 scoops vanilla whey and don’t weigh out but add honey, almond milk, Greek yoghurt, peanut butter powder, a banana and strawberry plus differing amounts of ice depending on whether the strawberries are fresh or frozen. It makes a large smoothie so I put it into cups and eat it like ice cream after my initial shake. I got the recipe from my smoothie place. They call it PB&H. It’s delicious and extremely high in protein.

Looking for Los Angeles doc for revision

Please, PLEASE stay away from Dr Chen. I used to call him the zen master and now he’s a nightmare. He had the nerve to write possible Münchausen syndrome (NOTHING to support it) in my medical records and now I have this black stain following me forever. He wants me to keep suffering with GERD. Had bravo and normal is something like under 15 and I’m 50-60 so I 100% have it. He says at least 6 more months. It’s been a year and a half of suffering. Meds stopped working. -
Looking for Los Angeles doc for revision
KateBruin replied to kah1213's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Have you seen Dr Burch? Dr Chen at UCLA has been a total bastard that is way too long of a story to type out and even though I wake up choking on vomit from GERD he keeps pushing back bypass and recently had the balls to say I have Münchausen in my medical records but not to my face. I see Dr Burch Wednesday! I’m praying he can help me. Cedars is a horrible hospital but my GI doc and a LINX surgeon at UCLA both sing his praises. -
Modesty question
KateBruin replied to TakingABreak's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I bought shorts for the first time in at least 10 years. Started with 4 in inseam and now I wear tiny booty shorts to HIIT and 2.5” inseam shorts. I have bad inner thigh stretch marks but I don’t care! I worked my ass off (literally) to get the legs I have and I’m certainly going to flaunt them! Bought my first swimsuit since pool physio in 2007. It’s a 1 piece but I’ve had 4 abdominal surgeries, one 3 months ago (hernia repair) plus have loose skin so a bikini won’t ever happen. -
I just split a small popcorn with my mom and add no butter. That’s my only movie snack even before surgery. Though, I recently got a kid’s icee at the movie and it was flipping fantastic.

When will it stop hurting to drink water?
KateBruin replied to Elle E's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my sleeve in August and I still can’t drink pure water. In a pinch (like a restaurant) I’ll sip on it but my daily water has to have crystal light or it’s painful. Sometimes even the CL water is. It’s a thing but I don’t know why. -
Any Gastric Sleevers 300 pounds or less before surgery lose 100 pounds afterwards?
KateBruin replied to Beta98's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had surgery end of August and lost 107 lbs. I was 267 and got down to 160. However, I’m about to gain 20-50 lbs on steroids. That’s fun. Anyway, it can happen. My doctor claims I have 25 lbs to go but my friends say they’ll send me to eating disorder treatment. I wear a size 25 at the gap! -
Anyone in the same boat as me...I finally bought shorts for the first time in 10 years! It feels like a huge milestone in my weight and self esteem

I’m in the valley in southern CA and it’s already 90 degrees. I’ve worn shorts every day I’ve left the house (hernia repair, still struggling almost 4 weeks out). At first I was super self conscious of my thigh stretch marks but finally said eff it. Last night did a self tan and felt like a million bucks. Down 102 lbs and these days it’s the little things that bring me so much joy. I can walk around with no blisters in my inner thighs from chafing. A dress next but I still have belly fat to lose.

Period during surgery?
KateBruin replied to Sunshineprincess's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The nurses seriously deal with way more disgusting things. I’d rather deal with a woman on her period than get pooped, peed, or puked on. Half the time I’m post op I’d just walk around naked if there weren’t other patients and just nurses/assistants. -
I’m also going to add that I wish edibles gave me more munchies. Some days I eat nothing because of surgical or coincidental complications that make eating much of anything and drinking extremely difficult. Sleeping next to the toilet difficult. I need to eat more to keep losing so bring on the munchies.

Period during surgery?
KateBruin replied to Sunshineprincess's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I take back to back birth control and never get my period. Night before I had questionable spotting then the night I was in the hospital got a light on. I don’t think they cared during surgery and after I got super sexy mesh undies and a HUGE pad. It was the stress of surgery. I even needed the nurse to help me place the pads every time because of pain. Don’t fret. It happens plus they’ve all dealt with pregnant women at some point and they bleed much more. At first I was embarrassed then I didn’t give two you know what’s. -
Day 2 Post Op horrible gas pains !
KateBruin replied to Jillianm17's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So I had the sleeve in August and hernia repair almost 3 weeks ago. It took a solid 3-5 days for the gas to go then you get more gas from not pooping. Take miralax twice a day! Last surgery both gasses took 8 days to go away. -
I chewed gum right away but didn’t swallow it. I think some of the theory is it can trigger hunger hormones. For example, it can trick your vagus nerve into thinking you’re eating and pancreatic enzymes increase. Don’t know if it is significant though. Just don’t swallow the gum!
-
I’ll do that as soon as I can bend down to get my laptop out of my hospital bag! Had incisional hernia repair Tuesday and I feel like I’m dying. Dramatic, yes but it’s that bad. Doctors are some filthy liars!
-
I don’t even know how to do that.

I feel you and min is noticeably thinner but I tell myself it’s temporary. I wear my hair down or in a scrunchie as often as possible to reduce additional tension alopecia.

What's wrong with a straw?
KateBruin replied to logicwand's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They remove most of the stretchy part of your stomach. It might expand slightly and temporarily with carbonation or a straw but it isn’t permanent. It seems like a scare tactic like my surgeon’s tale about a guy from up north who ate a burrito on his way home and died. Next time it was magically a burger. I called him on it and he fessed up. Besides, I burp up carbonation. Burp like a drunken sailor and it’s gone. -
Massive gut not shrinking
KateBruin replied to Walter.Sobchak's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I love hip thrusts. I use Aussie fit torsion bars and put my feet up on the edge of a rower. My hips bruise a bit but i hardly notice. -
Haha my hairdresser knows everything!

Massive gut not shrinking
KateBruin replied to Walter.Sobchak's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My stomach has gotten much smaller but so far it’s the last to go. My arms and shoulders look amazing but the abdominal fat is lingering plus some loose skin. However, it is how I’m built. Stomach has always been the last to firm up even when I was on multiple sports teams and lifted heavy weights. It will happen eventually. For everyone losing their butts...squats, deadlifts, hip thrusters! The heavier the weights the better!
