No water 13 hours pre op??

Sorry, plus I'll also add I think it's all a little BS. They do emergency surgeries on people who just ate and drank. It's just to reduce complications since it's elective and planned

No water 13 hours pre op??

I'm liquids up to 2 hours before surgery and I'm required to drink this higher carb/sugar pre-op designed drink on my way to the hospital. Guess it helps your blood sugars and metabolic function stay more stable during surgery.

    July Sleevers!!!

Core protein elite is delicious too. For a dessert treat I occasionally drink the strawberry banana which has more sugar but I just count it in my daily allowance.

    July Sleevers!!!

I wonder if these surgeons require different preop diets for different patients or if each program just has its protocol. Seems cruel to require pre-op liquid unless you need to shrink your liver.

    July Sleevers!!!

It has something to do with producing better surgical outcomes. It provides your body with the energy it needs to get through the surgery better.

    July Sleevers!!!

You weren't replying to me but I'm just a light breakfast (eggs or whatever) and liquids for one day before like I was getting a colonoscopy. Then I drink this high sugar ensure on the way to the hospital.

    MRI Required?

No MRI for anyone I know. Depending where you live there wouldn't even be an option for MRI because of weight limits [emoji57]. Usually just a chest x ray. I had a chest CT for unrelated stuff so I didn't need one.
  8. Didn't have a c section but I have a 6" vertical scar from belly button to pubic bone from a spine surgery so it's similar to c section. No sleeve yet but the gallbladder removal was a party compared to the back incision. I was basically up and dancing to the bathroom as soon as I woke. Had some soreness while sitting that required oxy but that's it.

    July 31 I'm getting sleeved

I'm July 31 as well! In Los Angeles at UCLA. No pre-op diet but I eat about 100 g of protein a day and take BCAAs. Had my pre-op 2 1/2 weeks ago.

    July Sleevers!!!

With my surgery a little over 3 weeks out I seriously feel for all you guys on liquid diets. I've added protein shakes to mine, as well as BCAAs but that was at my discretion and in addition to my normal diet. Stay strong everyone! Remember, vodka has no carbs! [emoji6]
  11. Oh ya. My doctor made that clear. My insurance only requires 3 months so I literally saw him for my consult/month 1, then my GP for blood work and clearance/month 2, and surgeon for pre-op/month three. Surgery is the 31st. I only met with my dietician once and very quickly but I think they basically considered me already compliant because I eat an 80% good diet and do hardcore workouts. Not everyone needs closely monitored weight loss once the dietician gives general meal plans. I never drink but I'm on vacation and discovered vodka is zero carb [emoji15].
  12. My surgeon stressed this at my consult but he told me I could see my GP or him and that seeing both would just be a waste of money. That's shitty of your surgeon's office to drop the ball or not emphasize that you need to see someone every single month. Actually, (vodka brain talking, sorry) did you complete all of your required months then not see anyone after? Or was it 2 months during the 6 months or whatever your requirement is?

    VSG & autoimmune diseases?

I take my Humira 8 days before surgery then delay a week and take it two weeks after surgery to give my incisions time to heal. My rheumo wasn't concerned at all.
  14. I understand your struggle. Not only did it make me ravenous but if I ignored the craving it gave me horrible anxiety and dread. I tried my best to keep healthy snacks but it always made me crave naughty foods.
  15. I quit seroquel a few months ago. I have surgery 7/31. It made me gain 100 lbs and I was ravenously hungry at night, which is when I took it. Lost 40 lbs since stopping but it's pretty much permanently destroyed my metabolism. I highly suggest coming off it or switching drugs if possible. I experience trouble sleeping due to insomnia plus mild mania without it but the weight loss, lower BP, etc is worth it.

    Numbness?

One of my gallbladder incisions (the biggest one) is still numb 8 years out. My 6" back surgery stomach scar is creepily numb 10 years out. It's just the scar tissue has no nerves so it depends on how much you form.

    Sleeping after surgery

Haven't had my sleeve yet (July 31) but I side/stomach slept the night after my gallbladder surgery as I'm a ride or die stomach sleeper. Try side sleeping with a body pillow.
  18. Depending on your health, your doctors protocol, and what you've had done recently you'll get an EKG, chest x ray, endoscopy, CBC, and a whole bunch more blood tests, possibly a sleep study if they think sleep apnea is a possibility, ummmm that's all I can think of because I just needed a couple blood tests and an EKG since I see a rheumatologist frequently. You want to eat well, and work out however much you can. You may or may not get put on a strict liquid diet a few weeks before surgery. Your weight isn't TOO high so maybe not as it's to shrink the liver. My doc just requires liquids the day before like I'm having a colonoscopy. Study the surgeries. You do NOT want a band. It isn't done by reputable doctors anymore as the side effects can be severe up to and including eroding your stomach, requiring a band to sleeve/bypass surgery. If you don't have GERD you'll want a sleeve. Bypass is generally reserved for the extremely obese or those with reflux. It causes malabsorption and you will never be able to have sugar again or risk explosive diarrhea and vomiting (dumping syndrome). Sleeve doesn't have that complication. I haven't had surgery, it is scheduled for July 31 but Ive completed all my pre-op requirements so I'm knowledgeable and am here if you have any questions. My mom doesn't support me. She says she supports me but not my decision so I know how you're feeling. Oh, a reputable program will also have you meet with a therapist for a psych evaluation. Make sure you understand the gravity of the surgery and all that.
  19. I was told no birth control 2 weeks prior to surgery and no BC 6 weeks later plus no getting pregnant for at least a year. And, you would have to use BC and condoms because BC can be less effective as you lose weight. The no BC is to avoid blood clots so I am ignoring the order as I plan to be active as soon as I wake from surgery. I recently had to stop BC for 4 weeks and I felt like I was dying. So screw that! I'm single but I need it to control my periods.
  20. I tried to search ucla and my surgeon Dr Chen at the UCLA COMET center and couldn't find anything. So, anyone have experience with either? I'm scheduled for July 31 and have met all of my requirements except final post op. During the required pre-op class I was told we all spend the night in Gonda, which is their observation or treatment ward. Was curious what that was like. Any experience welcome!! Anxious and excited.

    Anyone get surgery at UCLA?

Thanks everyone! I had my final pre-op with him Thursday and assuming my insurance approves me, I'm all set for July 31. Dr Chen is funny and seems like he really knows his stuff. Staying in the observation unit had me less freaked out once my friend told me it's set up like the ER where you have your own glass wall room but it isn't like the other wards.

    Endoscopic Sleeve

I know. For some reason my part saying the sleeve scars are the same as my gallbladder and not a big deal got cut off. My point still stands that I wouldn't want to be a guinea pig for endoscopic
  23. Also keep in mind that studies have shown smart watch exercise tracking apps all overestimate calories burned. Some are worse than others.

    Protein shakes

Core power elite, which has no added sugar and has 42 g protein, isopure ready to drink that looks like juice or Gatorade, muscle milk pro, and oh yeah, both in any flavor but cookies and cream is my favorite. I buy all but core power at the vitamin shoppe and core power I buy on Amazon. My favorite is to freeze them and they end up having a slushee consistency once they defrost a bit. I'm not even post op nor do I have a pre-op liquid diet and I drink about 2 a day. Yum.

HELP! BCBS 6 Month Nutrition Requirement

My final appt is Thursday. I've seen people with FEP get approved in about a week. Probably depends on your surgeon's office. UCLA is typically on top of getting approvals quickly. My surgery isn't scheduled until a July 31 so I have a cushion.
