I HAVE GIVEN UP ON DRINKING WATER!!
KateBruin replied to dreamingsmall's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Jet.com seems to have the best price on hint. I can't get into coconut water unless it has guava or something in it. My absolute favorite is le croix but I know no bubbles for a while after surgery. -
I HAVE GIVEN UP ON DRINKING WATER!!
KateBruin replied to dreamingsmall's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I really enjoy hint water cold or room temp. Maybe the flavor will trick your brain into thinking it's something else. -
The best are oh yeah one bars and optimum nutrition cake bites. Oh yeah has 1 g sugar 22 G protein and taste amazing. The cake bites taste like dessert have 5 g sugar and 20 g protein. All the flavors of both bars that I have tried are amazing. My fav oh yeah are blueberry and maple donut. Yummmm

I'll just add that I'm awaiting or possibly just got (not sure as I'm on vacation) approval and they needed 3 years of weight so I had to go back in my records. My BMI was 34.7 3 years ago but I don't think I'm really concerned as I'm 38 now and was like 44 when I started the process 3 months ago. We'll see as I'm supposedly still on schedule for July 31.

Insurance requirements for Anthem BCBS
KateBruin replied to Ready2sleeve17's topic in Insurance & Financing
If you just started and you need it by dec 31 you might not make it. I think I'm like $800 short of my max out of pocket and medi-cal should take care of the rest. Make sure you ask your scheduler to make a tentative surgery appt before the end of the year. Mine make a 7/31 appt like 2 months in advance because I was already meeting all but 1 requirement. -
Anthem Blue Medi-Cal California
KateBruin replied to littlebearsmom25's topic in Insurance & Financing
35-40 BMI medi-cal will cover with 6 months supervised weight loss. You might have a hard time finding a surgeon who will do it if that's your primary. Medi-cal is my secondary so they just pickup what is leftover. -
If you don't own a scale and why?
KateBruin replied to Cateyez001's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I got a scale when I started the process to track the weight loss they wanted. However, I mostly go by body measurements, increase muscle, and how my clothes fit. Weight is tricky, especially once you workout and gain muscle. -
One week post op questions! :)

There's a decent protein water. It feels a little thick but goes down okay. -
Cardiologist Appointment
KateBruin replied to graziellabs's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sure you've had your exam by now but my cardiologist just did an EKG and an echo just because I have unexplained tachycardia and they wanted to make sure my heart and aorta were structurally sound. -
Submitted me doc referral .
KateBruin replied to shayla78's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine is 3 months but most seem to be 6. Whoever is the scheduler at your surgeons office should be able to tell you what the requirements are. There are usually a bunch. -

Liquid phase postop

I'm honestly being a bit naughty on vacation but I'm doing my best to count my bad foods (fish and chips) in my daily calories. -
If you guys are having issues regulating your thyroid on synthetic meds, try natural ones. Some people have issues converting T4 to T3 or whatever and need natural meds or a T3/T4 combo.

Pulmonary Embolism After Surgery
KateBruin replied to Parrot's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think the risk for clot is relatively low without personal or family history as long as you take frequent walks. My dad has history of blood clots so I will be walking as soon as I wake up. My lungs are already scarred to **** because of some previous illness or exposure to something so I don't want to mess around. Just make sure you're really conscious about leg pain and any chest pain/difficulty breathing. -
Liquid phase postop
KateBruin replied to Old2NewMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 2 weeks clear liquids, then a period of full liquids, then purée, then soft and at like 6 weeks solid food. I forget exactly cause my directions are in CA and I'm on vacation in cape cod. UCLA has never had a pouch leak so they're pretty strict on the liquid period since the first 10 days or so you're at risk for leaking, which is an emergency. I feel like the stages after that are slightly less important and more about developing good habits before you're set free on solids. Luckily I already drink 2-3 protein shakes a day as I'm an avid weight lifter. -
No water 13 hours pre op??
KateBruin replied to Joe's wife's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've always been told to stop drinking at midnight or 8 hrs before surgery and technically it's been fine but I'm such a hard stick even if I'm hydrated that dehydrating me for 12 hours or so before surgery is tough on my arms and the staff. You get tons of fluid during surgery but they need IV access for that. They nearly can't unless I'm hydrated. I have literally 1 vein in my left arm the nurses can find and that's if I'm hydrated. -
Ya, I get the rx for vials and needles from my PCP. I think you can also buy them from some medi-spas cause I've seen them advertised on living social or Groupon.

Probably depends on your state. Medi-Cal pays with 6 month supervised weight loss blah blah. You also might find it extremely difficult to get a surgeon who will do it with Medicare as primary insurance. Medi-Cal is my secondary insurance so it basically just picks up whatever co-pays my primary requires.

When did you start working out after VSG
KateBruin replied to shericrazylady's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Did you do crossfit before your surgery? I do a really intense HIIT workout and I'm anxious and depressed thinking about not going for 6 weeks. I'm hoping once I have the surgery (July 31) and my incisions heal I'll get the okay because I was doing it before. They're my community much like I hear crossfit is. -
I haven't had my sleeve yet but I love b12 shots. I already have an issue absorbing sublinguals. I just give myself a shot once a week.

No water 13 hours pre op??
KateBruin replied to Joe's wife's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm supposed to drink something very similar on my way to the hospital. It's ensures pre-surgical line. It sounds like it is to stabilize blood sugar, metabolism, etc during surgery and supposedly leads to better outcomes. Don't know if it's true but can't hurt so I'll drink it. How was the taste of yours? I think ensure's has fruit juices so should be good. -

KateBruin replied to Joe's wife's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Water passes through your stomach so quickly anyway. If you drink right before being admitted, you still have a couple hours before they cut you open. UCLA is something like top 5 in GI and in overall hospitals so I trust them to tell me pre-op guidelines that are safe. Dehydrating me will just make me a super difficult stick.
