    Waiting for insurance

I think I'm going to call my insurance tomorrow and ask to talk to my case manager. I don't have any sort of pre-op diet except eating well and working out but I still need more heads up. Personally, I feel like I need to get in the final headspace of permanent life altering surgery. Sure, my brain knows it's going to happen eventually but I just need a few days to a week to get my life in order. I suggest calling yours as well. Or at the very least your surgeon's coordinator. I don't know how long your diet is for, but it's seems unnecessary to start it unless you're approved.

    1500! Calorie diet

Not everyone has to shrink their liver. I don't. It's all dependent on things like weight, length of time at weight, etc.

    1500! Calorie diet

My surgeons office gave me 1500 calories a day but only because I do a hardcore workout 5x a week where I burn about 500-600 calories. Otherwise I would be on 1000-1200. I don't need to shrink my liver. If you need to shrink your liver I'm a little surprised you're on 1500 calories and not on a liquid diet. However, different docs do things differently.

    Waiting for insurance

I'm in the middle of a bullshit waiting game with BCBS FEP. I was scheduled for surgery July 31. Three weeks ago the scheduler called me and said insurance requires 3 years of weights and was missing 2015. I had a cervical cancer surgery so I emailed that pre-op weight immediately. 2 business days before surgery they call and say surgery is canceled because insurance just called and requires a letter from my psychiatrist. The one they've been paying for for 6 years + the one before + my meds EVERY month. Insurance apparently has 15 days to review. Tentatively scheduled for August 23 pending insurance approval. These bullshit hoops are exhausting. I need at least a week to fully mentally prepare for surgery.

    Any good protein shakes ?

Be careful with core power because unless you get core power elite, it has a bunch of sugar and carbs. I love the elite though. Just so people know, the ingredients in premier aren't fantastic and are known to give people awful GI side effects. 🤢[emoji90]. I drink the chocolate but regret it.

    Waiting anxiously

Good luck! Two business days before surgery my insurance suddenly demanded a letter from my psychiatrist even though they requested 2015 weight two weeks earlier [emoji57]. Just insurance being shady so surgery was canceled. Hope it goes better for you!

    I'm so overwhelmed

I had my final pre-op appt about 2 months ago and was scheduled for July 31 but insurance being insurance gave me a 12th hour extra requirement. So now I'm tentatively scheduled for Aug 23. I have spondyloarthritis, which is similar to RA without rheumatoid factor plus I most likely have Bronchiolitis Obliterans [emoji58] Know you aren't alone. My doctors all think that surgery will help reduce my symptoms. Neither disorder has a cure and BO is progressive and potentially deadly. You'll need someone to drive you home (obviously) and will probably have to stop every hour or so to prevent blood clots plus sitting is uncomfortable.
  8. You aren't the only one. I try and stick to vegan protein and paleo protein both work. When I'm too lazy to make a shake I drink a premier but usually regret it. No clue why.
  9. No, my phone alerted me because my settings got glitchy. I'm not willing to meaningfully engage with someone who is as aggressive as you just got, right off the bat, with a total internet stranger.
  10. Have a protein shake dude. Your blood sugar is low.

    BCBS Federal Approved :)

For now. I'm going to call insurance tomorrow to at least see if they will say if this is the last hurtle. Meanwhile my mom is trying to talk me into getting the balloon done instead because the sleeve is super scary to her.

    BCBS Federal Approved :)

I wasn't approved but I wasn't not approved. Surgeons office called me today canceling Monday's surgery because insurance suddenly wants a letter from my psychiatrist saying he has been and will continue to treat me and has a medication plan for me. It's just insurance dragging their heels because I've been seeing my current psychiatrist for probably 6 years and saw one for many years before that and have been 100% medication compliant the entire time so there's no reason why I wouldn't be now. He is writing me the letter but insurance won't be able to approve me in time for Monday so surgery is pushed back at least a month because I have to wait for approval then get back on the surgeons schedule. I'm totally bummed.

    BCBS Federal Approved :)

I'm waiting on my final approval. Scheduled for the 31st and last week the scheduler called and needed me to submit a weight for 2015 because they just needed 3 years. BMI was like 34 then but was 41 on my first Surgeon visit. Can't decide if I should bug them as soon as it's business hours or wait a couple days. I don't want to get all my post op supplies if they have to push it back.

    Weighing yourself naked :)

I just weigh myself in light (probably a couple oz) PJs first thing in the morning after I pee and I'm my lightest. Unless I'm wearing winter clothes and boots, clothes won't make enough of a difference. At least in my mind [emoji854]

    3 Month Supervised Diet Question

I was told to lose between 12-25 lbs and I lost 30. They really didn't seem to care how much weight I lost.

12 More Days until I'm Sleeved

Me too! In Los Angeles. Getting nervous. I fly back home from vacation Monday and have to squeeze in 4 doctor appts (rheumo, cardio, pain, psych) all unrelated to surgery but necessary since I won't be able to drive for a week or two. Good luck!!!

    Stage 3 babyfood

Depends on your surgeons schedule. That would count as puréed food and I don't think I'm allowed that until weeks 3 or 4. But really, the first 10 days or so are when you're most at risk for stomach leaks. After that it seems more like reintroducing everything very slowly.

    Advice to anyone pre-op

I started HIIT in February and it has become one of the most important things in my life. After my surgery on the 31st I'll probably stop by classes and just do the cardio so I can stay with my people. I'm worried about losing strength and progress so I'm going to consume about 150 g of protein.

    July Sleevers!!!

Yay! Mostly good news minus the hernia! I'll be in the same boat. Massive lower abdomen scarring from back surgery and stomach area scarring from gallbladder. Plus a hernia above my belly button from an incision that I can't fix till I'm below 30 BMI. That's what finally pushed me to get the sleeve. It looks like a fist sized tumor. Hope your recovery continues to go well!
  20. Sorry, I just assumed people knew the pros, which are pretty much the same for both so I just went with the cons. Have you had your surgery yet? Mine is a week from Monday. I don't have official word on approval but the scheduler just said they only needed 1 more year of weight, which I provided BMI was like 34 then but it was 3 years ago. My only real concern with surgery is infection as I take humira.

    July Sleevers!!!

Good luck! Mine is the following Monday.
  22. Both. You or someone else told me to do research. I've done a ton a research AND got facts from one of the USA's best hospitals. I never once said RNY is a bad surgery. It's called pros and cons. I'm also pretty sure I called RNY the gold standard, implying that it has a long safety record.
  23. Ya, too bad not only I have done hours and hours upon research but I got most if not all of the information from the 5th best hospital in the country. My hospital has never had a single leak ever in its history. Ever. It's a risk, but with a good hospital, negligible. I feel too crappy to argue with you people today. My surgery team will be stoked to know you call their top 5 in the nation information drivel. Cheers mate.
  24. Bypass is the gold standard as it's been around for longer but now sleeves are almost always done over bypass. Bypass creates an artificial valve in your stomach that can be prone to ulcers and strictures so you can never take NSAIDS ever again. Bypass is also guaranteed to cause malnutrition for life and many people lose a lot of hair. Plus dumping syndrome so you can really never have processed sugar again. (Not that you should but it's something to consider since no one is perfect) Sleeve has no real downsides besides possibly causing GERD. If I'm remembering correctly, sleeve has slower weight loss but people with sleeve and RNY generally lose the same % of excess weight.
