    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

I honestly think I’m not eating enough as well. I started interval workouts again today and everyone went on about how amazing I look so that felt really good since it’s hard to really see when I see myself every day. I’m allowed solids this week and also have been allowed up to 1100 calories but today/yesterday (Monday/Tuesday morning) I only ate about 300 calories and worked off at least that much with a 30 min hard workout + 80 minute dog walk. I’ll most likely have another protein shake and snack but that will still be 600 max. Totally having half an in n out burger protein style later today though. I’m so excited.

    Carbonation after WLS?

Me too. My NUT wants me to switch to the natural stevia flavored crystal light though. Without crystal light I’d be so dehydrated since drinking water feels so heavy.

What did you take to the hospital?

I stole one of the hospital pillows and hugged it on the way home with a barf bucket in front of me. That was fun.

    2 Week Follow Up

I need a schedule for eating. It makes me sound like a lazy POS but I’m currently not working since I got diagnosed with autoimmune + sleeve + hernia repair once BMI is below 30. I have insomnia and stay up really late and can sleep till 2-4pm. Messed up, I know. I end up eating one snack, 2-3 protein shakes and dinner around midnight. I wake up and feel so behind on my day.

    Tmi!!!!!

As I said above I seriously recommend 1-2 drinks with miralax a day. I’ve been 100% regular since and there was no pain, urgency, etc. it gets **** moving ([emoji854]) with no pain.

    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

I’m exactly the same as you. Sleeved same day and I’m down almost 27 lbs. some days I lose a lb a day and some I totally stall for days at a time. My NUT said under 900 is acceptable and 1100ish when I add crossfit tomorrow. I also feel like a failure. Everyone seems to lose so much faster. I can’t function on under 700 calories. My blood sugar or BP gets low and I have no energy and almost faint. I’ve been buying clothes in smaller sizes but I feel like I’ll never reach my goal. I technically have 100 lbs to lose but already look like this... I’m here for you if you ever want to PM and discuss diet, exercise, frustration, whatever.

How many calories do you eat per day?

I honestly don’t understand how you guys eat 300-600 calories long term and can still function. I’m a month out and eat 700-900 on a normal day. I’ve had a few days when I’m in the 400-500s and my energy suffers. I go back to the gym tomorrow and need to increase my cals by a couple hundred.

    2 Week Follow Up

I agree. It takes some mindfulness to realize when you’re really hungry vs stomach sounds or head hunger. Like I think I said I drink some water or protein and think for a bit. If I’m hungry, I grab a banana or grapefruit cup.

What did you take to the hospital?

I haven’t had mine since 2007ish because I take birth control continuously. I got mine the day before surgery. The hospital pads and mesh undies were AWFUL. Luckily it wasn’t too bad. And I was so drugged I didn’t care who knew except when a good looking surgeon lifted my gown in front of like 4 docs and 4 med students.
  11. I'm sure this topic has been discussed before but I couldn't find a thread easily. It has only happened 3 times, once with liquid oxy and twice with pills. I take them and I'm suddenly feeling a tightness and awful feeling in my chest then I run to the toilet and vomit. I thought it was stomach acid but research says it's foamy mucus. Anyone know the cause? How to stop it? Doesn't happen often but it isn't fun. Never because I eat too much food. Only meds.

    Vomiting with medications

They would but they would also prefer you be able to take the medication without pain. So whatever you need to do.

    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

So bad! I chew gum constantly and have to make sure I don’t swallow it. I think it’s because I’m so low carb I’m basically in ketosis. I believe that can cause nasty breath. Luckily I’m single!

    Feeling sad after surgery...

My mom was not supportive at all but post op she has been essential. She helps me prepare meals and the first few days post op I was so uncomfortable I slept for an hour at a time sitting up on my couch. She helped me with my dog. I’ve mostly kept it private except my family and a couple friends. It’s no ones business. Plus, it’s just a tool. We still need the strength to follow meal plans and eat right.

    4 weeks post op

A stall is normal and I think it happens to most of us. My NUTS solution to my stall was 3-4 protein shakes only (for about 100 g) every other day. I think I broke it but I’m following that till I transition to solids next week.

    2 Week Follow Up

I’m supposed to lose a pound a day! 24 lbs down in 28 days but I had a stall. Your calorie intake is too much. I transition to solids next week and will bump my intake to 1000 because I start my heavy workouts. You should probably be getting 700-900 max depending on which stage you’re in. I think a lot of our hunger is head hunger. I’m waaaaay more hungry than I thought I would be but I drink at least 15 oz of water and reevaluate whether I’m actually hungry. I usually am not. I track all my calories on my fitness pal. Allowed 6 oz for meals and 2 oz for snacks.

What did you take to the hospital?

I brought a bunch of stuff I didn’t use. I brought a sleep mask, two books, laptop, iPad, phone + chargers, Lip balm (which I needed), and I wore the same outfit home that I wore there. Number one recommendation is a sleep mask. I used my iPad but never read the books or used my laptop. Barely even used my phone. They give you grippy socks, toothbrush etc. I brought mine but didn’t have the energy to get it. And I just threw on a second gown when I walked. My incisions were no where near my bra so that was never a problem.

    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

I was in a stall that I think I broke. I assumed I’d need to eat more calories since that’s how it works when you’re working out and trying to lose weight but my dietician said try 3-4 protein shakes (for 100 g) every other day till the stall is broken. Did that yesterday and it was painful. I’m 4 weeks out. Down 23ish lbs, which isn’t that much lower than my doctor’s recommendation of 1 lb a day.

    Vomiting with medications

The general rule is you can pull them all apart and sprinkle on apple sauce but make sure you don't chew the time release balls.

    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

If it helps ease your mind, I didn't have a hiatal hernia so mine wouldn't be too tight from a repair and we experience the same thing. Don't be nervous to ask your surgeon (or his PA/NP) if you're really worried. Like 2 weeks out from surgery, on a Friday night I realized I suddenly had a stitch protruding from my incision and it hurt. I knew it wasn't an emergency but 1. It was the weekend and 2. I needed someone to ease my mind so I paged the on call surgeon. I'm glad I did because 4 weeks out it's still there.
  21. It's crazy some of you were sent home with dilaudid! I was given PCA IV dilaudid every 8 minutes for about 12 hours. I hardly used it because it make me feel too wonky with the leftover anesthesia and would set off my o2 alarms. I basically hit it before I peed, went for a walk or had a nurse help me turn sides. Went home with liquid oxy. Used about 2-3 days from time to time. Mostly to help me sleep cause it knocks me out. And once maybe 2 weeks later because my body started rejecting a suture and it's currently protruding from my incision. Very uncomfortable. Vomited up oxy once. Given liquid Tylenol but I think Tylenol sucks and the liquid tasted so disgusting I gagged. Spent one night. Really had hardly any pain because my back hurt so bad from the hospital bed. I needed the PCA just for that!

    Sleeping on your side?

Slept on my side in the hospital with pillows behind me and hugging a pillow. When I got home I actually slept sitting up in a chair for 2 days because I was so uncomfortable. After that I went right to side/stomach sleeping with a body pillow on both sides.

    Exercise

My surgery was August 23 and I plan on weighted workouts next week or the week after I pass the 6 week mark. I already have a hernia I need repaired so if it gets worse, oh well. I'll start slow. Probably at a normal gym before I restart my HIIT classes. But I've lifted my 26ish lb dog since the night I came home after surgery. She's a brat.

    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

When I overate it was under 5 oz of food (I'm allowed 6) and it was literally from one bite to the next. It wasn't pain per se but this fullness in my chest and throat like I could literally feel the food backed up. I get more pain pain if I eat too fast, this was so uncomfortable to the max and it was nearly instant.

    Vomiting with medications

It generally isn't but I think doctors make an exception for a tiny bit just for meds. But I really had absolutely no problem with capsules, just larger pills.
