  1. You don't want to eat too soon. I am pretty sure cottage cheese is considered a soft food, not a mushie (at least according to my surgeon) Let him know you are nauseated. He can give you anti nausea meds. These are usually suppositories, though I read something on the boards about something you rub on your wrists to have it soak through your skin. I would try liquid tylenol (hopefully you have some handy) until you are able to get ahold of your surgeon. I know it is miserable, and my heart goes out to you. Try to hang in there. julie

    Banded 7/3/08

Hi there, jusy wondering where you are from?? I live in Aurora, was banded 6/26 julie
  3. I am a little over 5 weeks post op. I am waiting for my first fill. Yesterday I had a personal pan pizza from pizza hut (I know...really bad) anyway, I took super small baby bites and chewed, chewed, chewed. Today I am having a small amount of pain in my band area. Nothing major, just a step or two over discomfort. I first noticed it drinking my Protein drink today. Could I have damaged my band?? I am so concerned about this. I was self pay and can not afford to have another surgery on it. Any input or suggestions??
  4. I have been on coumadin 4+ years (after a pulmonary embolism while 8 weeks pregnant) I am not having any problems with my coumadin post surgery. I doubt that is the issue (though, of course, I am NOT a doctor) talk to your doctor, see what he/she says. Please don't stop taking it on your own!!!

    I'm so MAD @ MYSELF

Did your doctor say only 2 ounces per meal?? I am not advocating going against doctors orders, beleive me. But my doctor said "eat til your satisfied" JMHO but 2 ounces seems very little to eat with no restriction.

    am I slipping??

Just what I was thinking, well said Susan. I was following my docs orders, just concerned the solid I ate at 5 weeks was a bit too solid. I have been soooo compliant (which was difficult being in the hospital for a week, but my surgeon and I discussed that issue...I did best I could) I had to eat pureed pasta and scrambled eggs at 3-4 weeks, just because that all there was) I fully intend on being a success story, and will do everything by the books from now on.

Thanks, I feel a bit better about the whole thing. We had surgery the same day!!!

    am I slipping??

Mindy, Thank you so much for your advice. You are so right.... pizza was a bit too aggressive. Actually the mild pain is gone. Now all I feel is a sort of gas pain..not so much band pain. I have learned a very, very, and hopefully not too expensive lesson. I am seing my doc on Monday, so I will tell him what I have done ;(( julie

    am I slipping??

Actualy my doctor said to add "real" food at 5 weeks. I realize pizza is a bit too "real"... and I regret it more than you can know. I would NEVER have eaten it on liquid/mushies/soft. I have been soooo good about following the rules. I am really truly afraid. I had no pain yesterday. It all started today, and again, it is very mild. I am sticking to liquids/protein drinks today.
  11. The fact is blood clots are always a possibility after surgery, and inactivity doesn't help. If the pain goes on, call a doctor. If you become short of breath... call 911. julie
  12. Please call your doctor (or go to the ER) It is probably nothing...but much better to err on the side of caution. Please let us know how you are doing. julie
  13. Debski, I am sooo sorry you are in this pain. It will get better, believe me. I had the same feelings the first couple of days (I am 5 weeks post op today) I went through the "what have I done to myself" thing on a hourly basis. Do I feel wonderful now?? Not completely (pretty much based on the hernia repair I had done at the same time) But I feel so much better. As for the pain you have that goes upwards...I know how bad that can be. I still have slight pain in that area... but I promise...it too shall pass. My surgeon told me that is the band causing that pain. I was so afraid I was rejecting the band or something. I was so glad when the pain got better  It will for you too. Please feel free to PM me if you need to chat. julie
  14. I have been feeling really bad due to my hernia repair trauma (a long story for another time). I was supposed to have my first fill last week, but I was in the hospital. Anyway, I set up another appointment for yesterday. My DH and I had quite a bit of running around to do, I was tired, I have this big vacuum pump attached to me and the strap around my neck...so I was having back and neck pain from that...plus it was 95 freakin degrees out. I got to the doctors about 5 minutes early...just as they were calling my cell phone to let me know the doc was still in surgery. It would be a hour, minnimum. I was very unhappy, to say the least . I had the girl call the doc in the OR to find out if he was going to give me a fill when he saw me. He told her he didn't know... he would have to see me first. I was quite annoyed by this. I told her it was a long drive, and I wasn't going to come in "just to be seen" I told her I had seen enough doctors after a second surgery and a week in the hospital, and that when I come in on Monday (my rescheduled appt) I was going to be quite irate if I did not get a fill. I am still so ticked...
  15. Even though I was able to have protein shakes right away, I was constantly hungry. So...yes, in my opinion it is normal.
  16. Kizzie, I am so sorry for all your problems. I sent you a PM. Please keep in touch. julie
  17. I am so sorry this happened to you. Too bad we can't charge doctors for wasting our time like that. My 2 cents?? Go ahead and get the fill. Why should you have to wait even longer???. Anyone doing fills in the office should be just as qualified as your original surgeon. JMHO julie

    Colorado Anyone

Thank you very much for the kind words. I am happy to say I am feeling a bit better. I am actually going to take my "new little friend" (my pump) and head up to the grocery store tomorrow. I am on soft food and there is little in the house that qualifies )

Sarah, I am so sorry you are having these issues. Just to let you know I was banded June 26 and have been hungry every day since then. I am kind of a strange case though, I had hernia surgery that went really really wrong at the same time. I just came out of a week in the hospital due to a massive abdominal infection. None of this is band related. I can trully say the only time I have not been hungry was when I was in the hospital. I went with Dr Mel, and will be looking for support groups too. Would love t have a support group buddy

    I'm miserable

Are you the one who bought your Protein Drink at Wal-Mart??? He told me of one of his patients who did and broke out in a rash head to toe ;O Even though he can be a bit evasive on answers, I am going to miss him when he is gone ;( I really liked the idea of a surgeon who keeps on you, and follows up. julie

So, I just got back from the hospital: A Lesson

Oh {{{ 80s chick }}} I am so sorry you have been through this. O guess you just have to chalk it to the learning curve and not do it again.
  24. That was wrong of the doctor, not warning you, since it is always a possibility with any lapband surgery. You should have been informed.
  25. PBPunisher, I am sorry you woke up to that nasty suprise  I was so concerned they would get in and have liver problems...I tried to get my doctor to promise to open me up if needed... he would not commit to it I was sooo glad evrything went well with the lapband portion of my surgery. I guess (in my opinion, at least) waking up with an open incision is better than waking up without being banded.
