Pain after surgery, should I call about meds?
PhillyEagles posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm one week post op and I'm having a lot of pain from my catheter and I'm in a bunch of pain when I lay down to sleep but throughout the day it isn't so bad, both on my back or either side I lay on. The doctors sent me home with a bottle of liquid pain meds but I only have one serving left and just wanted to know if you think they would give me any more or would they look at me like I'm trying to get extra pain meds? If like 9/10 people are off pain meds a week out i won't even call them. Just wanted to see what everyone's experiences were post op so early on. -
Pain after surgery, should I call about meds?

I decided not to. I'm feeling better, not 100% but still a lot better. I really needed it I think but it's too late now lol thanks for the replies -
7:30am EST it's showtime. Dropped 20lbs during this hellish liquid diet and I'm sitting at 298 right now. I wanna get down to 220 or lower which sounds right since I'm 6'3! To everyone that's gone before me I hope you all show me the right path because I plan on helping those who come after me. Pretty pumped up right now just wanted to post so I can update you all in the following days! Wish me luck.

Thanks a lot! Yeah things are going fine, still on my liquid diet until Thursday but I been slowly heading back to the gym getting cardio in, haven't ran yet because I'm scared what the bouncing will do for my incisions. I just want to start lifting weights already lol I went from 317 when I started liquid diet and today I am 287.6 but I've been here for about 4-5 days now so I think I'm experiencing my first mini stall. Makes sense right? 2 weeks pre op and 1 week post op = 3 week dreaded stall right? -
Hey another football lover! Welcome to the page. Go Eagles.

Damn it took them long enough huh lol. I bet you're glad you stuck to your liquid diet now lol. I'm really excited for you. It's gonna go great and you are gonna be on your way!

Only a few days post op question about water
PhillyEagles posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on 7/6/17 and after surgery and my leak test I was finally allowed to sip water. It was taking me about 45 min to even sip 1oz of fluid. Now here I am a few days later and I find myself able to sip around 5oz of water in an hour and still be thirsty. I am in no way chugging but I just drink it pretty considtantly and I feel fine. I'm really lacking in my protein just because it seems to make me Thirstiest so I only get in maybe 3oz of it a day1. Tomorrow I'm going to be alternating 2oz of water and 1oz protein. I guess my question is should I be drinking so much liquid this early out? I see some people a few weeks out who aren't drinking that much and it makes me feel like I can stretch myself out. I'm following everything my surgeon says to a T and my weight loss is going good but I'm just Worried about shooting myself in the foot early on. Highest Weight : 355lbs Pre op Weight: 317lbs Surgery Weight: 299lbs Current Weight: 292lbs Goal Weight: 220lbs -
Decided to do it, what can I do first?
PhillyEagles replied to toby585's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome man and good on you for taking the first step! Who's your insurance through? Just asking because different companies require different things before you are eligible for surgery like a 6 month supervised diet, nutritionist visits, psychologist visits etc. I'm only a week out from surgery and I can tell you that it's worth it man. My highest when I started was 355 and today I weighed in at 288. This process is long and tedious but every step is worth it man. Keep in touch! -

Thanks to both of you. I really was stressing it. I think it's so strange how different people end up on different ends of the spectrum of certain things. I'm glad I'm able to drink enough water and don't have to worry about dehydration! -
Good luck! Let us know how you're feeling once you are up for it!

I find that is the toughest part, being around others who are able to eat what they like. My wife is the most conscious person when it comes to this but I always tell her it's fine. I find that it is tough to be around all of the good smelling foods that I used to love but I like the fact that I can be around it and not give into my cravings. It has gotten pretty rough a few times and I went into the other room while the food was eaten but only a few times. I'm only on day 4 post op and I feel that it's easier than when I was on my 2 week pre op because now I physically cannot consume it if that makes sense lol

Good on you getting the stuff early. It will make things much less stressful. I got released from the hospital today and am doing better, they gave me liquid pain meds which are helping a lot when I need it. I'm suprised at my weight loss already. Started the liquid diet at 317 and today I'm 294 with no appetite thank god lol -

What's up gents. 2 days post op and still in the hospital. I was doing great right after surgery and up until a few hours ag. I've been holding down water and making laps and everything I need to do. I took a 90 minute nap and that has all changed. I have severe pain in my neck and my shoulders and my back, my nurse is telling me that it's the gas pain but I feel like I've already been dealing with the gas pain in my shoulders and that this is directly in my muscles. I'm inclined to believe my boss but i feel like straight crap. My catheter is out and I'm off of IV's because i can sip water well and have been able to pee but i can't help but feel like something is wrong for me to be in pain like this. I've read everyone's posts before on the subject but it's totally different when you are going through it yourself. Any comments at all are greatly appreciated.

Thanks I appreciate it. It's just weird how fast it came Into my muscles and not in my chest cavity where the actual gas was/is you know? -

Should have said ladies and gents, my apologies all. -
Hey idk where you live but if you have a Pho shop near you i HIGHLY suggest trying some of the broth. It's so much better than beef/chicken/veggie broth. It got me through these last 2 weeks. My doctor said it was an awesome idea today when I went in for surgery! Good luck! Sugar free Jello helped a lot too. And Sugar free popcicles

Appreciate it all! Glad to see the support. Picked up my vitamins tonight. Flinstones, B12, and ordered some calcium citrate meltables from amazon. I'm supposed to get Vitamin D but I could only find like D3 and other D's but no straight Vitamin D. Other than that I should be good right guys? -

Blood and ECG should be fairly simple. Should be smooth sailing for you man. I'll let you know how I'm feeling tomorrow hopefully. The hospital I'm going to doesn't have any reception so maybe a day later. -
