I had a co-worker look over my shoulder while I was browsing ebay during my break. I was looking at bohemiam style skirts. She asked what size they went up to. I said 18. She says "You're delusional if you think that surgery will make you get down to a size 18." I was a 24/26 when she said that... So 18 is that far off? Obviously she doesn't know how this surgery works. 4 weeks post-op, now in a 20/22. I've had friends tell me that when I get into that 18, I need to remove the tag and without a word, place it into my co-workers hand and walk away.

Im new here 🙋🏻I just got my surgery date this week! July 31, 2017😀 Excited and anxious all at the same time.
I am requesting 6 weeks off of work, will see if I get that approved surgeon says 2-6 weeks. I am hoping to take as much time as I can as my job restrictions will make it difficult to eat/drink as needed.

Well they are getting my discharge papers ready now, so looks like I will be going home in the next hour or so! Surgery went well and I have exceeded my liquid requirements. Still have some pain and swelling ( gas) in my stomach but that is to be expected ! I'm ready to get started on my weight loss journey[emoji3]

I had my first fast food today since post-op. I ordered the pico-guac grilled chicken sandwich at McDonald's in the Air and Space Museum. I didn't eat the bun and was only able to eat half. I think I made a healthy choice. I rarely eat fast food so I wasn't at all familiar with what to order. I am finding that it is pretty easy to find things to order no matter where we eat.
We are doing some serious walking And it is super hot and humid so hydration has been my main focus. We ended up getting a Uber back to our hotel because it was just so oppressively humid this afternoon. I am hoping to get up early and do my morning run on the mall by the capital building and the monument.

I think support from the other people going through this is important, and I want everyone to be able to connect with the people who might be going through this at the same time if you want. So this isn't meant to be more than informative in case you want to message or follow people having surgery in July. If I've made any mistakes I apologize, just message me and I can edit the list There are certainly noticeably busy days! If you'd like to be added msg me, again sorry if I got an incorrect date, I just wanted to try and help because there are a lot of threads about July, and it's fast approaching. Good luck and speedy recovery everyone

Yes! I cooked the ground chicken in chicken broth, adding broth a little at a time as it cooked to keep it soft. After it was cooked, I puréed it and pre-measured, so all I have to do is grab a chicken and a veg. I have to say, I wasn't looking forward to pureed meats, but the chicken is delicious when mixed. I have also been mixing the zucchini with a combo of ricotta and cottage cheese as my Protein, heating it up, and that's really good too.

    I was sleeved yesterday (6/6/17) at 0930.
Waking up from the anesthesia was rough, and I had so much pain in my shoulders (I guess it's from the gas?). It was a long day, no fluids by mouth, and trying to walk.
Today was better. Had my leak test this morning, and results were perfect, so started sipping Water and walking! I felt like a different person! Was allowed chicken broth for lunch, and Jello. Oh my goodness, jello has never tasted so good
Minimal pain meds at this time, and looking forward to going home tomorrow!

qy22 reacted to Iwanttofitinmyweddingdress in Just got sleeved, though gas pain sucks ass.
I woke up from surgery not regretting a thing (Think because I was given pain meds when I was asleep on the way to recovery room) I was there for 3 hours total even when I was okay. I had to pee, but I wanted to wait until I had gotten my room, because I was not used to the idea of a bed pan. I found out the incision near my belly button started bleeding a bit even after being glued. But it got patched, which is good. Overall, I was happy for a short time until I got into my room. I got pretty emotional and started crying when my fiancé wouldn't answer his phone, I called 20 times because I wanted him here with me. He ended up coming two hours later.
Just tonight, I walked 5 times, the two times I got up to walk, I walked 2 laps, and then just one an hour later because gas pain was getting pretty bad (I had not passed gas all today.) the pain was a 7, so I was just given pain meds to help me sleep. So far the pressure of the gas is still there, but the pain is a 2-3.
The nurses are so nice. My highest weight was 360, today my surgery weight is 337. My goal is 160, and my height is 5'7 1/2.
Overall, today was good. I was not nervous, I was calm. I woke up high and yelling "Hey you!" To a nurse and telling her how pretty she is.
    Here I am.
I just wanted to tell my experience from yesterday. I get discharged this late morning.

So far I've been getting 40oz Water in, I know it's not the total I need but I'm doing the best I can. Also I've been doing 3-4 10 minute walks around me neighborhood so I'm getting the walking in. Protein however, still a struggle.

I'm bearing my soul and body here. I couldn't be more proud of how my body has changed.
I've lost exactly 70 pounds since my surgery. Today marks exactly 24 weeks ( 6 months ) since my VSG surgery.
There's good, bad and ugly about VSG. A lot of days, I cried and wondered why in the hell I had this surgery, and what in the hell ive done to myself. Throughout this process, I haven't been able to REALLY see the changes. In my mind, I always see a 268 pound fat girl. Granted, I have seen the changes, seen the smaller clothes sizes, but still struggled with my self image in my head. But today that all changed....
I realized today as I was getting dressed that I had on the same exact underwear as the day I took my pre-surgery pictures. Then I realized that today marked 6 months since surgery. So, i decided to take pictures.
I haven't taken pictures in this process because of the absolute shame and disgust I feel towards myself. Shame and disgust are understatement words for how I feel about myself. Until today...
Today, I feel proud. For the first time, I can honestly say that I don't see "that fat girl" in the mirror anymore. It may not be pretty, it will never be perfect, but it's mine, and today I'm owning it, and FINALLY for once in my LIFE, I'm feeling proud.
It's NOT an easy decision to post these photos of me in my underwear. I feel absolutely vulnerable and exposed. Please be kind. It took all the courage I could muster to do this. The current pictures are not the best quality but the best I could take of myself at the moment.
All you new VSG-ers, stay the course and have faith. If you have body image issues as I do, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and you are not alone in the dark!
Much love from me to you all! ️️️

i'm sorry you are feeling like this. my surgery is scheduled for Thursday. a few years ago i started the process but was unable to pay the out of pocket costs. this last round started in Nov. i had my consult and immediately did my endoscopy at the end of the month.
my first hurdle was when i met with the psych. i am Bipolar so his concern was my last hospitalization. however he had me come back a month later to see him and the dietitian for the second time. i was medically cleared by that visit. he saw that i was stable and that i made progress with diet and exercise. by the end of February i was told my date would be 3/1. then i found out they were still waiting for my secondary insurance approval. sigh, right?
i received my approval two weeks ago. between Feb. and then i felt like it would never happen. i got to the point where 'this was it'. like i had to accept it. but i pushed through. i continued to increase my Protein & cut down on carbs and sugar.
if you ask my mom she will say that i am the most impatient person in the world. everyday i felt like i did something wrong (afterall, why was insurance taking forever?)
but here i am. day 4 of my pre-op diet. this time tomorrow i will find out when i have to be the hospital Thursday. i don't always feel good but reading so many inspiring stories really makes me feel like i can do this. i have no idea how i will feel after i wake up from anesthesia. but let me tell you. i was laying out at the beach this last Saturday and i realized 'by this time next year that i will have that bikini body'! i don't expect to be a size 2 or to lose 100 lbs. in three months. but i know if keep working hard i can make my goal.
like my bf said, keep your eyes on your goals!

Ok so I'm doing pretty good, I've already walked once with a nurse and 3 times by myself, 3 laps. I didn't get the horrid gas pains that I was preparing myself for. Unless somehow they appear tomorrow which wouldn't make sense. Little sore on top of my stomach but overall other than being REALLY thirsty I don't feel too bad at all
    Knock on wood!
Getting up out of my chair and down into it are getting less and less painful . So far the most pain I had was when they first had me get out of bed . I'm nervous about getting back into it ugh . But so far, so good! I feel so bad for the lady next door , she's miserable and barely walking with a walker. I'm hoping we both wake up tomorrow a little better . I get my swallow test I think sometime between 730 and 930, then some Water finally! I'll update tomorrow !
