Just starting my journey
baribetty replied to marciamae3474's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Start developing healthy coping mechanisms now. Life stress isn’t going to go away after surgery. I am 6 days out from VSG surgery and have moments where I feel really sad that I can’t eat something, or wonder, will I feel hungry forever? That sounds like torture to me! It’s an emotional rollercoaster, on top of physical surgery, recovery and changes. I would start now, get outside, try new hobbies, find fulfillment in things other than food. Also, therapy. When did all the office worker go back to work?
baribetty replied to t_dulls's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I work from home and took 3 days and the weekend off of work. If I worked in an office today - 6 days after surgery- may have been an ok day to go back, but honestly, I’d say take more time if you can... I feel ok, but still have soreness, but I’m also tired. Hi CleaClo! CONGRATS! A lot of people steer clear from pain meds.... I didn’t! I took full advantage of my options and haven’t had any negative repercussions (assuming there are no reasons to steer clear like dependency issues, obviously do the most loving thing for yourself...) Don’t be afraid to let the nurses take care of you. Let us know how you are doing when you can. HW 289 SW 262 VSG 5/2/18 Kaiser, Ontario - Dr. Chin

I had thoughts just like this. For me, I realized they centered around things I couldn’t control. You have to surrender yourself to this process and trust the professionals. I think once you are there and see the team of people who will work on you and be there for you, you may feel more comfort. One nurse laid her hands down my legs and across my stomach as I was falling asleep, almost laying on me, telling me “you are ok, you are safe, we are taking good care of you”. The thought of it makes me want to cry, it was so sweet, and she didn’t have to do that for me, but she did. These people know what you need, trust the process. You will be ok. I was on liquids for only a day before surgery... call your Doctor so you feel confident. I don’t blame you for not remembering, my pre op appt was a blur of info afterward. HW 289 SW 262 VSG 5/2/18 Kaiser, Ontario - Dr. Chin

I WAS SLEEVED TODAY!
baribetty replied to baribetty's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cool! I am happy to help answer any questions you have I was so curious about SO many things along the way and wished I could talk to someone in the same kaiser region as me. My first class was in November, it ended in feb, but because of the holidays, we had a couple extra weeks thrown in there. I lost about 26 pounds during Options classes and really tried to take advantage of any cancellations to get in with the psych ASAP. I met with Dr chin on 4/20 and was scheduled for my VSG 5/2. The end definitely progressed faster than expected. At the pre-op Dr chin was pretty cold, I was taken aback by it actually and didn’t feel any warm and fuzzies for him. Surgery day was a totally different story. He was cherry, smiley, and totally in his element. He was great pre op, and post op, and visited me twice. He was also great about updating my BF after surgery. I would totally recommend him. he’s a surgeon, he’s not going to give you a warm hug (which might be nice considering it’s so scary beforehand [emoji23]) but I have no regrets going with him! Message me if you want! I’m happy to chime in about my experience along your journey! HW 289 SW 262 VSG 5/2/18 Kaiser, Ontario - Dr. Chin -

May 23rd surgery date. Waking up?
baribetty replied to Sunshineprincess's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had this same question! I am five days out, I remember falling asleep, and waking up with a nurse sitting with me. He asked me about my pain level, said we would get that under control (don’t remember being in pain at that point though) and then they would call my boyfriend back. During those minutes my bf was meeting with my surgeon and then he walked around the corner and I saw him for the first time. I was all smiles and totally fine. They wheeled me to my room and I took advantage of the morphine while in the hospital (no regrets about that btw...) the pain settled in once I got home and I have had some WTF have I done moments, and been emotional, but I’m really starting to feel like myself again, I’m off pain meds (2 days now) and I’m only feeling pain in my lower left incision near my belly button, which seems very common. They gave my a stomach binder that helps support my torso when I need it and minimizes the pain. Message me if you want, I’m here for you! I’ve been right where you are. Hi Jules! I actually wasn’t assigned a liquid pre-op diet! I was only supposed to do liquid the day before, and nothing at all after midnight, but that’s just to prepare for surgery. I did lose 26 pounds before surgery but my surgeon never mentioned that it would be any different if I hadn’t. I think it’s all about the liver and easy access to the stomach. The most pain I experience is from the incision just next to my belly button. It feels strained a lot, especially when I use my stomach muscles to sit up or move. I’m wondering if it is where he pulled my stomach out, I’ll ask at my post op appt on the 12th. HW 289 SW 262 VSG 5/2/18 Kaiser, Ontario - Dr. Chin
